I would think why bother with an elite 3 controller until the new Xbox console thing.
But let’s not forget Xbox thinking.
Your TV, PC etc are Xbox’s so maybe thinking that way a new modern elite 3 controller does make sense as we are not tying things to consoles anymore in the traditional way.

So this controller would be used of course for the series consoles but also everything else that is an Xbox, but of course not the PS5 or switch 2.

If they wait too long for their pc console then steam machine will be out and following wave of 3rd party pc consoles might be opting for steamOS over windows.

They should at least partner with some 3rd party devices if we aren't going to get their next gen device any time soon.

Allready bought a game PC for WoW and I can play Diablo 4 with controller on it as well. My XSX will be good enough for CoD and BF the next years. And with the prices of memory, I guess it will be at least 18 months away.

Hmmmm I was planning on buying a Steam Machine this year, I passed on the Ally X last year because I had just bought the Switch 2. Unless the new Xbox console gets announced for this year it will probably be just the Steam Machine for me. Especially if the Half Life 3 rumors are actually true this time lol

@themightyant If I remember correctly, this is the same thing they did with the Elite 2 and the Xbox Series: they released the controller first and then the console later.

It will be interesting to see what new features this Elite 3 will bring, as it will surely give us clues about what new features the new console might have. For now, what seems to be an open secret is that new controllers will have Wi-Fi to connect directly to the internet.

Yeah given the big push to cloud on 2025 and X cloud coming out of beta a WiFi connected controller makes total sense. Bundle it with a few TVs and fire sticks to get people interested in game pass.

Regarding the controllers—is that it? Is that the only advancement? There is no word in any human language to accurately describe how little I care about anything cloud related. I was hoping future improvements to a first party Xbox controller might include something more game changing like Hall effect sticks, adaptive triggers, haptic feedback or an included internal rechargeable battery.

@themightyant True, although I think the share button is one of the least interesting additions to controllers in their history, I can't count the number of times a guest has accidentally pressed that button in the middle of a game xD

I never missed it on the Elite 2, and honestly, if it were up to me, I think the new controllers should remove that button.

My prediction is that MS will wait until the Steam console launches then depending on the price of the Steam console and the sales they will then launch the Xbox Series 2 after that.

Yep I know that.
But in some peoples minds compared to dual sense 5 the current Xbox controller is out of touch with certain features.
Having used both a lot, to hold and trigger wise I prefer the xbox controller elite 2.
But feature wise and if used correctly the dual sense 5 does have some nice haptics and trigger tension and the built in speaker does create better gaming immersion in some cases.

I would shocked if we saw a new Xbox tote console thing in 2026.
But I suppose we have to remember we never got a sort of slim series console or a mid generation upgrade.
So you could say their hardware team have had a long time to focus on a full new console compared to Sony for example.

Ok here me out. MS bundles the controller and Forza Horizon 6 for $500. Delay the new Xbox that’s just a crappy PC for 3-5 years and get people into the client infrastructure.

Also do not port the game to PlayStation.

A controller that doesn’t hurt my hand, is wireless, isn’t so clicky, and has the better vibration tech that competitors have had for 5 years, and costs $60–that would be great, thanks.

I hope they simplify their Bluetooth protocol so we get more affordable controller options. My Internet isn't always the best so tying the controller to wifi like Google stadia did is maybe about shortsighted. Hope it can do both along with being wired for worst case scenarios. I picked up the Game sir Pro wireless and absolutely love it so doubt I'll get another Xbox branded controller anytime soon
