Re: Assassin's Creed Valhalla Has Become The Biggest Launch In The Series' History

Scenes

Colt Eastwood has a great video today covering this. Basically these next generation games are Xbox ports of PS5 games.

PS5 Dev tools have been ready since mid 2019 and Series XS Dev tools are only being sent to developers now. So devs ported the PS5 code however they could and the extra grunt of series x is making performance about equal.

When games actually come out using game core with the extra 16-20% of raw GPU power and then add in the velocity architecture and Variable rate shading for another 30% we could be looking at next holidays games running 50% better on series x. In theory anyway.

@John117 It works with Xbox and PC with the wireless dongle thing sold separately. Which makes it all the more amusing Corsair support asked me to try it on a different device when I told them it has issues connecting lol.

I was hoping for a newer version of the Artctis 9x with USBC but they seemed to not be doing the connect like a controller thing now so pulled the trigger on the new Corsair HB75 which I'm surprised is'n't in this round up? It's been reviewed by the Verge and IGN with high marks. Loving it so far. very comfortable and a great sound.

Although every wireless headset seems to be having connection issues with Series X right now. Restarting the console fixes it for a day or two. (tried with my old Turtle Beach Stealth 600 which was perfect on the one x but same connection issues on the Series X) I've reported it to Microsoft and they said they are aware of the issue and working on a fix.

Re: Xbox Throws Shade At PS5 Following Spider-Man Upgrade Debacle

@StonyKL assuming most games PS4 will play on PS5 the ‘enhancements’ will be like a PS4 Pro boost mod, the frame rate will be a little more stable if you’re lucky dynamic res will top out at whatever is was built for often 1440p.

That a big difference from Backward compatible games playing on series X with double the frame rate or more to 60/120. Auto HDR added and rendered at full 4K. And that’s just the regular enhancements not anything patched like gears.

But neither of the things is what Xbox calls smart delivery. It literally means you get the best version of the game for the console you’re playing on.

imagine if Xbox locked the Series X update for Gears 5 behind a $50 purchase of Gears Tactics, and then charged you an additional $20 to even play it. Thats what Sony is pulling here.

Re: Xbox One X Sales Spike On Amazon As Series X Pre-Orders Go Live

Scenes

I’ve heard the sales increase was due to bots mistakenly buying them.

The names are confusing at first glance but then there are also two switches on sale and one doesn’t even switch. No one seems to have an issue with that?

When you consider Xbox’s plan is to name and sell them like iPhones X and S make a lot of sense.

Re: Guide: How Do Backwards Compatible Games Work On The Xbox Series S/X?

@AJDarkstar I think if you look for horror stories you’re going to find them. My friend has a decent Samsung LED TV that’s died on him twice in two years.

First of all Samsung and the shop fought over who should fix it in the first few months and the more recently this year when something broke he was told he had to pay for an engineer to come out (at the height of lockdown in the UK) to assess the TV at his own expense.

and if it was broken they’d fix it then but he’s still be out of pocket for the assessment. And that’s a regular LED TV. Luckily he likes arguing and over a series of weeks escalated to head office where they approved the repair.

I’d suggest getting down to a specially TV store if you have them in your area (and it’s Covid safe to do so) and chat to the guys there about stuff. Any TV can break but most are fine and you people are enjoying them too much to post on the internet about it. It’s why you only read horror stories.

At this point the longer you wait the better deal you’ll get. You’ll love it when you finally take the plunge.

@AJDarkstar I did try and vary content at first but I've played 260+ hours of fortnite with buddies alone and still looks great. The horror stories I've read about burn in at stores are because they don't leave the TVs plugged in overnight and let them do a compensation cycle to fix them themselves. The One X even has an 'OLED HEALING Pattern' designed to reduce burn in when the screen dims. If you look close it kinda moves across the screen in a subtle wave. I hope Series X has that too

Re: Guide: How Do Backwards Compatible Games Work On The Xbox Series S/X?

@AJDarkstar cool. As I understood it as consoles are designed to output over 8bit so forcing 4.2.2 just makes your TV up sample the colours and then down sample them back to 4.2.0 to display? But it’s been a while since I looked into it and then it was all Reddit posts and tech papers so I may be wrong.

I have a Sony AF9 OLED that is glorious 😆 I don’t think it will get a HDMI 2.1 update but I’m not too bothered. I know I can do 1440 @ 120 because i have that option with the One X now.

Re: Review: Battletoads - A Hilarious And Hugely Entertaining Adventure

Scenes

Cool. It looks great and I’m sure I’ll love it but I’d rather play it friends and with covid were not about to visit each other’s houses. It’s still strange there has been no comment on whether it’s planned as an update or just never coming. I’ve only read the review here and IGN and neither mentioned the lack of online co-op. I just naturally assumed it had it.

Re: Control Publisher Says It 'Can't Offer A Next-Gen Upgrade To Everyone'

Scenes

What I haven’t seen mentioned in any coverage of this is that Microsoft have a mandate where a publisher can’t charge and in-game fee to offer a next-gen update.

I guess they did that to discourage everyone charging money for upgrades and make them lean toward free. The work around seems to be offering a different edition of the game entirely. Which is what’s happening here.

So yes, it sucks. But they can’t offer an in app purchase for the original due to MS rules.
