The same person who revealed that Spyro the Dragon is returning has now suggested that Xbox is looking to revive Crash Bandicoot β the same character who was once the 'face' of Sony's 32-bit PlayStation.
As spotted by Comic Book.com, insider No Arms and No Legs, upon the confirmation of the new Spyro outing, posted on social media that "a new Crash Bandicoot game is scheduled too, but will not be unveiled for the moment."
Xbox owns the IP following its purchase of Activision β an acquisition which brought Toys for Bob into the Xbox family. It's not known whether that studio is handling this new Crash game, but it was responsible for the character's most recent outing, Crash Bandicoot 4: Itβs About Time.
As also noted by Comic Book.com, it could be some time before we see anything about this new Crash title β if it has even been greenlit at all. If Toys for Bob is hard at work on the new Spyro and intends to work on Crash 5 as well, it means we're unlikely to see the sequel for a good few years yet, unless another studio is handling it.
Crash Bandicoot began life on the PS1, with Naughty Dog handling the development of his first few adventures. Sony quickly positioned the character as the PS1 mascot to counter Sonic and Mario, even including him in an advertising campaign that poked fun at Nintendo's famous plumber.
Last year, developer Beenox caused a fuss by uploading and then removing a new banner on social media featuring a fresh piece of artwork of Crash Bandicoot in a racing car.
