Talking Point: What Game Franchises Would You Pay $80 For On Xbox?

Since Nintendo revealed that $80 games are coming to Switch 2 — and Microsoft announced price increases that include upcoming AAA titles — the cost of video games has been a hot topic. Recently, outspoken Borderlands 4 lead Randy Pitchford also chimed on this by basically saying that real fans would be willing to spend more on the games they love - which leaves us with one question, what franchises would you be okay spending more money on?

Of course, with the likes of Xbox Game Pass, us lucky folks on Xbox Series X|S and PC are spared the difficult choice of which games to actually buy half the time. Microsoft has such a packed slate at the minute that it'd be difficult to choose which to actually buy, but when it comes to most third party games, that decision is still there to be made. And in the current landscape here in 2025, that's a difficult choice to make.

If we throw Xbox Game Pass out of our heads for a minute here, there are definitely some Xbox first-party games we'd spend more on - if it came to that. Forza Horizon games literally last us years so they're worth more than the price of admission, and something like Halo, Gears or Fable seem worth a fair chunk of cash as well.

Obviously, GTA 6 is always closely linked with this topic given the sheer value that this Rockstar series delivers on. It's a known quantity, it will probably last for more than a decade at this point, and 2K pours so much money into the franchise that it's almost unfathomable. We don't know any pricing details on the new one yet, but if there were ever a game worth bumping prices up for, it's probably a new Grand Theft Auto game.

Obviously, unknown IP is pretty hard to judge in this regard, but of the franchises that already exist out there, which would you be willing to pay $80 or more for? Talk to us about 'em down below.
