I don’t think this is comparable with Sony’s vita card pricing as the Xbox has alternative storage if required on traditional hard drives.

On Vita you could only use their SD cards with no other option...

They’re probably just not sure at this stage what is involved in “downgrading” it for the series s so don’t want to commit to it yet...

Consoles are effectively old tech as soon as they release. Didn’t stop gameboy, Wii and switch from selling bucket loads...

Totally agree about Sackboy, I’m so hyped for that and thought I was the only one!!

As I’ve got such a big backlog I want to work through I’ve decided to hold out a few months before going next gen. I hope by the time I buy stock will be plentiful!

This is good news for MS imo though I do worry about the sustainability for Xbox. I’m worried that MS’s games won’t have very big budgets and will either be short or released in a way where there’s been other cuts made.

Jim is quite right that his games aren’t sustainable at that subscription point which means MS’s games won’t have those budgets. That is a concern for the quality for MS but they will have quantity on their side.

@Kev_Morrison how can you say that after what MS showed? In my opinion Sony have way more interesting looking new games to showcase their new machine. Yes MS have shown good value but that’s not why we buy consoles...

@Z3u5000 yeah an optical drive will cost way less than $100 but I think they offset the price further as with a digital console sale they know all software goes through the store where they have full price control, bigger margins and prevent losing out on second hand sales...

Of course no one noticed, nobody outside of MS knew what it looked like!

@pip_muzz I’m surprised by this considering MS keep plugging backwards compatibility. Really series x is backward compatible but series s less so as it lacks a drive to play games like FH1-3. MS should bring them back digitally to account for this imo.

@BlueOcean I agree but what you have to consider is the average mum buyer that goes into a game store will see the cheapest Xbox being cheaper than the cheapest PS5 and not caring about specs etc. That’s where Sony have got a problem imo...

@BionicDodo agreed I think it’ll be a closer run this time between MS/Sony. Even with the disastrous PS3 launch price it went on to sell more than the 360 so I wouldn’t be surprised if PS5 was more expensive than the X at least to begin with.

@BlueOcean my guess is £449/$499 PS5 disc version, £50/$50 less for digital...

@BlueOcean I can’t see Sony being able to undercut the series x. It has a lot of tech in it like the custom ssd, new haptics, possibly liquid metal cooling (unconfirmed) etc.

My guess is that they’ll match series x price but who knows!

Anyway I’m glad MS are finally being aggressive and competing with Sony again. They were underwhelming for me this gen. Is great for us consumers!

I have a feeling MS are taking quite a hit on the S which could be the price they’re willing to pay to get people to switch to digital.

MS are making some great moves but a lot of us like Sony and Nintendo games too, both of which are doing great things and have MS beaten with actual games imo.

@Jslade to be honest I think the Series S is the better choice as MS haven’t shown anything that uses the series x power. Not only that but their cross gen strategy means they probably won’t have anything that does for quite a long time...

While I like the XSX hardware MS have yet to show me a reason actually get one.

I thought Halo was going to change that but was underwhelming considering it was supposed to show off what the most powerful console is capable of.

Ghost of Tsushima on PS4 looked more impressive!

CD Project Red are about as gamer friendly as any developer I know so have confidence these will be implemented well...

I still want a proper remaster of Mario 64 personally. Was hoping the 35th anniversary was going to have it but looks like I’ll be waiting a bit longer!

Other than that I’d say nier automata. While it’s a superb game, it looks a bit poop so a remake in 20 years would be welcome!

You could say the lack of Xbox games is telling but no doubt you’ll blindly refute that too? If I’m not mistaken MS didn’t reveal many release dates either did they?

Also yes I am going to buy Spiderman as the first game was superb. What’s your issue? That you think it’s dlc when it’s a stand-alone game? It’s only Xbox fanboys calling it dlc, nobody else. As for miles morales, it’s not dlc, it’s a stand-alone title along the lines of First Light developed for PS5. Take your fanboy hat off and look objectively.

If you had a new console releasing, wouldn’t you want some software to show it off? That’s all Sony is doing and personally I’m glad there’ll be some great content to play at launch.

That’s only true on XSX as MS decided to go cross gen for at least two years. For PS5 there is lots of games developed solely for the console. Off the top of my head - GT7, demon souls, R&C, horizon 2, astroboy and Spiderman... this is the reason Halo looks inferior to Sony’s offerings.

Funny thing is what’s been shown so far from both MS and Sony, the ps5 is making xsx look inferior in every aspect. That’s the majority of gamers opinion, not just mine...

@Z3u5000 yes it certainly seems to have been designed around the notion of keeping it quiet. X1 and PS4 were definitely quite noisy so that’s great news.

It also looks like Sony have used innovative tech for cooling purposes. I even heard they were looking at liquid metal cooling but not sure of the truth in that. Will be interesting to see how they’ve handled it v’s Microsoft...

This is a good idea and probably inspired by Sony’s recent successes in mixing up ways of dropping info like the wired article etc.
