Re: Xbox Boss Phil Spencer Reveals His Thoughts On A PlayStation Game Pass

PapaGlitch

@Dsswoosh I mean, a lot what you say about gamepass is true of PSNow also. You can stream and download all but their legacy titles and actually have access to more games than gamepass offer, at a lower price. You're right, gamepass is better, a lot better even (due largely to the new games and the likes of EA Play) but you're suggesting they're chalk and cheese which they really aren't. Frankly, the biggest real difference between GP and Now is PR.

And you're suggestion that Sony is a dead man walking?? Come off it. Sony is selling the most consoles if reports are to be believed and regardless if they are selling at a loss (common early on in a consoles life cycle), that is more than offset by the money they make from PSPlus. Plus of course they have 1st party games selling in large numbers day one (just look a the preorders for Horizon) which Xbox don't because of gamepass. Honestly, Sony is in rude health

Re: The Ubisoft+ Subscription Service Is Officially Coming To Xbox

PapaGlitch

Tempting, but the trouble is Unisoft games drop in price so quickly that you can reliably buy the titles you want cheaply enough. Even the most recent releases drop down to the equivalent of a couple of months worth of this service and around 3 months on the market. And they tend to make their games so big and bloated that it would take the average punter a couple of months to get through them anyway. That said, really wouldn't surprise me if this ends up integrated into Gamepass at some point down the line

Re: PlayStation Reportedly Creating Xbox Game Pass Competitor, Set To Arrive Spring 2022

PapaGlitch

@JayJ fair enough and not having a go, just your original posts made it sound like you were arguing the service is exclusively streaming only, which is a common misconception.

The announcement (or leak) certainly leaves more questions than answers, as the service already offers streaming legacy titles. It seems to me there is a possibility of emulation (although it seems unlikely for PS3), but we'll have to wait and see. Most likely the real change will just be Sony actually putting some effort into it and expanding the library. I anticipate they still won't be adding their big tent pole titles day 1 but perhaps after 6 months or so... Anyway, time will tell. Doubtlessly I'll subscribe, as I already do to PS+, Now, NSO Expanded and GPU and never actually get round to playing enough to actually get my money's worth like I do with all of them, as I'm a massive sucker!

Re: Review: Alan Wake Remastered - Remedy’s Cult Classic Still Holds Up

PapaGlitch

@awp69 Well, I wouldn't necessarily say they're wrong. I tried it for the first time earlier this year, and gave up a couple of hours in because the combat is such a chore. Naturally it's all a matter of opinion and if this ends up on Gamepass of PS+ I'll definitely give it another go to see if the enhancements make it any more palatable, but I certainly expect a lot of those saying it has aged well may be blinded by nostalgia. I still personally rank Ocarina of Time as my favourite game of all time, but I can't imagine I would still think that if I had played it for the first time in 2021 rather than 1998

Re: Seagate's 512GB Xbox Series X|S Storage Card Is Almost Certainly Real

PapaGlitch

For as much as I love the plug and play nature of these compared to Sony's fiddly solution, I've managed to get hold of a 1tb ssd for PS5 for almost £100 less than I paid for one of these. My brother is currently juggling the games on his Series S because the expansion card is still too pricey, and that's a damn shame considering one of the appeals of gamepass is having so many games available at an instant. Fingers crossed for a price drop in the near future

Re: Quantic Dream Is Reportedly Working On A Star Wars Game

PapaGlitch

What a a depressing comments thread this is. It's as bad as a damn Twitter thread.

Here's an idea, how about you just enjoy games, and not tie your identity to the chunk of plastic under your TV? Microsoft doesn't love you, Sony doesn't love you, Nintendo doesn't love you, so why are you lot lowering yourself to pathetic name calling to defend them.

Re: Alan Wake Remastered Is Setting Up A Planned Sequel From Remedy, Claims Insider

PapaGlitch

@Dezzy70 I don't mind them at all, because sensibilities change. To be honest I tried Alan Wake for the first time earlier this year (while it was still on GP), but over the years I have been spoiled and it just felt so stiff and janky that I ended up giving up, so I'm looking forward to trying this to see if I fare any better.

Similarly, the Demon's Souls remake is completely night and day compared to the original, and I love Star Wars but missed out on KOTOR and dislike turn based combat, and if it is real time (which there's a fair chance it will be) it will give me a chance to play through a story I never would have otherwise.

That said, there is a limit - the rumoured Last of Us remake sounds completely ridiculous!

Re: We Happy Few Devs Says Xbox Game Pass Has 'No Negative Impact' On Development

PapaGlitch

@Cyberhu slightly disengenuous there. Neither The Medium nor Psychonauts have stayed exclusive in 2021 (in fact Psychonauts never was), and to the PS list you can add F.I.S.T, Death Stranding DLC, Destruction All-Stars, FFVII DLC, Jett Far Shore, Avengers PS5 exclusive DLC..
Not saying XBox doesn't have the better exclusives this year (although Returnal is brilliant and personally I just don't get on with Halo, but I know I'm in a minority) but your list doesn't tell the whole story. Especially coupled with the fact that Sony launched a bunch of exclusives right at the end of last year and look set to front load next year too

Re: PlayStation Acquires Firesprite, The Team Behind The Persistence

PapaGlitch

The discourse around this is really starting to become tiresome - every time Sony buys a studio everyone is going to have the same Bethesda argument, same way every time Sony charge for an upgrade people will argue about smart delivery.

I honestly struggle to see how this, or the Housemarque acquisition, or the whole debacle around H:FW can really be seen as relative enough to be covered on an XBox site. It's transparently just because they know those articles generate the traffic with the same pointless debates

Re: The Xbox Series X Is Finally Getting A Higher Resolution UI

PapaGlitch

I'm having a real issue with certain games taking a long time to open. Today I tried opening a game (can't remember which) and it didn't open, so I gave up and decided to have a quick game of FIFA online instead. 10 minutes up (and when I was 1-0 up to boot) the game I'd tried earlier suddenly started and crashed me out of FIFA! Anyone have any idea what that could be about?

Similarly, I can't seem to open Halo Reach in MCC, despite it being installed, it just crashes me back to the MCC title screen. Never played it before and so far it looks like I never will! Very frustrating

Re: Xbox Issues Reminder As PS5 Unveils 'Confusing' SSD Expansion Process

PapaGlitch

Echoes of the infamous how to share a game clip Sony did. Fair play to MS, it's definitely a win for them. Albeit the M2 drives may drop in price as time goes by, but then the Xbox storage cards have already been discounted here and there. I love my PS5, but this really does show up it's shortcomings in terms of how it has been engineered next to the Xbox. MS really do deserve plaudits, the Series S and X are by no means flashy but they are beautifully compact and masterfully engineered

Re: Talking Point: Where Have You Been Flying In Microsoft Flight Simulator?

PapaGlitch

Flew around the Wirral, where I live, had trouble finding my house but found the M56 and followed it to find my way. Found my house but was mostly excited to see the field where I walk the dog with an accurate playground. My boy started playing today and was incredibly excited, he flew an Airbus around San Francisco then flew into a storm in Kenya. He wanted to have a go at flying a seaplane and taking off from the water, but I think I'm going to have to dive into the tutorials as I'm having trouble landing it on water!

Re: Former Xbox Developer Housemarque Officially Joins PlayStation Studios

PapaGlitch

@LtSarge that's assuming Gamepass is an evergreen success (excuse the XBox pun). Subscription services can fail just as well as phyical games, and should gamepass experience a downturn in user numbers MS could easily dig into seeing which games aren't being played on the service and jettison the studios. Just as Netflix won't renew a show that isn't performing, so too can MS disband devs who's games aren't pulling in subs

Re: Former Xbox Developer Housemarque Officially Joins PlayStation Studios

PapaGlitch

@The_New_Butler Yes, that's why I said it. I wasn't a massive fan of Sunset Overdrive, but I like that they gave it a go. And I don't like Sony buying up exclusives either; honestly their shenannigans with Final Fantasy is just silly and I would far rather their efforts were spent elsewhere. What I don't mind about this though is that although Housemarque have released multiformat games in the past, that was a decade ago and have since cultivated a very close working relationship with Sony, and Sony appear to have taken their time with it an ensured it is a good fit for them.

Re: Former Xbox Developer Housemarque Officially Joins PlayStation Studios

PapaGlitch

@LtSarge I get where you're coming from, and as @themightyant says, if anything it's win-win for me as I have both an XSX with gampass and a PS5, however there is definitely something unsettling about platform holders picking up big, previously multiformat publishers and developers for exclusive rights. It is why I find the Bethesda buyout troubling and it's why I found the Insomniac buyout troubling. However, I just don't get that feeling with Housemarque

Re: Former Xbox Developer Housemarque Officially Joins PlayStation Studios

PapaGlitch

@The_New_Butler It's the fact that Bethesda was a multiformat publisher, and although they may have been close to MS, they were by no means as closely aligned as Housemarque is to Sony (which is why the Bethesda buyout was such a shock).

If you want another comparision, you could compage the Ninja Theory acquisition - that was a smaller studio that if anything had closer ties to Sony (Heavenly Sword was an exclusive and Hellblade was originally a PS exclusive), which MS bought out. As others have commented, XBox doesn't really lose out on the Housemarque acquistion, whereas Playstation does for the Bethesda/Ninja Theory/Double Fine/Obsidian acquisitions

Re: Former Xbox Developer Housemarque Officially Joins PlayStation Studios

PapaGlitch

@LtSarge at the risk of sounding like a PS fanboy (honestly I'm not, I love all my consoles!), but you could make the argument that Sony have adopted a more organic approach to acquisitions, whereas MS are brute forcing their way into big name exclusives (understandably, as they need a quick solution to their exclusives problem). Sony acquire studios they have a close working relationship with and who make games who fit well into their repertoire, thus the excitement would be seeing what this already exciting studio can do with the additional resources.

Re: Former Xbox Developer Housemarque Officially Joins PlayStation Studios

PapaGlitch

@The_New_Butler to be fair, I would say that buying a smaller studio that they have a very close working relationship with and develop almost exclusively for already is quite a bit different than buying a major third party publisher. The Bethesda buyout is undoubtedly a worse deal for consumers. Not that I mind so much, but to suggest the deals are the same in terms of industry competition is a little disengenuous

Re: These Games Are Coming To Xbox This Week (June 29 - July 2)

PapaGlitch

@Cherip-the-Ripper I can't quite put my finger on it, but I can't really get into Doom Eternal. I think I'm about a third of the way through and am planning on having another go once the new update hits. I've enjoyed bits of what I've played, but it hasn't really gelled with me.

Although it may just be me, as I wasn't as enamoured with Doom 2016 as everyone else seemed to be, and I think I have an issue with Bethesda games in general; there's always something that turn me off, whether it's Fallout, Elder Scrolls, Dishonored, Evil Within, Rage... They're all games I feel I should enjoy, but I just can't, and I can't put my finger on why!
