With Assassin's Creed Valhalla releasing along side the Xbox Series X|S, it appears to have made series history by becoming its biggest launch.
According to a recent press release, Ubisoft is thrilled at the results of Assassin's Creed Valhalla, with the game selling more within the first week than any past entry. Its sales can be attributed to the game's great critical response (we called it "the best entry to date") and plenty of built-up hype.
The PC version has even been cited as been the best selling Ubisoft title ever, "driven by all-time record Ubisoft Store sales performance."
“We are truly delighted by the enthusiastic response from players and want to thank the fans for their incredible support. Delivering this game amid a global pandemic was a true tour de force by our teams and it’s fantastic to see players enjoying the game so much,” said Julien Laferrière, producer on Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.
“Launch is only the beginning and we have robust content plans for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla that will keep players immersed in their epic Viking saga for a long time to come.”
Despite the good news, there's been a bit of disgruntlement today following a Digital Foundry report that the Xbox Series X version performs up to 15% worse than its PS5 equivalent, so hopefully this can be remedied in the near future.

Actually the Xbox series x version is not really 15% worse both have a some screen tearing.
The series x does have a bit more.
However the series x has VRR and if your TV has VRR it has no screen tearing and is very smooth.
The PS5 has no VRR so there is no way of removing the PS5 screen tearing.
I have VRR on my TV and the experience has no screen tearing and is as smooth as silk.
Also the PS5 having no VRR is not a good thing.
Because the Xbox 360 and PS3 days when consoles were pushed over resolution and frame rate we had a lot of screen tearing with third party games that generation on both consoles.
So if we start this generation pushing the envelope with 4K and 60fps would good see screen tearing making an unwelcome return.
The series x with the right tv gives us VRR which totally removes the screen tearing and creates a smooth experience.
I absolutely hate any screen tearing so VRR is a god send for me and having VRR on the series x is a must have for me and on any next generation console.
“That the Xbox Series X version performs up to 15% worse than its PS5 equivalent” Uh oh, you know who won’t be happy. The same person was saying that he can’t wait to watch the digital foundry videos & show how superior the series x is to the ps5. The same person who I told to just enjoy the game on whatever console you play on. Anyway nice to see that purexbox dedicated a huge amount of space on this page for the digital foundry article. Which may I add, digital foundry’s videos are excellent.
@Cyrus29
But I can get of my screen tearing but you can’t get rid of yours as you have no VRR on PS5.
I will take the VRR no screening on my TV and series x any day of the week over the slight so called PS5 advantage with some PS5 screen tearing.
Screen tearing is the lowest of the low.
Also after reading the article again it’s about frame rate only and 15 difference at its worst.
But does not say how often or to level of drop in frame rate.
So let’s say at it’s worsts only on some rare times if the PS5 was at 59fps the Series X would be at 50fps. Only at its maximum worse on the rare occasion. I will take that over PS5 screen tearing with no VRR to stop the screen tearing.
@Cyrus29 haha I was literally just thinking that aswell 😂 all I've heard off them the last few months
Pushsqaure also have an article saying let the war begin, pathetic really as these tiny differences make absolutely no noticeable difference and do not change the outcome of someones enjoyment of the game.
Both the ps5 and series X/S will have games that run better on their system and to 95% of people who buy these consoles won't even notice or care or even heard of digital foundry
These comparison videos are for the extreme fanboys who use it as material launch pathetic console war battles whilst us true gamers are enjoying the games and not giving in to the petty BS!
Yep but for the obsessives this is a little annoying, they were marketed a more powerful machine as far as pixel-pushing power goes, and it's not delivered on the highest-profile game for Christmas, it's probably a little embarrassing for Xbox, but I think the blame likely lies with optimization on Ubisoft's behalf.
@Jakovasaur its mainly down to the developers, we all know that all third party multiplat games are all going to be identical in terms of graphics, it's the first party games where your going to see which console can get the best graphics out, last gens best graphical games were on the ps4 as they really pushed it to its limits, this time though if Microsoft actually put in the effort then the best looking first party games will be on the series X, but like I said thats a big if Microsoft actually try.
Colt Eastwood has a great video today covering this. Basically these next generation games are Xbox ports of PS5 games.
PS5 Dev tools have been ready since mid 2019 and Series XS Dev tools are only being sent to developers now. So devs ported the PS5 code however they could and the extra grunt of series x is making performance about equal.
When games actually come out using game core with the extra 16-20% of raw GPU power and then add in the velocity architecture and Variable rate shading for another 30% we could be looking at next holidays games running 50% better on series x. In theory anyway.
I’m surprised the game is so popular.
@Scenes
Yep, and Series X/s uses a new development API for DirectX 12 Ultimate, so developers will take a while to get used to this change, whereas PS5 is very similar as to working with PS4 according to developers.
Although I think it's very hopeful for a 50% increase over PS5.
More likely will be a similar case as to PS4 Pro vs Xbox One X.
@UltimateOtaku91 great minds think alike👍🏻
@Cyrus29 unless he's changed his user name (again) I'm surprised not to see him comment yet
@UltimateOtaku91 Makes you wonder why people even do that?🤷🏻♂️When he did reply to my original post, I thought it was someone else😀 I don’t understand why people like him, get all worked up over a plastic box. Prior to the series x release it was magic sock time for him. Just enjoy the games, we’re very lucky to have to solid consoles, which will bring their own great games & experiences.
