Talking Point: How Do You Feel About Xbox Game Pass In 2026?

It's been a good few months now since Microsoft overhauled its Xbox Game Pass service, with Premium taking hold as the platform's mid-tier option whilst Ultimate got a bunch of new perks late last year, along with a hefty price bump. So, as we head into 2026, how do you feel about the subscription service and its place in the Xbox ecosystem?

For almost a decade now, Xbox Game Pass has felt like the way to interact with the Xbox library, especially for core players like us who want to experience as many first-party games as possible - along with some notable third-party titles at launch as well. However, with Ultimate now costing $30 a month, the value proposition is certainly coming into question here in 2026, and buying games outright may now be more viable for some.

On a personal note, I've spent some time over the holiday break thinking about how I interact with Xbox and its games these days, and I feel that, working here at PX aside, I'd be thinking about moving back to purchasing what I definitely want to play on the platform. Don't get me wrong, pound-for-pound Game Pass Ultimate is still pretty good value considering what you get in it, the deals you can find on it and the pure cost of games these days — but $30 a month is a lot, and I'm personally trying to be more considerate with what I play here as we head into the new year.

Having said all that, XGP Premium feels quite a good option nowadays, and is much cheaper than Ultimate at $15 a month. Sure, you lose the day one launches and some of the other benefits, but Xbox's first-party games (COD aside) will now enter the library within a year - so with a little patience, you're still getting the bulk of what Microsoft's studios have to offer. The counterpoint to that would be that buying the games outright will cost less 12 months later too, but Premium's price point feels much easier to digest overall.

Anyway, we want to know your general thoughts on Xbox Game Pass here in 2026. Is it still your preferred way to interact with the Xbox platform? If so, which tier are you using these days? Alternatively, have you gone back to buying your Xbox games in the wake of recent changes and price hikes?
