Microsoft and Playground Games have reiterated that an enhanced version of Forza Horizon 4 will be available for Xbox Series S & X on November 10th, meaning it will be ready for you on launch day.
As previously confirmed, the game will now run in native 4K Ultra HD at 60 frames per-second on Xbox Series X, which will include higher visual fidelity at longer distances. Furthermore, it will also benefit from faster load times and the new Quick Resume feature. Microsoft hasn't revealed any information yet about the Series S version.
If you already own Forza Horizon 4, you'll get the upgraded version at no extra charge through Microsoft's Smart Delivery program, and it will also be included for Xbox Game Pass subscribers. We'll see you on the start line!
Will you be taking the wheel with Forza Horizon 4 on Series S/X launch day? Let us know below.

Xbox killing it right now! Launch day games keep coming. 💚
This is nice but it is a shame how unceremoniously Forza Horizon 1-3 have been consigned to the bin of digital history. Luckily I have physical copies so can play them all still, but I do wish Microsoft would give a little more love to some of its older games.
I know it's a licensing cost, but it still sucks that anyone new coming to Xbox will have to start with Horizon 4 and miss out on the fabulous 1-3.
@pip_muzz Agreed. Especially with Forza hub and their reward tiers. It's a completely different game for those that are racing to unlock better cars compared to those who are getting up to half a million credits a week for free. The system encourages players to play the old games. Not sure why you'd limit that.
@pip_muzz I’m surprised by this considering MS keep plugging backwards compatibility. Really series x is backward compatible but series s less so as it lacks a drive to play games like FH1-3. MS should bring them back digitally to account for this imo.
Have on my one x looks amazing.
Still not sure if it will need to load the whole game again or a patch in an update for series x if my one x version is put on the SSD from my external SSD.
Would be good to know if I’m gonna some mega downloading to do on the 10th of November of just some small patch updates.
This is great news, but would really have been better if they could have had some new expansion to release with it.
I'm very eager to see how the Series S handles One X enhanced games.
I assume if a One X enhanced game doesn't receive a Series patch then it will run it just fine. We will see.
This game IS getting a patch, so consider the current performance profiles:
One/One S - 1080p 30FPS
One X - 1080p 60FPS/4K 30FPS
I'm thinking:
Series S 1440p 60FPS/4K 30FPS
Series X 4K 60FPS (No requirement for another mode)
Of course the graphic settings may also differ.
I just hope that the Series S DOES receive 4K modes where it would be perfectly capable. They may hold them back for marketing reasons... hope I am wrong.
I will be getting the X, but an S for the bedroom sounds tempting at the crazy low price.
@JetmanUK The Series S is 4K-capable because it has a 4K upscaler so it's certainly able to output 4K but I don't know if it's able to render at 4K or if that is capped in order to prevent dynamic resolution games to go that high and hinder the frame rate.
@pip_muzz when you say “luckily I have physical copies” it doesn’t really mean too much. I have digital copies and can still play them, delete them, and re-download them just fine. The sale of it on the microsoft store has stopped but its still fine to play for anyone that bought it. You may know that already but just for anyone reading your comment; as I see that sort of confusion a lot.
I can't wait for this patch and the Sea of Thieves patch but I'll admit I would have loved Forza Horizon 3 to get a 60 FPS mode as well.
@K1LLEGAL Yep, that doesn't happen on Nintendo because some of their stores are closed (DSi and Wii this far). It's great that Microsoft recently merged the 360 and Xbox stores so there's one place to get or re-download all your games, they could have just shut the 360 store down like Nintendo did.
@BlueOcean 100% Nintendo isn’t on anywhere near the same level with digital stuff. With Xbox, I can still download something like Gauntlet (which I bought for 400msp) from when i first got it in Jan/Feb 2006, even though it’s been delisted. Thats kinda crazy (though Steam is the same). Thats 14years of building up a library and thats why backwards compatibility is so important.
I have almost 600 digital titles on Xbox (including games with gold) and I have been caught out precisely once and i’m not sure exactly how it happened. With Telltales Guardians of the Galaxy, I had the game and the season pass, and episodes 1-4 but somehow never got episode 5, which of course is currently delisted, so I have no way to access it even though I paid for it. But that is the one and only time.
I am currently playing Forza Horizon 4 and it’s the best racing game that I have ever played. And I have been playing games since the Atari days.
@K1LLEGAL Yes you're absolutely right. Any digital copies bought before the delisting work as well and are permanently in the games library.
The DLC for each game exists digitally only and isn't on my disc of course either.
Fantastic. I would say It hope it lives up to expectations’ but there’s no point, Forza Horizon always does.
@KelticDevil
Agreed
@K1LLEGAL
Nintendo got left behind when it comes to Digital Gaming by Iwata. First in not seeing the rise of Online Gaming. Then by adopting dreadful anti-Consumer DRM on Wii/Wii U/DS. They’ve never caught up.
@pip_muzz If you own Forza 1-3 digitally you'll still be able to play them though
It’s a shame they don’t chuck out a few more DLC packs. Fortune Island was really good whilst the Lego one was fun but a little jarring.
Why not introduce Motorbikes (who you race against in the intro) and maybe have a facsimile of the Isle of Man so you can run the TT circuit?
Even better why not port over the entire map from the original Forza Horizon!!
@BlueOcean
Knowing what we know now, with the Series S running One S profile games only I think a patched Forza H4 will be:
Series S 1440p (or if they dont push for this, 1080p)60FPS
Series X 4K 60FPS
No 30FPS modes
Of course the graphic settings may also still differ, this is particularly interesting as the One X runs higher settings at 4K mode, with the 1080P mode using mostly the One S settings.
This will be a good indication of how native gen games will run on the Series S.
I now suspect that they will run at detail levels of the One X and at higher frame rates, but just at 1080P/1440P... and you know what? That is just fine. I have a 32" TV in the bedroom and the Series X would be wasted there. Bring it on!
@JetmanUK Yep, another good example is Gears 5 at 120 FPS on Series S. The new small console is a very promising one.
