Last week, we talked about how Forza Horizon 6 might have some competition on its hands in the form of a new racing title from Maverick Games, and the studio has just unveiled it — it's called "Clutch", and it's coming out in 2027.

Clutch is a AAA open-world cinematic driving game that will feature a story campaign that's seemingly split into formal racing and street racing, along with elements like chase scenes as well. The idea is that the R1K race series is the "proving ground" for racers in this story, but not everyone's into it - there are others who prefer showing off their customisation and "the raw thrill of speed" provided by the Midnight Collective street racing scene.

Ex-Forza Horizon creative director Mike Brown revealed Clutch in a stream earlier today, and had the following to say after its announcement:

“Maverick has assembled a dream team of car lovers and driving fans with decades of experience building genre-defining open-world racing games. Our mission from day one is for Clutch to push the genre into a new era, innovate through new types of open-world sandbox gameplay and deliver a generational leap on the staples of why we love driving games."

Today's reveal included quite a bit of information about the level of detail being applied to each vehicle in the game, along with the extensive customisation options. It's clear that we're getting some major licenses here (think Porsche, Aston Martin, BMW, etc.), and the game apparently takes place in a "living PvPvE action-driving world".

More information about Clutch will be shared at Summer Game Fest 2026 on Friday night, and some gameplay footage might pop up later today too (we'll throw some videos down below if it does).

Clutch will be coming to Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, PS5 and PC at some point in 2027, with Spring 2027 seemingly penned in as a release window for now. We'll definitely be keeping a close eye on this one in the months to come!
