You won't be surprised to hear that we're always tracking the latest trends related to Xbox, and one that totally caught us by surprise over the past 24 hours was that Nintendo was "buying Xbox".
Naturally, we had to do a bit of research into this and figure out what was going on. It turns out that a Facebook page known as Nintendo Fans gained a ton of attention from this hoax yesterday, racking up over 1,000 likes, 200 comments and 100 shares on it. It ultimately led to various forms of "Nintendo buys Xbox" becoming easily the biggest Xbox trend of December 29th on Google.
Here's a look at the accompanying image they shared:

We're sure this was only meant to be a bit of fun (and we're not even sure if it originates from Nintendo Fans or someone else), but it's clearly racked up enough attention to influence Google searches over the past 24 hours.
So, just to set the record straight — this is not real! There are multiple clues in the image if you need further proof, such as the fact that Banjo-Kazooie isn't spelt correctly, and the chances of Nintendo buying Xbox are little-to-none anyway.
In fact, it's historically been more likely that Xbox would buy Nintendo! This was first attempted 25 years ago, with Nintendo reportedly "laughing their asses off" at the attempt, and then a major Xbox leak a few years ago revealed how Phil Spencer was dead serious about wanting to acquire Nintendo in 2020 (which obviously didn't happen!).
