Destiny 3 Is Apparently In 'Extremely Early Development', Should Still Launch On Xbox

They should have started development of this years before the final shape launched. Trying to keep d2 alive with frivolous extra content after the ending of the light and dark saga was a mistake. The majority of people have dropped the game and the barrier to entry for new players is insanely high. The extra content that launched over the past year and half has been at best filler and at worst terrible.

Destiny needs a reset and d3. Final shape should have launched and then destiny should have taken a couple of years off before d3 (which should have been in development for 5-6 years).

The problem with Destiny is, as Mighty points out, they vault content. Bungie are world class when it comes to gunplay and world design, but anything outside of that, frankly, they suck at. They often need guidance from their community of fans to shape things up the way they should have been shaped from the get-go.

The next problem is the storytelling and expansions. They don't have a great track record there neither. To me, I felt like Destiny 2 closed the series off quite well. Destiny 3 at this point feels unnecessary, and I'm far convinced that Bungie has what it takes to learn from their mistakes. This just feels like clutching at straws to stay relevant.

Destiny 2 was a major let down for me.
fantastic gunplay and setting, still others aspects were questionable.
also some inconsistencies in the whole experience.

If Destiny 3 is real, comes out and is free-to-play, I'll check it out; I've played enough D1 and D2 (a combined 2,500+ hours) and have enough good memories that I feel like I owe Bungie that much.

But I can't help but agree with the above comments. Bungie has dropped the ball so many times in oh so many different ways, especially with D2, that I'm pretty sure the damage to the brand at this point is not only done but also irreparable, and I'm doubtful that a D3 flavoured reset would result in some kind of miraculous comeback.

To me, Bungie died when they left Microsoft. They were the ultimate Halo studio. Both handled this wrong. MS should've gave them more creative freedom (ironically they do that with their studios now), and Bungie should've realized that they were most in their development comfort zone as a Halo developer.

I have enjoyed Destiny, when I play it, but I feel like it should be a Halo game with Master Chief. Just swap all the character models with Halo character models! LOL. I would totally play any Destiny game as a Halo game.

I would also expect that MS legals made sure that Bungie would in perpetuity ship their games on XB as long as MS has XB around on day one. I find it hard to believe they would've allowed Bungie to leave without still supporting their platform.

Well, it's Sony we are talking about here 😅 (and far from being a given), especially if they see the game as a strong asset to push PS6 adoption.

I loved the original Destiny and it was my most played game last generation but I never really got on with Destiny 2, not helped by them spoiling the Titan's gameplay.

At this point I'd rather them make new IP, not everything has to go on forever as is seemingly the trend these days

So many great memories with Destiny. I may go back for Renegades, it looks pretty neat but sadly everybody I played with is gone so it won’t be the same

It's only NOW in early development? I assume this was due to moving resources to Marathon? It feels like Destiny 2 is almost as old as the Xbox One generation.

You know I loved destiny 1 but somehow I bought that game 4 times and then they tried doing that again with destiny 2, and I said nope. Enjoyed whatever I had played but never got to see all of it. Anyways D3 has to be something absolutely special for me to get invested again.

Wonder if Destiny will keep the same business model of, incredibly overpriced DLC, that severely lacks in content.

Then pulls it from server where people can no longer play the DLC they paid for.

Bungie wanted to create a Halo MMO (early screenshots can be found online) but Microsoft said not going to happen. So bungie threw a fit and left.

Playing destiny, at least I could tell and feel, is straight up reskin of that Halo MMO. Lot gunplay and weapons, enemies and their movement and attacks. Felt just like big rehash.

Probably bungie just wanted to not waste the production cost and changed the world and lore to something new. Called it destiny. Rest is history (in how to ripoff your fanbase and nickle and dime them).

@Sol4ris with these pc hybrids on the horizon I don’t think PS6 will need much of a push for adoption.

Love this news. I spent so much time with Destiny over the years but don't want to go near it anymore.

Fingers crossed for what they should have done with Destiny 2 - a complete story reset. After the problems they had with the D1 story, it was a castle built on sand. It's now so convoluted and pieced together that I was playing in spite of the story, not because of it.

Just going in there now and trying to navigate quests and progress is a nightmare.

The biggest thing for me will be a power reset, which I'm sure will be on the cards. I play these games to start at 0 and watch numbers go up. I don't want to start at 1865 or whatever BS Destiny 2 starts you at now.

I hope you’re right and Sony won’t (see) the need for a PS6 push adoption. As someone who will go with the PC hybrids option, it would suit me just fine.

They need to do one of two things here: either go right back to their original influence and base it around the innate simplicity of Phantasy Star Online or finally make the first-person Diablo 3 they’ve always threatened to build.

In the first instance it needs to be all about the gear. Levelling should be old fashioned xp to stat increases that are just there to gate off the better items. The fun of the game becomes fire teaming a dungeon or just the organic PVE mode. No skill tree nonsense or anything like that. Items are fixed-stat with none of this infusion crap. A better gun is a better gun.

In the second instance it becomes all about the character. There should be dozens of different skills to level up and unlock each one mappable to a certain button. The debate then turns from gear to character builds. Gear merely buffs the stats of the character. They should in this case add more classes into the game to vary the gameplay.

In either case for the love of Master Chief can we please get them to sign a contract sticking them to one damned currency! I don’t want to earn ‘thing X’ for character X and ‘thing Y’ for character Y. One again Diablo 3 for me streamlines this so well.

I've never played destiny 2 but the first destiny was awfully dull Grind fest!
I only enjoyed those big co op boss battles I forgot what they were called but apart from that the game had nothing even pvp was bad!
Microsoft should just bite the bullet and pay for Bungie to make the next halo it's going to be a multiplatform game why not?
Then 343 games in the series are getting worse as they go alone infinite was a garbage game the only halo I didn't want to finish off

Agree completely and I did see the MMO screenshots.

To me, mistakes were made on both sides. MS should've let them make an MMO, but I think Bungie was too quick too jump away as well. Kind of like the kid that takes the ball away and won't play.
