Green is my favorite color, so it’s always going to win. Regardless of system....
That said PS5 is a lot more clearer on which system the game is meant for.
That huge blank space next to Xbox Series X is surely for the Xbox Series S, right? It has to be.
I like that it only says "Xbox" on top, the only thing I don't like is the Optimized for Series X logo which should be on the back side.
Personally not fussed, I can't imagine I'll be buying anything on disc to be honest. I've fully embraced digital!
Honestly I prefer the PS5 case. I would have preferred it if the plastic was white tho.
I like the Xbox case but it says series x then underneath has a massive 'optimised for series x' thing covering the art
But the big question.
Will the discs be on the wrong side in the Xbox case again
I prefer the Series X case, The PS5 case does look good though..
I do all digital so I’ll almost never see this lol
I think the PS5 case does a better job of differentiating it from its predecessor. I can see a few parents getting confused about which Xbox game to buy if there are some next gen exclusives
Neither! The case in the PS4 should be the same color as the label, for one.
As for the XBox boxes: that "Optimized for XBox" stamp is absurdly large! I was expecting that to be a tiny icon in the corner, definitively the size of the company logo, tops.
Also: that label is completely redundant if there is going to be a black "XBox Series X" label under the XBOX logo. On top of that: the top of the box says XBox twice due to the black label!
We only need 1 instance of the name XBox, and it should be the one in the green plastic case. We only need one instance of Series X, and it should be the one in the black label, that stamp looks terrible in the front of the box. Put it in the back, and change the black label at the top to "Series X Optimized" or "Series X Required" as needed!
Ugh... my graphic design professors are rolling on their graves (or their couches... but they were darned old when i was their student so... anyways...)
2K21 Series X will confuse people who expect it to work on the Xbox One.
I voted Xbox but I don't like either of them. The playstation one looks kind of empty. But I guess that might be the giant white bar at the top.
The only thing I don't like about the Xbox one is the giant "Optimized for Series X" sticker. But generally I don't like Xbox cases either because whenever I open them it feels like the disc is on the wrong side even though technically there isn't a wrong side.
That XSX box will lead a bunch of parents to buy the wrong version, it says just XBOX on top, with tiny series x.
Also, why a game for XSX should have a big and annoying OPTIMISED FOR XSX on the cover??? I mean its a game for XSX...
I thought PS5 boxes was bad, but this are worse.
I voted Xbox, but not a huge fan of either. I do like that it just says “Xbox” at the top, but the “optimized for Series X” is much too large.
I'm here hoping that the "optimized for series X" is literally a sticker placed on top of the shrink wrap.
@zane547 They are in the wrong side. +20 of optical disc boxes says so.
@ThePrettySenshi With that logic XSX boxes are wrong being Green..?
Both have issues but I quite like the PS5 logo in black and white so that edges it for me
(Runs)
@FraserG If the Series S this doesn’t have a disk drive. Then it wouldn’t be able to play the disk. Even if it can download all the same games digitally.
I prefer the series X one If it didn’t have the giant rupee but as it is the PlayStation one is slightly better in spite of the white on blue box.
Has Xbox confirmed that these are the cases?
@zane547 Don't forget the PS5 has blue lights on it, so there is that.
Never been a big fan of green, so PS5 wins by default.
@Makina
I'm not sure I understand what you're getting at.
but have you ever opened an Xbox One case before? If you have, you'll know what I mean.
@ThePrettySenshi That's exactly what i mean. XBO disc are in the the left side of the box, that's the wrong side.
@Makina I never noticed this but I only own one physical Xbox One game and its a steel book so the game is on the right side
It should say "Series X". Xbox brand is on top already. What is that huge rupee doing there? Anyway, I think Xbox One game boxes look better than PS4 ones so if they remove the giant logo I'm fine. For some reason I like that translucent green.
@carlos82 I have the Resident Evil VII Steelbook. What is yours?
@BlueOcean I feel like only saying XBOX is bound to confuse grandmothers trying to buy their niece Cyberpunk on the XBO thinking it'll work just fine
True but it says Series X below. Some leaked game boxes say Xbox One / Series X below. I think this might get some time to get used to but they want to leave it at just "Xbox" and release several consoles as models. Like Surface.
Both are wrong to me.
MS is a fricking mess with XB Brand nomenclature.
Normal people will just grab that from shelves and put it into a XB One.
@BlueOcean Injustice 2, picked it up recently as it comes with all the dlc
When you see the PS5 case you know it's for a PS5. With the Xbox case people will see simply 'Xbox' and think its for Xbox One. Series x could be interpreted as xbox one x
Don't underestimate the stupidity of the public. Nintendo found that out the hard way.
I was hoping for something more unique for the Series X itself from Xbox. I'm not keen on the PS5 box colouring, but the fact it's more unique compared to this gen gave it my vote... Maybe the boxart will change once they inevitably phase out OG Xbox One support.
They're both not great. PS5 looks really cheap but Xbox looks way too busy. Optimised For Series X doesn't need to be that big and seems to be randomly thrown onto the box.
@carlos82 OK. Most of my games are digital but I have some physical Xbox One games including the Resident Evil games, not sure why I need them physically.
Hard to tell here because the Miles cover is a much cleaner image than the NBA one.
PS2 and PS5 covers look good. Never felt that strongly about Xbox covers. The holy grail is definitely Playstation 1 and Gameboy boxes. Holy heck man.
The Xbox boxart is nice. Has a futuristic feel to it. I would have preferred NBA 2K went with one cover athlete vs 3. And I personally dislike these offshoot Spider Man characters, Miles Morales, Spider Gwen, etc. If Peter Parker was the protagonist, I would have used old Steve Ditko or Jack Kirby art as a standard. Oh well.
@ThePrettySenshi I’m going to have to go open all my cases now lol I just don’t notice these things...
No surprise since this site has been infested with Sony fanboys.
I'm an X-Box guy, and been so since the original system (although I love me some Nintendo too). That being said. the PS5 case is more clear it's meant for a PS5. I can see a lot of non-gamers who are buying gifts for kids getting Series X games for X-Box One owners or vice versa.
Honestly not digging either of them. Xbox looks like they just removed the One and added series X on there's and PlayStations looks like it's a place holder.
@FraserG the blank space next to Xbox Series X is for Xbox One, they’ve done this on a lot of games already. Like Bully and Red Dead game of the year edition, it’s also there on most exclusives.
If you check on Game.co.uk website you’ll see that all the new releases have them and shows Xbox One in them.
@WesEds The NBA 2K21 version in the image is exclusive to Xbox Series X though, so that's why it hasn't got the Xbox One name on it as well - you'll only see that on Smart Delivery and dual-entitlement games.
@Ryall Good point! We'll have to wait and see if the Series S has a disc drive after all...
I voted Xbox, simply because I'm not a Sony fan, and because of the discrepancy between the white of the logo bar and the color of the box, which is more in line on the Xbox box art, but as many others have said, that giant "optimized for Series X" logo is both super ugly and completely redundant.
Whoever came up with that should be drawn and quartered...
@FraserG "Good point! We'll have to wait and see if the Series S has a disc drive after all..."
On some leaked boxes it says "Series X/Xbox One".

@BlueOcean Yeah, this seems to be for Smart Delivery games. The NBA 2K21 image in the pic above is just a Series X exclusive version.
And again, there's that blank space next to Xbox One, makes me wonder...
Just looks a bit strange to me!
@FraserG Right. Series S is likely to happen but then again we don't know if it's digital-only. Unresolved mystery for a little longer, I'm afraid.
It could also be that Lockhart is the xCloud units and the black box is for Smart Delivery games and that NBA 2K21 box art is not final. So many possibilities...
I'm all digital now, and glad I don't have games cluttering up my shelves.
Both are basically similar to the last gen cases, so who really cares?
@IronMan30 I voted Playstation & I don't know that my house has a single Sony product (unless you count Blu Rays, which I would understand, but it was the only HD format available for years)
For me, the Xbox Series X slightly edges out the Playstation 5. I just like the color green better.
Xbox looks better. Playstation with that white bar across top.
