I enjoy wrestling games but am always rubbish at playing them 😀 so end up making custom cpu player matches to watch and enjoy the graphics. So this mode sounds like it’s perfect for me.

You don’t have to ‘make’ everyone agree with you. It doesn’t matter at the end of the day. Big companies are gonna do what they gonna do.

@Somebody we just see it different ways. I think you really have to twist yourself in knots to see what you’re reading into it. Especially as I pointed out, the Sony deal hasn’t gone through, it’s just announced; so why is their wording different? You didn’t really address that when I pointed it out.

This reminds me of the endless discussions I had with people in comments when they’d say Starfield was ‘clearly’ going to be on PS5 and Xbox was saying it clear as day it would be on Multi-platform.

We aren’t going to change each others minds, so let’s leave it here. At least you’re good with both consoles whatever it comes out on. Happy gaming. 👍

@Somebody The Sony / Bungie deal isn’t finalised. It’s still going through like the Xbox one. But look, it clearly means a lot to you these games appear on PS5. Hope it works out for you. 👍

@Somebody my point being Sony don’t say that? Why don’t they use the same language? Why did Sony come out and say. Multiplatform now and in future. Why not, we desire to make it multi platform? Time will tell.

@Banjo- I think that’s it for sure. It’s why the wording is a little fuzzy with ‘like to’ and ‘desire’. The unspoken part seems to be.. if they allow game pass.

If you compare even Microsoft’s recent statement to continue supporting COD on PlayStation compared to the unequivocal words of Sony saying “Destiny and future games will be multi-platform”, Microsoft’s wording still feels a little vague.

@Banjo- it doesn’t look like it’s changing anytime soon unfortunately. But at least there’s a way to play it if you really want to even if you have to jump through some hoops.

@Banjo- nothings changed. It’s not listed in the UK store. For the digital version I have to switch my Xbox location to US and reboot. Then I can find it in the US store, download and play it. If I change my location back to UK with it installed it won’t launch. You have to have the Xbox location set to US to play the digital version. But that takes away the option of playing some games only available on the UK. I can see my ‘full game list’ number drop by about 30.

The UK physical copy works. Exactly as you’d expect. Put the disc in. It installs and plays fine with it set to UK.

@Banjo- that might have been me. I bought a 10 dollar US ms card. Redeemed it. Changed the location of my Xbox to US and bought ridge racer. It only plays if your Xbox is set to US region though (which takes away some UK games) until you switch back. I’ve since bought a UK disc copy from CEX for £30. So plays like normal now.

@101Force it’s Called Apple Arcade. It’s 4.99 a month. It’s been out a few years.

Apple sell 200 million iPhones a year. Let that sink in for a moment. Everyone is saying how well PS5 is doing a year and a bit after launch approaching 20 million. They don’t need to make a games console. They’re doing fine. 😀

I could see a modern pitfall being a fantastic Uncharted style game.

War Zone yes. CoD 2023 and beyond.. no way. This will be debated until it happens but it’s just like elder scrolls. ESO is still on PS but ES6? Seee yah.

So much of Sony's business model is selling games day one at a high price I don't think they can compete directly with Xbox in that way, but they don't have to. They can just add a curated selection of games from PS4 and everyone will love it. That makes sense for them. And for everyone saying Xbox Game Pass is a copy of Playstation now.. pretty sure there was a thing called Netflix before then.. who are now moving into gaming.. and it all comes full circle. 😃

@PhileasFragg as I understand it Hitman 1 and 2 are upgraded to hitman 3’s engine so it is a re-master of sorts

Really enjoyed this on Mac years ago. Been meaning to revisit it. To everyone saying it's not their normal style of game it wasn't mine either but rate it as one of the best gaming experiences you can have. And it's super short too.

I wonder what it is in the water at Microsoft but every January they seem to have a PR issue. Really glad this is being sorted out but it’s an own goal. Last year it was hiking the price of Gold. Here’s hoping this is the last snafu for Xbox this year.

Something had to give. It was a grey area MS couldn’t let go on forever. They had to be seen so ‘so’ something. It seems they just laid down the gauntlet to hackers though.

As cool as this was, it really bugged me they couldn’t track the game footage to the screens properly. It kind of wobbles around. Watching it on a big TV is not it’s friend. Fun video tho 😃

@gollumb82 same. I have a buddy with one and he’s filled it with games he never plays. Don’t quite understand it myself but each to their own. We both have 1GB download too so it’s not like it takes long to reinstall something. For someone with slower internet I totally get it.

Genuinely surprised at how a lot a people are reacting to this.

All I’ve read for the past year is - when is next-gen going to get here - and now we have something that’s very clearly next level and reactions are split between - “meh, it’s not all that” and “it’s not a REAL game though”.

I really don’t know what gamers expect at this point. I think a lot of people just want something to complain about.

Hellblade 2 could release tomorrow with photoreal graphics and the reaction would still be -“but it’s not GTA. Give me a REAL game”

@Dezzy70 we are already seeing the start of that now. Just look at the entire in game Hellblade 2 reveal from the other night.

@Widey85 I couldn’t disagree more. The entire intro is photo realistic. Without looking it up can you tell me which few shots are real footage? The uncanny valley of some sections later in the demo isn’t an engine failing it’s a resource thing. It was done by a small group of people who had to choose where to prioritise the time.

surprised there some people unimpressed by this. My jaw was on the floor for most of it. We're at a point now where character models can be indistinguishable from real life. very cool stuff.

Wow. Not very often we see leaps in graphics of this magnitude. One to watch for sure. Can’t wait to see more.

@KilloWertz just because you find it hard to believe doesn’t mean it’s not insanely difficult.

Which do you think of these options is more likely?

A: the Xbox back compat team thought it would be super funny to pick one title in every series to miss out.

B: they couldn’t be bothered.

C: it’s actually a very complicated thing to do and for one of a thousand reasons the technique they use to do it just didn’t work for that title.

If you want an idea of just how complicated this can be NoClips YouTube channel have a documentary on GOG and the similar challenges they have in adding older games to their catalogue. It’s insanely complicated. Props to the Xbox back compat team.

@Raffles yeah a gift card in dollars would do the same thing. It won’t let you purchase with anything from a uk account as it has a UK address for payment.

@Raffles so long story short I changed the Xbox location to US and used some reward points to get a $10 gift card. Then used that credit to buy the game. It doesn’t show up to download and install unless the Xbox is set to US mode. If you switch back to UK with it installed it’s still there in the games installed list but won’t launch.

@BlueOcean yeah. That’s probably all they could get. I’m sure it’s not Phil rolling a dice to decide where each game is available. 😂
To be fair they do a pretty good job about making it worldwide where they can.

@BlueOcean @Raffles so I did a bit of voodoo (not sure if I’m allowed to detail the method here) and managed to get the US digital version of Ridge Racer 6 installed. HOLY CRAP it’s Smooooooth!

I have to switch my Xbox location to US to be able to play it though. That’s a little annoying. But not as annoying as paying £90-£120 for a physical disc on eBay so I’ll live with it 😀

@Richnj I think it’s mostly fixed but at this point might as well wait for the next gen patch coming next year. That’s what I’m doing.

I recently got all the Forza games I didn’t have digitally that play on series x pretty cheap from second hand shops. I’m really in love with the original especially.

Not sonic related but seeing ridge racer 6 in the pics reminds me I’ve been trying to find it to buy. Is it not availability digitally?

@Dezzy70 that’s a great point. It’s not like they would have sold more consoles.

If it had launched with the stink of cyberpunk or more recently GTA Trilogy it would have been a death blow for the Xbox hype train.

Halo and DOA3. Had an Xbox every generation despite dropping out of gaming just after 360 launched and getting back in with a One X A few years back.
