Xbox boss Phil Spencer has been talking about Microsoft's upcoming Xbox Series X event in July, which will be dedicated to the "incredible [first-party] games coming from Xbox Game Studios."
In an interview as part of Gamelab Live 2020, Spencer noted that the company has been taking feedback from its previous Inside Xbox event last month, and that he feels good about July's show:
"I feel good about July and the gameplay that we are gonna be showing there and the hardware capability."
"Teams are working hard to get [our July show] lined up. We've taken feedback from our last event, and I think people are really going to be pleased with what we are going to be showing there. Halo Infinite will be a big part of it, and that's obviously an important title for us."
Other Microsoft employees have also been talking about July's event recently, with Xbox video producer Todd Kaumans stating that he can "cannot wait for everyone to see it." The show doesn't yet have a definitive date, but we'll let you know as soon as it's announced.
Are you looking forward to July's Inside Xbox event? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.

There's a lot of developers under the Microsoft game studios umbrella, I can't wait to see what fresh ideas they've been cooking up. You can bet Microsoft has given them the freedom to create what they wanted.
I think we'll be getting the price along with a solid release date. They can't wait much longer to announce if its out at the end of this year.
I am looking forward to it, if only to shed some light on whether I'll be going Xbox or PS again next gen. One thing is for sure though, Microsoft isn't going to lure me back with just another Halo and Gears of War.
@SuperNintendoMii I think Microsoft are hoping Sony says something first about price and release date so they don’t end up being more expensive like the start of this generation. So I wouldn’t be surprised if Microsoft held out until end of July to make that announcement.
I am so psyched for this event! They don’t have 15 studios for nothing.
I would love to see another studio acquisition or two.
You see this is what bugs me. Stop hyping up the event so that you don't disappoint.
@SuperNintendoMii
If they come out & just do $399, then it’s a 🎤 drop moment.
Sony is screwed then.
We'll see, Phil, we'll see...
I have a lot of confidence in Phil Spencer hitting the nail on the head, seeing as he's delivered on most of his promises, so I'm relatively confident that they WILL deliver the goods, but with last month's event in mind, I just can't help but be a little bit more cautious with my expectation level.
As long as theyve given everyone better webcams I'm sure it'll be great . Seriously though I expect them to drop some bombs, going to be an exciting event for sure!
@KelticDevil I don't think they will be. I really think this isn't going to be as big a gap in price as people think.
@FragRed I don't think Sony will announce the price first. I get the feeling that with comments from Jim Ryan about value over price, they are potentially luring Microsoft into a false sense of security, only for them to announce a price they don't see coming.
@SuperNintendoMii
I disagree. What can Sony do if Microsoft launches XSX at $399? They would be screwed bc they have the less powerful system.
And Sony is notorious for wanting to make $ off each console sold. Good luck. Microsoft has more $ than god. Lol.
@KelticDevil yeah they've made money off Ps4, but they didn't with PS3 and PS2. At least not at first.
Microsoft may very well be rich but they didn't get rich by losing money. I think it very well could be $399 but all I'm saying is that people seem to think PS5 will be something like $599 when I honestly think the price will be closer than people are expecting. Xbox will probably be cheaper but I'm not expecting a gap in price like what 360 and ps3 were.
Although at the moment Sony have a lot of goodwill coming off the back of this gen and have many established game series that are well loved. That will be what they fall on I suspect with the price gap, whatever it ends up being.
I can't wait for it, I think Xbox has a bit of an open goal regarding launch titles as Sony's best look to be next year or beyond
It’s not about price for me, it’s all about the games. The PS5 showcase in terms of release games was not that bright.
If Xbox show top notch Halo gameplay and series x graphical capabilities along with with Forza 8 and another top tier title all for release date, I think they will win a few people over. They also need to show AAA titles coming next year to keep momentum going.
Long gone are the days when Halo was enought.
blah blah blah Phil, just do it. No more bluster, no more wait 'n see, none of it. If this show is another Haloforzagears event, this was all for nothing.
They are going to enhance Gears 5 for Series X so they'll probably show that, I just hope that they don't spend much time with a game that people know. They are preparing the release of Halo Infinite so that's one that we're going to see and it's likely that Forza Motorsport 8 will be revealed. That doesn't mean that all that we're going to see is Gears, Halo and Forza because Microsoft knows that they have to prove that they're more than that.
@zane547 Microsoft weren't screwed as such but you can't deny the Xbox One has been a disaster for them. Sony sold over 100 million consoles and is still selling, Nintendo Switch launched 4 years later and has already stormed past it and is still selling whatever Nintendo can make. Xbox One isn't really selling strongly now.
They kinda rebounded from Mattricks disaster but Microsoft can't afford a repeat of that
Can't wait for this july event, Bring the heat microsoft
I’m hoping to see something decent and not just a half baked idea that shows what the system is capable of but will be forgotten when the library expands.
@zane547
Totally agree new IP’s of horizon zero dawn, last of us 2, god of war even ratchet and clank standard will be required from Microsoft studios to stand a chance against the PS5
@KelticDevil I don’t think there is a scenario where Sony will be “screwed”, unless they paint themselves into a corner where they are in financial trouble or they don’t corner 66% of the global market.
Best case scenario (for MS) they will go back to 360-like status: dominant in North America (US+Canada) and about 50% globally. (As usual, considering Nintendo a category of its own.)
@BlueOcean my expectation is they won’t spend too much time on enhanced games. Maybe a quick fire round montage of “enhanced for XSX” games and notes like “Gears 5, 4k/120fps!”
They have, what, 13 studios right now ? And rumor of an acquisition might be announced or hinted at in the event? And some of these studios are working on more than one title, so first party alone the could have 20 titles to fill time, if they chose to reveal everything everyone is working on for the next 3 years (Sony padded their event with 2022 titles so why not?)
They wont have too much time to cover these free insta-remasters.
What did anyone expect him to say? Is he gonna stab his company in the back by saying otherwise?
Although I do believe him here - I don't understand why people think he'd ever say otherwise. Not unless he was about to resign without a severance package!
@Tharsman I don't think that all Xbox Game Studios are ready to show their projects but Sony's event was underwhelming, with only two first-party games confirmed for launch: Spiderman .5 and Astro's Playroom and focusing on third party games that will come to Series X. It's not difficult to beat that.
@Tharsman
I actually agree. I just meant kinda what you said. Xbox takes back the North American market (US, Canada, & Mexico) & gets back their foothold in the UK.
Sony will always have a bigger total market share in the world. And Nintendo has seemed to embrace their place in the market as being the “2nd console” to gamers who already own an Xbox or PlayStation. They’ve been successful in doing so (minus the Wii U).
@zane547
Difficult to keep people engaged with a FPS?
It’s the most popular genre in console gaming. So I disagree.
A lot of people in here complaining that Xbox is just Halo/Gears/Forza & nothing else (which is not accurate anyways).....
What did Sony just show off? A Spider-Man expansion pack. A sequel to Gran Turismo. A sequel to Ratchet & Clank. A sequel to Horizon. 🙄
In fact, how many God Of War games are we up to now? Even Uncharted is catching up to Gears in the # of sequels. R&C has about 398 games in that series. And Spider-Man was not a new IP, obviously.
And all of Sony’s 1st party games don’t even include multiplayer. There are all “one and done” games. At least Microsoft 1st party offers great multiplayer along with a campaign.
I’m tired of the stale & tired narrative that Xbox is all Halo/Gears/Forza & needs to do what Sony has been doing. Because they don’t.
@Steel76
Tell you what; when Nintendo fans get tired of MarioZeldaPokémon, we'll consider your proposal.
@Dezzy70
A game like The Last of Woke 2? No thank you. You can keep that trash on PlayStation. 🙊💩😫
@gingataisen
Well maybe not that game if you don’t like it. But We do some AAA from Microsoft studios. Which I think will we get at launch and have a great launch. But they need to keep em coming the year after.
@Dezzy70
Eastmen (a leaker who has been reliable with Xbox info in the past) said that, by the time they get the ball rolling, XGS intends to release a AAA game every other month, to keep people subscribed to Game Pass. That's 5 or 6 titles a year. They're going to need more studios to make that happen.
