Part of me loves the shield. It's definitely more offensive than defensive. However, the game is clearly designed to require the use of the shield. You cant just hack and shoot to survive.
Part of me doesn't like it as it doesn't "feel" very Doom. Maybe thats my nostalgia kicking in. You definitely cannot progress well without using the shield often.
The game feels like a cross between Darksiders and Doom. It still has the Doom feel and style. The music is enjoyable. The story so far seems to be a confusing mess. It's the "dark ages" but the level of technology isn't dark ages at all. Lol. My only real complaint is the weapon wheel is sluggish for fast pace game play, but it auto switches if you run out of ammo for a particular weapon.
It's still very fun, if you are a Doom fan. I'll definitely keep playing. I'm having a blast playing it.
More devs every day are realizing exclusives won't pay the bills anymore. Economics and greed are the death knell for exclusives. Oh we'll still see exclusives for awhile yet, but MS is playing the long game and it's working.
Have the switch 1, but honestly barely play it. The primary hurdle obviously was different ecosystems and I've already built years into an Xbox library. A few stellar games made it a worthwhile purchase but I'm not really interested at them moment, considering I have the OLED Steamdeck. It looks like a solid upgrade though. My spouse is big into Nintendo and got it on preorder.
MS might have screwed the pooch with the XOne debacle, but they've seen the light. Being in a position to buy some market share didn't hurt, but all their efforts are paying off. They realized traditional consoles are moving toward a niche market and adapted.
However, I'm eager to see the next console in production and their in house portable. The Surface team could be instrumental in creating a solid portable experience.
I like the Titanfall franchise but so was not interested in an extraction shooter version. Sad to see folks losing their jobs but maybe cancelling this game was a good decision.
It's always sad seeing writer's interject bias in their articles. 😓
I have purchased so many games because of GP than I ever would have on my own. It doesn't work for everyone, but it it does work for many. As game prices continue to increase solely to pay investors, I think we'll see more SaaSs not less. Who cars if it's the primary methods or not. Having a choice is always better than no choice at all.
Yeah, I'm probably going to skip the S2. I already done with the whole Mario franchise. They keepilkikg it for all its worth. 😂
I might end up getting it later but the cost isn't worth it, as I play my current Switch the least of all my gaming systems. I'm more excited to see MS's own portable next year than anything else so far.
Until then I'll stick with Steam and Nvidia for my portable needs.
Rumor has it this is the last update, other than fixes, as they transition to their new project. I still play NMS just for relaxing fun. Totally excited to see this new update. Even though it's always on GP, I bought the game. I'll buy their new one even if I don't play it much out pure admiration for coming so far with what has become an amazing game.
I love and hate GP. I love having access to games I'd never buy up front. The bad news for my wallet, I've quadrupled my game library because of GP! 🤣
@Elbow MS loses money on every console sold. This is true for Sony at first but over time they shift towards profit because of total sales.
MS make MORE money when you "buy" all your games regardless of platforms. While they have several reasons to keep making hardware, the money is in software aka games.
MS is moving the pieces into place to gain back the market share (and fans) they lost due to the disastrous XOne release. While I doubt anyone thinks they are doing this to be magnanimous, they are still making good moves for gaming and gaming future.
I have so many games it would be unrealistic to think any console could store them all. I'm currently rocking 3 TB total and haven't needed to upgrade again...yet.
I have room for games I'm always playing, games I like to play, and games I'm going to play. I'm fortunate to live in an area where I have gigabit internet so redownloading isn't a struggle.
Out of habit, I uninstall games I don't finish (because I didn't like) and games I finish (and unlikely to play again).
I'm happy to see it in the works, but the devil is in the details. I have hopes they are leveraging their Surface experience to bring a truly native handheld to market.
I see the usual trolls are here talking sh*t. 😂
MS knows it's cannibalizing it's hardware in favor of software. Considering they lose money on console sales, they are eager to push traditional consoles into a niche market.
The gaming world is evolving away from consoles as the center of gaming. And yet, MS has already committed to the next gen console hardware (and hopefully a portable) while continuing to expand access to GP and your game library. It's a win win for gamers and MS making bank.
WHAT!!??!!?? Do mine ears deceive me? MS is indeed working on it's next gen console?! Now maybe some of the "fans" here can shut up with their "the world is ending" complaint on the uncertainty of future consoles.
I'll be in line to get mine for sure. I've always had both but I may not actually buy a PS next time. God of War is not really GoW anymore. I could probably just skip the PS and play any new Ratchet & Clank on Nvidia. No real reason to have both anymore.
@Neither_scene MS already has an agreement with Nvidia. You can stream your game library (that supports streaming) and GP thru NVIDIA.
MS could knock it out of the park if done right. It would need to play your game library locally, support streaming, and have a decent battery life. The devil is in the details for sure.
People forget the previous rumor about Surface staff being reassigned to the Xbox division. I remember thinking how carefully worded MS's was to that rumor. The surface is a solid portable PC and could definitely be leveraged towards a portable console! Again, if done well it could give Steam a run for it's money, especially from folks with large libraries of purchased xbox games.
MS no longer counts console sales as their successful metric. MS always sold consoles at a loss so it may seem like they've given up on consoles but it's not that simple. They are likely to keep their hardware while focusing on game "access". They know consoles are fast becoming a niche market for hardened gamers. MS will keep stacking the chips in their favor to make money by moving beyond console. It's pretty simple, really.
MS will make more off gamers who don't buy the Xbox, while continuing to attract a broader market to enhance sales. The APK buyout gave MS a huge leg up in the mobile market, one of their weakest areas.
The "fans" are upset because MS has the temerity to grow their brand beyond the simple idea of console gaming.
I think it appeals to people it needs to reach. MS knows it lost the console war, but fortunately for them the console war is fast becoming irrelevant. Sony is slowly moving it's library to PC and 3rd party devs are moving away from exclusives, especially for big and/or multiplayer games.
MS doesn't care if you buy the next gen PS instead of Xbox because they'll make more money off of you. I am glad they continue to make hardware. I'm especially excited for the native portable! With all the work on the surface, it could be a big hit.
Money talks. Sony has realized their walled garden approach is a diminishing return. Big name multiplayer games are becoming too expetto not be cross play. We seeing fewer exclusives already. This article is a well placed troll to all the "world is ending" comments yesterday about MS ending exclusives. 🤣😂
Exclusives are dying contrary to all the "moral hand-wringing". Sony has been trickling out more and more games to PC for a couple years now. Private devs are realizing the short term gain isn't worth it for an exclusive, especially for big titles or multiplayer.
Meanwhile, Xbox play anywhere is expanding and will encourage more players thru simple economics. Those of us who aren't worried about egos will continue to enjoy more ways to access our favorite games.
To all those talking about quitting...bye. MS isn't losing sleep over threats not to buy their console. (The same console they lose money on)
I honestly feel like PX puts out these articles just to stir the pot. Lol. All the boohoo'ing over exclusives dying. 🙄🙄🙄
BTW, stop announcing your departure and just go. No one cares, least of all MS.
For the folks in the back, MS ACTUALLY MAKES MORE MONEY IF YOU DON'T BUY THEIR CONSOLE BUT END UP BUYING THEIR GAMES.
Stand alone consoles themselves are dying. We're likely to see one more generation, before they become hybrid portables. MS is making money hand over fist and doesn't care if you fork over money for a PS instead of an Xbox. They care that you either sign up for GP or buy their games outright.
MS is shifting to compete with Nvidia, Steam, and Nintendo. They don't care about Sony anymore.
People are forgetting the rumor early this year that MS had reassigned some of the Surface team to the Xbox division. MS's response at the time seemed very carefully worded, which left me thinking there was a kernel of truth to it. Leveraging their mobile PC division to help with a portable Xbox is a fantastic idea.
I'm sort of using power saving indirectly. The TV for the Xbox is mostly dedicated to the console, so I have it setup to shut off when the TV shuts off.
Here, let me hide my shocked face. /sarcasm. No one cares.
And it won't be up to Sony for long, except for the own IP. The cost to develop and deploy live and multiplayer games is becoming too expensive to be limited to.just one console player base. We're likely to see Devs only agree to exclusives for the highest performing franchises.
We're already seeing Sony push more games to PC. This was just a PR stunt. 😂
