Re: PSA: Xbox Series X Loud Or Overheating? Here's How To Open And Clean It

joeyflannel

Don't do what I did and play 7 hours straight of Crisis Core with a controller sitting DIRECTLY ON TOP OF THE VENT and the absolutely crap your pants when your console shuts off and you get the overheating message.

But this was a very useful piece. I'll save it in case just blowing it out with compressed air while still assembled stops being enough

Re: Talking Point: Do You Feel You've Had Value For Money With Your Xbox Series X|S?

joeyflannel

Hell yes. With a bullet.

Xbox Series X is the highest quality console I've ever used in my life. We've got value, power, performance, aesthetics, the GOAT controller, and so many quality-of-life features, like back compat, smart delivery and quick resume. Most of the greatest games of all-time can be played on a singular console, and usually in the best quality possible.

Do I have problems with modern Xbox? Absolutely. I wish they cared about exclusives, I wish they cared about physical games, etc. But so what if Xbox first party games are coming to other consoles? We still get them first, better, AND on Gamepass.

Yeah, I'm satisfied with this generation.

Re: 'Huge' Number Of People Cancelling DOOM Pre-Orders Over 'Botched Physical Release'

Physical collector on Xbox and Switch here; gotta be honest, I don't care. I have no illusions that any physical game I've purchased for a console after the 360/PS3/Wii generation actually guarantees me any level of "preservation." If Xbox is down, with zero internet connection at all, we probably have bigger issues that if we can play DOOM or not, because that more than likely indicates the downfall of western civilization. In the event that DID hypothetically happen, as long as the game is installed to a hard drive you can connect to your console, you can still play it with the disc. And besides, there are hundreds, if not thousands of physical games across all platforms over the last 15 years require downloading patches and updates to even launch at all. So, what difference does it make? I want the box. I want the artwork on the case. I want the spines to look nice on a shelf. I want the ability to sell my games, or loan it to a friend. That's why I still buy physical games. I'm not an archeologist here.

Re: Xbox Developer Shares Insight Into Why Physical Releases Are 'Complex'

joeyflannel

I've been collecting physical Xbox games since elementary school, but this is finally the year I threw in the towel on it. So many games getting skipped. I think Avowed is what broke me. I still play a lot on Xbox, still love the brand, always will, but if I want a game physically for the collection, it feels like investing in PlayStation copies is the smarter move long term. And let's face it, ain't no WAY the next Xbox is going to have a physical option.

Re: Talking Point: Xbox Fans, How Do You Find Time For All These Amazing 2025 Games?

joeyflannel

It's such a tough thing to balance all of these games, especially because I play on all consoles. I've kinda given up on the idea of a structured "backlog." It's too much pressure to place on a hobby that's supposed to be relaxing and enjoyable. So, I'm just playing what I want to, when I can. I'd love to play Oblivion and Expedition 33, but it just ain't happening right now. And that's okay!

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to play Mario Kart 8, and do my 142nd playthrough of Halo: Combat Evolved

Re: Xbox's Latest Shadow Drop Was A Problem For Us, Says Indie Publisher

joeyflannel

I get the frustration, but this is something that no one is at fault for. Oblivion shadow dropping was the right call. There was no pre-launch discourse of people complaining about changes, or "DEI" or any of the other nonsense that dominates gaming conversations these days. It's just unfortunate that Post Trauma was a victim here. Especially since it actually does look really good!
