Re: Phil Spencer: Sony Wants To 'Make Xbox Smaller' To Protect PlayStation's Dominance

Moby

I came for the comment and was not disappointed! 😂

Sony isn't going anywhere, no matter how much the try to play the poor cousins. MS is looking past exclusives to the future of streaming. Meanwhile, Sony is desperate to hold onto their cash cow of "exclusives."

I want Sony and MS competing by offering better products and services, not by trying to hoard content. Competition is good for the gamers, aka us. MS being forced to make CoD cross platform for 10 years is all but a guarantee it will remain so. MS won't want to cut off a larger profit margin for the sake of the console war when GP is performing so spectacularly.

Sony has gotten used to coasting to success on exclusives. That ship is sailing fast. High profile gamers/Streamers talking smack about Xbox aren't putting games in front of players. Maybe now Sony can try to compete with a better console, platform, AND services. Currently, the consoles are all but identical in power and speed. MS is eating Sony's lunch in the subscription model.

I look forward to the day when we can play with whomever we want regardless of console.

Re: Talking Point: Do You Think Microsoft Will Be Able To Acquire Activision Blizzard?

Moby

I agree with the majority it will go thru. The US is a slam dunk. The UK might require some more restrictions, but only because the regulatory body has expressed their own personal bias in favor of Sony.

As long as MS agrees to let CoD stay on Sony indefinitely, they will give in. It's all pretty much grandstanding at this point to see how many concessions they can get. The Nintendo deal much sealed it.

Sony is in no danger of going out of business because of the loss of one franchise, no matter how popular. 🙄

Re: Sony Reveals Xbox Game Pass Has 29 Million Subscribers, Admits New PS Plus Tiers 'Substantially' Behind

Moby

Sony does NOT have more subscribers on their new subscription system. The numbers were for the old PS Plus which only gave you access to online play and other random perks. PS Now has become PS Plus to cloud that fact. Sony has begrudgingly admitted before they have a small amount of subscribers compared to GP.

Sony has been continuously aggressive at blocking anything that would allow MS to compete fairly, including paying Devs NOT to develop for MS. Now they are trying to play the "poor cousin". boohoo. They are desperate at this point. Maybe they should focus on being competitive and stop relying on exclusives.

Re: Gungrave G.O.R.E Receives Mixed Reviews Alongside Xbox Game Pass Launch

I love GP. I like that I can try a game without wasting a lot of money only to discover it's crap. The developer also gets exposure & feedback on how to make their games better for future. If ya don't like it, don't use it.

Considering I only play a fraction of the so called AAA titles, I couldn't give two sh*ts that it doesn't have only triple AAA games. Forgetting many developers were hit hard by covid and related restrictions, there are a plethora of games old and new to play with several big names on the horizon. And let's not forget the Activision purchase. Sony might drag it out, but it's probably going to happen.

On a related tangent, the PS Plus tier system is a mess and very aggravating. I had a coupon so signed up for Premium, I have about 6 months left and won't be renewing. Dollar for dollar GP is a better deal IMO.

Re: Remedy Officially Announces Control 2, Confirmed For Xbox Series X|S

Moby

I'm surprised it took this long for that to be known? The story line never really finished so I expected it to have a sequel. The game had a refreshing design implementation for a variety of powers that worked pretty seamlessly in the game. I was truly impressed It's one of my all time faves and have played it a few times end to end trying different variations of power ups. The shield was surprisingly powerful when maxed out and used on the offensive.

Re: Take-Two CEO Says It 'Doesn't Make Sense' To Launch Day One With Xbox Game Pass

Moby

GP's millions of subscribers would probably disagree.

To be fair, Take Two has a point from the narrow idea of only "selling" games. I'd argue they should clean their own house before pointing at others.

Brand recognition, loyalty, and even a broader customer base can and is encouraged by GP. Nothing pisses me off more than buying a "top" game and discovering it's crap. In GP, I might be willing to try a game form a dev that I felt burned by previously. Not so if I have to always buy the game. And the idea that cost is the sole decider of quality is so outdated as to be funny. As games go all digital, reviving or finding renewed life after release will be a lot harder for games moving forward. Selling for the sake of a sale may not be enough to keep companies in business in the future. I 've certainly discovered a plethora of games I'd never have purchased or even played without game pass. Some games I bought after they left GP because I wanted to keep playing them.

Frankly, when Take Two stops regurgitating content I might value their opinion more. Yeah, the idea of a profit driven model with no other considerations might not be the best choice for GP. Luckily for gamers, not every company agrees.

Re: Call Of Duty Will Be 'Restricted' On Xbox Game Pass, Confirms Microsoft

Moby

Sony will do everything in it's power to kill cross console play. They're primary selling point has always been console exclusives. CoD on GP threatens their dominance. Granted MS helped them on the PS4 by botching the XOne release so spectacularly.

I honestly hope the MS does not make it exclusive later. I'd hate to see Sony turn around and make Destiny an exclusive

Competition keeps both sides in check and if exclusives die off, they will have to compete on actual services/consoles.

Re: Talking Point: What Are Your First Impressions Of The Xbox Series X|S?

Moby

I'll never understand why people blame download speeds on their console. Unless you tinkered with the settings, it's usually your internet, not the console. (Note, it will go super slow while playing games. Close your active game and it should jump in speed. If not, pause and restart the download.)

Overall, I'm loving it! It isn't as large as they made it seem but it does sort of look like a big black brick. Turned on it's side it still fits neatly in my entertainment center. It is very quiet too.

I tried to test as many promised features as I could and so far it 'effin delivers! I'd say it's their best console ever. The quick save feature is pretty automatic and really works. One game I paused in the middle of a cut screen and it picked up right where it left off when I came back. Games like Destiny, where you connect to game servers obviously can't quick save. I saved 5 games and it nailed each one on the resume. (If you play Control, the notoriously long load screens are easily cut to a third of the time.)

My TV doesn't support 120fps but it does support 4K and HDR at 60fps. Out of the box, the (dreaded) console update was small and didn't long at all. The calibration tool asked to run and I said yes as part of the setup. I downloaded D2 in about 20 mins and was off playing the new DLC. The smoothness was noticeable and the "in between worlds" load screens were super fast, like 15 seconds fast. lol Gone are my days of running off the the bathroom for a quick break between screen loads.

I think my favorite part is the ray tracing for old games. I loaded up Prototype and it made the game look and feel newer with all the extra definition. Hitman II looks stunning! I tend to replay some of my favorite games and they all worked flawlessly.

If you are on the fence, don't be. All of the small but noticeable upgrades are worth it IMO. AND, you get an actual terabyte of storage, not what's left over after the OS install.
