GTA 6 could be a bit of a trouble-maker when it comes to other 2026 game launches, couldn't it? The Rockstar epic is sure to swallow up everyone's time and attention when it finally launches this year (supposedly), and the latest rumour doing the rounds suggests that Xbox's Fable may end up getting delayed to avoid it.
According to industry reporter Jeff Grubb, "Fable has been pushed internally", although Grubb does go on to say that "they're still trying to get it out this year" in terms of Microsoft's current plan for the RPG reboot. It all seems to hinge on GTA 6, going off this rumour.
"I'll say that I've heard that Fable has been pushed internally. That doesn't mean that it's coming out next year. Apparently they're still trying to get it out this year, but they are worried about the launch of GTA6. And so if it's getting delayed beyond the release of GTA6, that could push it into December, which might make it a prime candidate to get delayed into 2027."
Now, we're taking this information with a huge pinch of salt for now, and we suggest you do the same too. Honestly, it's quite easy to predict that Rockstar's new title is going to affect other big game launches within its orbit - especially other open-world RPGs like Fable. Also, Playground Games was notably coy on giving us a date beyond "Autumn 2026" at this year's Xbox Developer Direct, so it makes sense that they're seeing how things play out this year first.
Still, Grubb says that he's heard this is indeed the case - so we're playing attention to the rumour for now. Here's hoping that both Fable and GTA 6 give us more concrete details on their release plans in the very near future.
