Talking Point: What Are Your New Year's Resolutions For Gaming In 2026?

As a new year rolls around, now's the time to start setting some New Year's Resolutions — goals that we strive to achieve (but often struggle to keep up) over the next 12 months. And of course, we can have those for gaming as well!

There are plenty of common ones, like trying to complete a certain number of games in a year, or trying to get a certain amount of achievements in a year — perhaps it's playing more on a certain system than another, or striving to buy more physical games rather than just settling for digital downloads. Maybe it's all just about tackling the backlog!

We recently asked about games you managed to finish in 2025 — maybe you want to add to that in 2026?

I personally have a couple of major New Year's Resolutions for gaming this year. The first is to try and spend more time on handhelds rather than scrolling on my phone during downtime. It doesn't matter whether it's the ROG Xbox Ally, a Nintendo 3DS, an Evercade Super Pocket, a PlayStation Portable... I just think it's a better use of my time than constantly flicking away on my Samsung Galaxy for no real reason.

The other is to try and be more mindful and immersed when playing games in 2026. Gaming is such an overwhelming hobby these days when you've got thousands of titles to choose from, and sometimes it's hard to get immersed in something when you know there's so much else you could also be doing. It's why I'll never buy one of those Anbernic handhelds — they seem great, but I don't need 10k games at my fingertips or I'll be too overwhelmed to play anything!

Anyway, those are my resolutions, but what about you? Come and tell us down in the comments section below!
