We've already given you our review of DOOM: The Dark Ages here at Pure Xbox, where we mentioned how the Xbox Series X version looks and performs great - but how does it stack up against the Xbox Series S version?
There are loads of ways to compare this, and we'll start with Digital Foundry's analysis. The outlet says that DOOM: The Dark Ages "delivers a pretty version of the game" at a dynamic 1440p resolution, although image quality can be "a touch soft at times and VRS artefacts can be unflattering".
The Xbox Series S version fares worse, coming in with a native peak of about 864p and featuring a "soft" and blurry visual image with "smeared appearance on fine geometry and textures". That said, DF still mentions that "generally Dark Ages is a really satisfying experience on PS5 and Xbox Series" - and that includes the Series S.
"Impressions to date strongly suggest that the console versions are in relatively solid shape."
"Doom: The Dark Ages is a superb shooter that is well worth your time on console systems, minus some small current quirks, and I'd rank it as one of the best action experiences I've had in recent years."
Interestingly, the Xbox Series X version of DOOM: The Dark Ages is actually said to perform the smoothest of any console, and that includes the PS5 Pro. Both the Series X and Series S also manage to retain 60 frames per-second for the most part, which is particularly impressive when it comes to the cheaper console of the two.
"Stress-testing DOOM: The Dark Ages, it's Xbox Series X that runs smoothest overall, even beating PS5 Pro. The Pro runs at the highest resolution, while (not surprisingly), the hit to pixel count on Series S is quite profound."
You can check out that Digital Foundry analysis over on the Eurogamer website if you're interested, and we're also going to throw Xbox Series X and Series S videos from The Xbox Tester and Fuzion Xbox Gaming down below.
The game launches in early access this Tuesday followed by an Xbox Game Pass release on Thursday. We've got details about all the release dates and release times for DOOM: The Dark Ages elsewhere on Pure Xbox.
