This Xbox Game Studios Adventure Deserved More Nominations At The Game Awards 2025

Earlier this week, The Game Awards host Geoff Keighley unveiled all of the nominations for this year's show; which goes ahead on Thursday, December 11th. A variety of Xbox first-party titles were nominated for numerous awards here - including DOOM: The Dark Ages, Indiana Jones, The Outer Worlds 2 and more. However, there's one Xbox Game Studios title we think has been snubbed a little bit in 2025, even if it has been nominated in some of the more niche categories.

That title is South of Midnight from Compulsion Games. This deep-south inspired, action-adventure game came out of Xbox Game Studios all the way back in April, and we absolutely loved it. Despite some minor gripes with combat, South of Midnight is a wonderfully crafted experience that features incredible art design, imaginative monsters, an engrossing story and dare we say it, the sort of soundtrack that deserves an award nomination!

And that's where we feel a bit miffed, really. Look, we get it - there are so many games coming out these days and all of the nominations are worthy contenders too, but how South of Midnight didn't get nominated for something like Best Score, Best Audio Design or Best Art Direction is baffling! (For reference, the two awards that South of Midnight is nominated for are Games for Impact and Innovation in Accessibility.)

Anyway, I'm sure that I'll be championing this one when it comes to us discussing our own Pure Xbox GOTY shouts soon (unless anything massively surprises us in the next month or so), but yeah, South of Midnight has been a real highlight this year, especially from Xbox Game Studios. In the end, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Death Stranding 2, Donkey Kong Bananza, Hades 2, Hollow Knight: Silksong and Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 made TGA's main Game of the Year list.

Do you think South of Midnight deserved more? If not, what game do you think unfairly missed out? Talk to us about TGA 2025 down below.
