After various teases earlier this year, TeamKill Media has confirmed that its PS5 first-person shooter Quantum Error is now also coming to Xbox Series X, with the intent to release both versions at the same time.
Responding to fans on YouTube, the developer explained that it had "always been open to more platforms," and the game currently has a rough release window of late 2021 for the two systems.
Interestingly though, TeamKill was hesitant to confirm that the game is heading to Xbox Series S for now, stating "it will depend on how development goes," and "we will find out at a later date." That's news to us, as it has been widely assumed that all next-generation Xbox games will work on Xbox Series S as well.
We've reached out to Microsoft for clarification on this.

Relatively sure that Microsoft isn't going to allow them to release an Xbox Series X-only title. So, good luck with that.
@SuperKMx Indeed! That would be a BAD precedent at any time but particularly before launch.
On a sidenote I wonder if having multiple SKU's will occasionally delay development and release for smaller studios on xbox.
Hmm, News like this is no good for anybody planning to get a Series S..
I mean it's not even been released yet and already talk of a game not coming due to technical capability...
@BANJO I would suggest that the talk is due to developer INcapability, if I'm honest. They've rushed to put this trailer out in the middle of the pre-order hype.
If Doom Eternal can run on a Switch, then I'm pretty sure these guys can get their game running on a Series S.
Surely Microsoft won't be allowing Series X exclusives
They’re probably just not sure at this stage what is involved in “downgrading” it for the series s so don’t want to commit to it yet...
What is the problem here? The game will also be released on PS4!
@SuperKMx Yes exactly it does seem like incapability...
As you say if Doom Eternal can run on Switch I see no need for this to not release on the Series S..
@SuperKMx I agree, the game is able to run on Series S at lower resolution and Microsoft won't allow Series X-only games.
@SuperKMx it’s a very small indie dev (4 people). Maybe they should stick to PS5 for time being and release the XSX later if they need extra time to optimize for the XSS. But then also they will run into split resources due to bug fixing in that case. Then the XSX version would even more so be delayed.
You can’t have the same expectations on a team of 4 people as you got with a AAA team.
I won't take the developer's comments as some kind of a doom signal or anything - yet - the company might not have a Series S dev kit in-house to make the proper optimizations.
@SuperKMx as far as I know Doom Eternal doesn't run on Switch.
@graysoncharles damn you beat me too it
Been in line since 3am for an 11am pre order. I guess I should get an X
@graysoncharles Hey, have faith haha.. 😀
I have a copy pre-ordered.... But I admit time will tell to see how it runs... Apparently more news will be revealed shortly regarding the Switch version...
I just hope they reveal a release date finally..
@sixrings Not yet, but it clearly will.
https://www.vg247.com/2020/09/19/doom-eternal-switch-is-very-close/
@sixrings The Switch version hasn't been cancelled but nobody has seen it. It hasn't been shown.
@SuperKMx Can Doom Eternal run on the Switch though? That version of the game has been MIA for quite some time.
@BlueOcean well I am pessimistic in some cases. The fact that it's not shown makes me believe it doesn't exist. I can't believe companies. Example: Sony we don't believe in generations...
@Link41x @sixrings They might be waiting for New Nintendo Switch or something, Doom on Switch runs under 600p 30fps 😂.
I'm sure it will come to Series S.
@Link41x Apparently it isn't far off.
Regardless, if the Doom devs are even close enough to say that it's possible, I'm sure these guys can get their game running on a Series S.
@BlueOcean maybe. I'd like a switch pro but maybe it's going to be low key cancelled. Games do dissappear and I don't know the market for a full price game which sells for about $10 on other consoles over a year later.
Conspiracy theory - former PS5 exclusive comes to XBOX Series X on the day of pre-orders but with a caveat on the Series S. Could this be Sony supported to help spoil the messaging on Series S compatibility for next gen games?
For all the people saying Microsoft won't allow this: I find it hard the believe the developer announced this without getting the all clear from Microsoft first.
This is probably because this game is being made by 4 people & they had no intention of releasing the game on Xbox any time soon until all of the awesome Xbox news to come out lately, building up interest & hype for the consoles.
I doubt Microsoft would allow them to not release on Series S. And I would be wary of getting this on Series X because this is probably a rush job reaction to the hype of Xbox lately & who knows what condition the game will be in at launch.
Good job I don’t care about this game then! Tbf as long as I get all new releases for next 2-4 years I’ll be happy with S! Planning on getting a PS5 abit down the line so I can have the best of both but who knows may end up upgrading to an X if Sony don’t get their arses in gear...
Wait what, I though all series x games ran on series s as well? I'm uninformed on this then. That changes my perspective on the console then.
whoa whoa whoa whoa - They can't do that ... can they? Aren't they obligated to make any Series X able to run on a Series S?
@GilbertXI
This is the only game saying this. And every game is supposed to run on the X & S, so I have no idea what this developer is talking about.
@GamingFan4Lyf I’m sure it’s more this. The Series S just got announced, team of 4, probably no dev kit. They just don’t want to promise what they don’t know.
Typical, devs talk about more powerful machines being more expensive to create for, but it can result in lazy optimisation from some teams.
Some many cutting edge games run on lower spec PCs, it's not hard to configure lower textures and graphics quality to make use of hardware with lower GPU and RAM.
