According to a recent job listing posted on the WB Games careers site, developer NetherRealm is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to "drive the next generation console graphics vision for the Mortal Kombat and Injustice franchises."
The job listing, which was posted back on June 4th but was only recently discovered by TheGamePost, explains that the successful applicant will be working on both the Xbox Series X and PS5:
As a Principal Graphics Engineer you will work closely with the Lead Engineer and the rest of your peers to develop state-of-the-art graphics technology for the PS5, and XBOX Series X.
Nothing is mentioned in the listing as to whether these will be entirely new games in both franchises, or whether they simply relate to enhanced ports for Mortal Kombat 11 and Injustice 2. And given that this project is still in the hiring stage, we ultimately might not know the answer for some time.
Do you think this relates to entirely new Mortal Kombat and Injustice games? Share your thoughts below.

Well, I'm sure as hell hoping for new games. Otherwise the Mortal Kombat ones would just be reboots of reboots...
@ThanosReXXX Yeah, it could always be a Smart Delivery thing where they port them over with enhanced graphics though.
I wouldn't think so, but you never know...
Or it could be both. A New Injustice and a port of MK 11?
@FraserG Yeah, I suppose that could be an option. Although I figured smart delivery was more of a forward thinking thing, meaning that they run on all Xbox One's, but will automatically be upscaled and expanded upon on Series X, not so much about upgrading old games.
@mousieone I think that should be the other way around:
Injustice is a couple of ports/reboots behind.
@ThanosReXXX Yeah, but then they've already announced Gears 5, Destiny 2, Cyberpunk 2077, etc will be using it for enhanced versions as well. I wouldn't be surprised if Control gets added to that list too.
We'll see!
