Re: Get Ready, Dolby Vision Support Is Coming To Games On Xbox Series X

Scenes

@Lupaie79 that’s a problem with Xbox unfortunately. Stereo is mostly in sync but the more surround you add the more delayed it gets. So windows sonic is delayed and atmos is more delayed still. It’s gets made worse by using gaming mode on your TV because that displays the image faster then the sound plays to give you a faster response time. Not really sure what the fix is as the delay will be different for every TV out there. Using headphones plugged into your controller improves the sync dramatically if you haven’t tried it.

Re: Thanks To Smart Delivery, Marvel's Avengers Is A Much Easier Upgrade On Xbox Than PS5

Scenes

One downside of smart update is there doesn’t seem to be a way to get these updated xbox versions to media ahead of time which means when the update hits the news cycle is all about the PS5 update because that was able to be sent ahead of time to Digital foundry ect.

So all the footage shown and talk about it is PS5 based which kinda sucks the oxygen out of things for team green. If Xbox is mentioned at its ‘and xbox gets an update too’ tacked on to the end. I know it’s a little thing, but this is how mind share is won.

Last summer the reverse was true. With Xbox showing their games first every next gen discussion or video was illustrated with Xbox game footage because that’s literally all there was to show, even when talking about PS5. I think that really helped Xbox get to the great place they’re in today.

Re: PSA: FPS Boost Needs To Be Turned On Manually For Fallout On Xbox Series X

Scenes

@OliverOwen because there aren’t any games right now made for series X. All these games are running on old code through backwards compatibility.

It’s like playing tape cassettes from the 90s through a modern Dolby Atmos system and saying “why isn’t this surround? I thought Atmos was suppose to be amazing”.

Give them them to make games for the series X and you’ll see. 👍

Re: The New Xbox Wireless Headset Comes With 6 Months Of Dolby Atmos

Scenes

@GamingFan4Lyf look forward to trying it later today. I appreciate many don’t notice the delay. I envy you I really do. But it’s easy to confirm it’s there. Turn your sound up on your tv and have one ear of headphones in and you can hear the mis match in sound delay with an echo.

You can also Film your regular TV with your phone then film your TV with the audio and compare the sound waves in an editing program like premiere or final cut. I did to confirm I wasn’t going mad lol.

Also as the Xbox defaults to window sonic surround which has a delay it’s possible you’ve never seen it in actual sync properly and are just used to it.

Re: The New Xbox Wireless Headset Comes With 6 Months Of Dolby Atmos

Scenes

@Nermannn wireless headsets with USB dongles you plug in seem to have lower latency then headsets that use XBoxes own protocol. And I think part of it is complicated by TVs. Having game mode shows the image quicker then it should by definition that’s how it feels more responsive. So I’m not sure how we fix it.

I can’t say it’s something I noticed with the PS4 Pro a buddy leant me to play Spider-Man last year so Sony may well handle audio in a way that doesn’t have the same issue as Xbox.

Discussing with you has actually made me wonder if you can enable atmos over a wired headset connected to the pad ? If that’s the case and wiring headphones for me puts the audio before the image then adding the delay of windows sonic or Dolby may sync things back up 😆

Re: The New Xbox Wireless Headset Comes With 6 Months Of Dolby Atmos

The atmos fee is also regularly on sale too. I got it a while back on sale but don’t use it because of the audio lag it introduces. It’s the one of the few things I hate with Xbox and no one seems to mention it. It being stereo is fine. Windows sonic is slightly laggy and Dolby Atmos is even more delayed. Admittedly working in video production it’s something I’m super sensitive to but it’s still annoying. Xbox One X was the same. The best fix I can find is to plug my headphones (Arctic 9] into the controller and that actually swings things the other way. It’s nearly spot on but the sound comes a little before the picture then. But it’s the closest I can get it without go out of gaming mode on my TV and introducing noticeable controller lag.

Re: Microsoft's Acquisition Of Bethesda's Parent Company Nears Completion

@themightyant sure. I’m lucky enough to live in a city where fibre is accessible to everyone. But taking a super high level view of the “wow CD’s and DVD’s are great but when will everyone even have this’ situation I mentioned at the turn of the century. Even today, not every has access to those do they?

Just like the internet. Many people don’t have access to the internet at any speed. Yet many games sell digital only. So at what point do you deem a technology has reached mass penetration enough to call it ‘the norm’?

Maybe it’s because I lived through that once but it just seems like history repeating itself and 20yrs from now where streaming is the norm people will be discussing how VR can’t be the future because not everyone has fast enough cyber razer cuts. (Bonus points for anyone who gets that reference)

Re: Microsoft's Acquisition Of Bethesda's Parent Company Nears Completion

@Dezzy70 lol it’s true to be fair. 4K streaming gets as high as 40ish on Apple TV shows but generally past 100mbps its diminishing returns for sure. I jumped to the 900mbps package (£80pm) because it came with a higher upload speed and I run a YouTube channel so was worth it to me. Before that the package was 400mbps (£50pm) and even then very few things max that out. OS updates from Apple maybe but very few things have the bandwidth to throw that much data at you. While I have seen games on Xbox download as high as 650mbps that’s usually a brief spike in speed and very rare. In general Xbox downloads bounce around 200-350mbps and can as slow as 25mbps at peak times. I’d say in practical use anything past 75-100mbps down is gravy unless you specifically know you need it.

Re: Microsoft's Acquisition Of Bethesda's Parent Company Nears Completion

@themightyant that’s fair. I was a beta tester for GeForce Now on a Mac with a much slower speed for a number of years before I got back into console gaming. It worked fantastically so I can appreciate the way things are headed. Eventually whether streaming or local it will all be the same - just games.

In a broader sense this discussion is kind of like floppies switching to CDs and then DVDs in the late nineties / early naughties. I remember then the arguments against it, not everyone had a CD drive, it was much slower access ect. But eventually all those problems went away. This will be the same. Btw my ping is 1ms 😆

Re: Expect Microsoft To Host Bethesda Event Sometime In Mid-March, Says Industry Insider

Scenes

No way these titles come out on PlayStation unless they were fully baked and contractually signed before the deal closed. Like was the case with Psychonauts 2 and Outer Worlds ect.

Sony didn’t buy Insomniac, say “you did so great with sunset overdrive why ditch those dev skills” and release Spider-Man for Xbox because it would make more money.

Typing that seems ludicrous but that’s the logic everyone is applying to Microsoft here for some reason. 🤷‍♂️

Re: Tales From The Borderlands Has Relaunched On Xbox Today

Played and enjoyed most of the telltale games and this is by far the best with wolf among us being a close second.

Got the physical disc second hand because it was delisted but have added the new digital version to my wish list and will wait for a sale to grab it.

Re: How To Earn Free Xbox Gift Cards Every Month With Microsoft Rewards

Scenes

@LegendOfPeach Yeah, thats' the other thing. It seems really region dependent and watching reward channels on YouTube like chicken possible there are always rewards in the US not available in the UK and vice versa that aren't accounted for in these lists.

Also I don't do the emails. I don't even know what they are? lol

Re: How To Earn Free Xbox Gift Cards Every Month With Microsoft Rewards

Scenes

@themightyant I’m sure there’s also more ‘click here for surprise bonus rewards’ then they are mentioning too.

The game score for points thing happens a few times a year but obviously depends on how many gamer score you get in that time. I only managed around 1000 last month.

All I can say is doing everything regularly every month it somehow works out that way. 🤷‍♂️
