've got a brand spanking new OLED TV arriving next week, so I'm putting off a lot of stuff until I get it. So probably just a bit of FIFA, or maybe properly starting Dark Souls 3 (the last of the Fromsoft Souls games I've got left to play)
I've just finished Elden Ring and feel in a bit of a malaise, I've got a bunch stuff in my backlog but nothing is really appealing so will probably just stay casual this weekend with a bit of FIFA
I bought it twice, for each console, something I've never done before, and I still don't really know why I did it in the first place! Very close to finishing it on the XBox, and fully prepared for a second playthrough on PS5 (maybe with a palette cleanser between!)
Fervent fanboyism is toxic and despicable, just as it is in football where you have d-heads racially abusing and sending death threats over missed penalties.
Frankly, there are idiots like this on all sides, I think it just seems worse on the PS side because at this moment that is the larger fanbase, and those with something toxic to say always shout louder (I still remember the godawful "360 frat bros era). In all honesty, I probably skew more towards PS just because more of the sort of the games are on there, but I'm not so moronic that I can't see that MS are doing some great moves and I love my XSX and Gamepass, in fact I haven't turned my PS5 on for over a month (but that's just because I happened to get Elden Ring on XSX, and nothing is getting me away from that anytime soon!)
@awp69 I'm not arguing with that, it is pretty poor that Sony haven't implemented that, or 120hz, unless I'm mistaken. But again, they are fairly niche concerns at this point
@Dusk_Actual I'm unsure of the names - I've finished the iron king one and the ones that ends with the slumbering dragon, and much prefer the latter (the run to the blue smelter is just painful). On the frozen one now, beat Aava last night
Still finishing up Dark Souls 2 - on the final DLC now. When that's done I'll make a start on Horizon Forbidden West, and after that will finally start Elden Ring. So many damn games!
I've got so much to play but I'm so deep into Dark Souls 2 that I can't really see myself starting Horizon or Elden Ring until I've finished it off. Most of the base game is clear so just making my way through the DLC this weekend before finally polishing it off in the week
Got one with my MS rewards, lovely! The way I like to set up my XBox is to download every gamepass game I think I may want to try at some point so it's ready whenever that is, so more storage was a must. Even though realistically I'm only ever playing up to a few games at a tune
That's a shame, I assumed it would. That's the danger with gamepass, I just naturally assume any XBox exclusive is on there at launch (same happened with Deaths Door)
I wonder if this is indicative of the Series S gaining a lot more traction (obviously in large part due to its relative availability) than the X. It seems likely that the game generally sold quite a bit better on PS than Xbox though, which is a surprise given its proximity to Horizon
@AhabSpampurse I've gone for XSX purely as I have credit from rewards (and have Horizon on the go for PS5). But if the PS5 is any better performance wise I'm fully prepared to double dip for this
@frabbit I'm not fussed about Gamerscore either, but I'm into MS rewards (just pre-ordered Elden Ring for nothing but trading in my points), so like playing multiplatform games on Xbox so I get those bonus 50 points every day I earn an achievement!
@Rural-Bandit I'm largely the same now, but when I bought Cyberpunk I only had the PS5. I really should have just returned it last year, but ah well. You live and you learn!
@Banjo- it would hardly be a waste of resources to port games to PS5 when they sell, in the case of COD, in their millions for £70 a pop. Not saying you're wrong and again I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up being the case, but I'm just saying the wording continually seems to be very different than what they had with Bethesda
@Banjo- I think it's important to mention that Brad specifically mentions the Minecraft situation, which to me suggests a very different arrangement than Bethesda. In that instance they very clearly said they want Bethesda games "everywhere that gamepass exists". The messaging here seems very different to me. It wouldn't surprise if they just make Acti games exclusive to Gamepass, but if we take what they're saying at face value it seems unlikely
I anticipate MS leaning into some first party third party offerings this year to keep Gamepass ticking over, as this looks to be a strong year for PS. Maybe even doing a deal with Ubisoft to include their streaming service, like they've done with EA
@Bleachedsmiles I would have assumed that COD won't hit gamepass until the deal completes, around mid 2023. I would agree that this year doesn't look as strong as last year for XBox, unless MS has something big up their sleeves...
@Somebody I can't stand anime stuff, so I largely ignore a large portion of the Japanese market myself, but they're undoubtedly massively popular. And MS have made no secret that they hope to make inroads in this area
@mousieone that's what I meant. Buying a massive publisher such as a Capcom or Sega is far more complex, not least due to (and I'm probably massively over generalising here) the culture of Japanese business clashing with the Western approach
@Richnj ah I didn't know all the in and outs, but that makes sense, and clarifies the difference between the tango acquisition and MS buying someone like Sega. That said, I would've said it would be highly unlikely MS could ever but Activision a month ago - you can never get on anything in these crazy days!
@Murray different situation. Tango was at the time a very small team, essentially Zenimax just bought Shinji Mikami onboard and he took Tango works with him
It may look better, but I've got an N64 controller and for me that's the only way to play it. It's probably nostalgia, but I gave it a try on XBox and just couldn't get into it, it feels wrong on that pad
Plenty coming out this year already, so I'm not terribly upset. That said, the back end of the is currently looking a little light. Personally, I could see each of the big exclusives from the main 3 - God of War, Starfield and Breath of the wild 2 all slipping into 2023
@JudaiMasters fair point, especially as as the PS5 and the series X at least are far more expensive than the PS4/Xone were at launch. I just meant for those in the priveledged position to get all 3, this gen makes more sense than previous gens
Personally, I could see Sony making a play for From Software. They've worked closely together in the past, already own a couple of percent, and have been shown to go for the somewhat smaller but still proclific and bankable studios (not that FromSoft are small by any means, but they aren't Activision level, which I really couldn't see Sony going for). Plus, FromSoft seem a little unsettled so far as publishers go, bouncing from Bandai Namco, Activision and Sony. If it meant a Bloodborne 2, then happy days.
I also wouldn't be massively shocked to see them go after Remedy or even Konami. Although by and large, I'd rather they didn't (unless it gets Konami actually making games again)
Honestly though, it really feels that this gen more than any previous the way to go is to own all 3 systems (or a switch and a PC). This is the first time in my life I own all the major systems, and I'm glad I made that decision
Can't wait, but I want to get this on Xbox (as I'll be using the PS5 for Horizon and I like to have something on each), but early signs seem like the PS5 will have the edge on load times. Really hope the final release will be bit more even than the beta tests suggest

Best announcement of the show for me
Re: Pick One: Which Is Your Favourite Resident Evil Game On Xbox?
If you didn't say 4, you are wrong (although admittedly I only played it on the GameCube)

Re: Ubisoft+ Also Heading To PlayStation, Adding 50+ Games To PS Plus
Nice, EA and Ubisoft games tend to be ones I'd never buying myself and aren't fussed about day 1, so between Gamepass and PSPlus this has me sorted

Re: FIFA 22 Looks To Be Dropping On Xbox Game Pass Very Soon
XBox has become the console I play FIFA on, so I haven't even bothered picking it up on PS Plus as I assumed it would be on EA Play imminently
Re: Sony Still Blocking Games From Xbox Users On NVIDIA GeForce Now
@Sol4ris Sony do an awful lot of scummy things. But I really don't think you could argue this is one of them
Re: Reaction: Hogwarts Legacy Could Be The Biggest Game Of 2022
Meh, not really fussed about Potter. Will provably give it a go if it ends up on Gamepass or equivalent
Re: Talking Point: How Many Games Have You Bought In 2022 So Far?
5 or 6, depending - Elden Ring twice (for PS5 and XSX - don't judge me, I have my reasons!), Sifu, Kena, Uncharted and Horizon

Those cheeky lying toe-rags!

Re: Don't Worry, Hogwarts Legacy Is Still Coming To Xbox Consoles
@awp69 That's a fairly big caveat to be fair, I'd venture the proportion of those with VRR capable screens are in a minority
Re: Xbox Series X|S Outsells PS5 Across Europe In February
@Tharsman it does seem to me that making judgements on which consoles do better is irrelevant until both are readily available

@blinx01 tbf I think last night's State of Play could have had the subtitle "contractual obligations".
Re: Rumour: New Hogwarts Legacy Trailer Is Coming In March
Strong rumours pointing to a Sony State of Play this month, maybe even this week. So could see it there

Re: Pick One: Which Of These FromSoftware Games Is Your Favourite?
Bloodborne for sure (sorry Xbox only peeps!), but Dark Souls and Sekiro close behind. Yet to start Elden Ring though...

Bold of them to drop it in the midst of the busiest couple of weeks of the year! I'm keen to finally get into it, but it will have to wait

Dark Souls 2 on XSX, Sifu and Kena on PS5
