Halo Studios Admits That The Series Needs A Bigger Playerbase As PS5 Community Awaits

Halo: Campaign Evolved is set for a PS5 launch later this year, as the team at Halo Studios plots its first-ever multiplatform release. It's a big shift for the Halo series, but ultimately, it sounds like one the famous Xbox IP needs to make for it to thrive in the future.

In a new interview with Gamesradar, Halo Studios' Damon Conn talked about expanding the community on PS5, and how the team "wants to bring players back together" by not only launching Combat Evolved on the platform, but by taking the Halo series multiplatform at large.

"We hope to bring along the series veterans who have been with us for the past 25 years and have them play with an entirely new generation, [...] There are people who have never been exposed to Halo. Maybe they've always been on Sony products, switched consoles at a certain point, or just missed it at the time. We want to bring players back together.

Halo is best played when we have a large, healthy community, [...] We see this as a way to grow, expand, and reconnect the Halo community. We want to honor the Halo legacy on PlayStation, and we're paving the way to expand our Halo universe – that's how we see it. And it's not a small thing. We don't and we won't take it lightly. We definitely feel the weight of it."

Halo has long been talked about as the final hurdle when it comes to Xbox games going multiplatform; it's always been seen as the brand's biggest IP and one that would mark a significant shift from Microsoft - if and when it moved over. Campaign Evolved indeed marks this major step, and it sounds as though future Halo projects will be built with PS5 in mind as well.

Of course, talk about an expanded community being essential to Halo will matter more when PvP multiplayer is a part of the experience. Campaign Evolved will have online co-op but no form of PvP play, and we can probably expect Halo 7 (or whatever it ends up being called) to bring massive cross-console multiplayer to the series for the very first time.
