Re: No Man's Sky Brings Its 'Orbital' Update To Xbox Game Pass

Moby

I'm still playing this game and it doesn't get better than this. The devs have totally built back any trust they lost in the beginning.

This is still one of my go-to games. It's easy to pick up where you left off and they keep packing in more and more things to do. Some items, like base building or recipe hunting, can consume hours alone if you wish, others you do once and done. Either way I'm shocked they keep offering free upgrades. I'm hearing the game development is actually nearing its end but I'm still happy to log in for expeditions and these new perks have been long long awaited!

Re: Major Game Maker Reportedly Questioning Xbox Support Amidst 'Falling Sales'

Moby

People have been losing their sh*t for easily a decade over the console wars. Microsoft is moving to end that by making gaming everywhere a reality and now the "fans" are losing it again. 🙄🙄🙄

MS will continue to make consoles and Devs talk smack anytime any game doesn't do well. MS is building a coalition of Gamers thru GP and cloud. Said service currently quadruples Sony's sad PSN service. If you wanna shoot yourself in the foot over a short term loss as a dev, I say go for it. With publishers raising game sales prices purely out of greed every chance they get, the cheaper, play anywhere service starts looking more attractive all the time.

Y'all throwing a tantrum over a rumor that doesn't even listen the devs by name. When the big players walk away from Xbox, be worried. When some podcast bro puts out a rumor with no names, ignore it. You'd think the tiktok generation would have figured that out by now.

Re: Rumour: Microsoft Is Apparently Prototyping Xbox Handheld Hardware

Moby

There are several directions they could go but let's hope they learned from Steam's 1st gen mistakes. A fully portable would need a significant battery, so let's hope that's a given in the design. (The irony of the previous rumors regarding the Surface team being reassigned to Xbox isn't lost on me.)

I'm truly curious to see how far they are willing to go. A portable with docking could technically eat into console sales. That being said, MS is already pushing past the idea of needing consoles so could also be a moot point. With MS also working on making game libraries available for streaming as well as GP games, it could also forgo the need for fastest chips, which would save on battery and costs. The console could offer the best options but a portable would be an ok compromise for many.

I have a Steam OLED with access to GP, but Im only half there in relation to game access. An Xbox portable with access to Steam would truly be the best of both worlds IMO.

Re: Talking Point: Do You Make Use Of Cloud Gaming On Xbox Game Pass?

Moby

I use it off and on, more so since I got a steam deck. It has improved since it's inception. Streaming seems smoother more often on various connections.

There was a period last year where there was a wait time to get online that would sometimes peak near 10-15 mins. Honestly, I wouldn't wait. Maybe I'm spoiled but I found it insulting considering how much they hype the service.. Lately, I haven't seen much delay in getting online at various times so maybe it was a temporary issue.

I can usually stream No Man's Sky with very little lag on a moderate connection. On a good connection it's barely noticable. For fast paced quick moving FPs it's probably not a good choice, for everything else it's good.

Re: Remedy Purchases Full Rights To 'Control' Franchise From 505 Games

Moby

Control Is one of my top games. They did an excellent job blending a rather large skill tree with the controller. The story is unique, interesting, and has potential for various spin offs or continued story.

I was sorely disappointed with AW II. The whole storyboard nonsense was so annoying I finally just stopped playing. Let us hope they don't screw up Control II.

Re: Xbox Might Be Looking Into A Handheld Console As PlayStation Rumours Circulate

Moby

@Banjo- I like the Surface, but MS has roughly 4% of the tablet market. I wouldn't call that a success. In shareholders meetings, they've admitted to "scaling back" on Surface production to "meet" demand.

Im not kicking MS, but they've always done software better than hardware. And their hardware seems focused on back end more than everyday consumers. As they push to make GP available everywhere, streaming definitely seems to be their long term focus. Adding a large dedicated hardware division to manage a portable in house doesn't seem logical.

But...it's all conjecture at this point. 👍😉

Re: Xbox Might Be Looking Into A Handheld Console As PlayStation Rumours Circulate

Moby

I'd love a native Xbox portable, but the devil is in the details. Devs would need to be assured they don't have to produce yet another version of every game to work with the portable. I honestly think this is one of many reasons why Sony abandoned its original portable.

And I worry based on the mostly failed Surface, how well MS would succeed producing it internally. They basically tried to make the Surface a portable PC vs a tablet. It ended up being prohibitively expensive for many and has floundered in the market. I fear the new MS portable would end up the same way.

Sadly, I think streaming is the only successful option for the immediate future. They need to bring more portability to GP.

They could work with devs and Sony to set minimum portable hardware standards, but that is even more unlikely.

Re: Talking Point: Do You Think Xbox Will Ever Stop Making Consoles?

Moby

Internet would need to be more readily available at faster speeds. The GForce app is a solid look at what MS could become. They would need to reduce wait times to get online for sure. Even now there can be significant delays getting an xCloud game running during peak hours.

I doubt they'll try to go software only for the immediate future though. Sony isn't likey to let MS eat at their PSNow revenue stream by allowing GP on the PS.

Re: A Bunch Of Xbox Games Are Closing Their Servers In 2024

Moby

I try to avoid Ubisoft in general but luckily I have none of these games.

I guess I don't understand why devs don't patch out the online items so games with solo content can continue to be enjoyed? I get the desire to "encourage" players to move on the newer games, but if you're always pissing off the same players they tend to shop elsewhere.

Re: Redfall Fans Show Off Their 100+ Hour Playtimes On Xbox In 2023

Moby

I never understood the hate for this game. Sure it was buggy at release but what game isn't these days. I think they over sold it. It came out right as we were exiting the more severe COVID drama as well. I think expectations were too high TBH.

I've definitely spent well over 100 hours on it. I played solo on GP. It felt like a XOne game carried over to the XSX, but it was oddly engaging and kept my interest the whole time.

The game had its issues, but the devs have definitely made it better. Its worth playing IMO. I'm sporadically replaying on hard mode again. The patches keep tackling glitches, issues with in game spawns, etc. Get in on GP or on sale and I doubt you'll regret it.

Re: Bungie's Independence Reportedly Under Threat After Layoffs & Destiny 2 Expansion Delay

Moby

I guess I'm in the minority thinking Sony taking control might be a good thing. Bungie seems to be continually losing talent and making bad decisions. Maybe Sony needs to take over and get things back in order. They definitely spent a lot of money for the IP.

They could also cut off their nose to spite their face, but they really need their big multiplayer games to be cross platform. Time will tell.

I honestly barely play Destiny 2 anymore. The seasons are just a grind and no amount of new story will change that without new content. I'll probably buy the last dlc, mostly to get closure on 1000s of hours of playtime, and to see the end of the storyline. I'm pretty much done with Bungie after that. I don't trust them enough to invest in their new multiplayer games.

Re: Xbox Account Syncing Update Begins Rolling Out On Nvidia GeForce Now

Moby

I've actually tried the lowest paid tier of GNow and it's good. The lag is all but nonexistent. I'm sure on the higher tier it's probably not even noticable. Not t having a PC, it gives me access to games on GPU that I can't currently play on console.

Also GNow is supported on more TVs, especially older models, than the Xbox app.

Re: Alan Wake 2 Seemingly Struggled To Make An Impact On Xbox In October

Moby

I bought it and l still playing, but I'm a bit disappointed. The "mind rooms" are annoying as hell and completely ruin the flow of the game. I like the style and progression but it feels more RPG and less FPS now. The first one had a great balance between the two and just seemed to flow better. I'm loving the story progression but kind of wished if waited for GP.

Re: Xbox Users Left Disappointed As Microsoft Rewards Suffers Another Big Setback

Moby

I know Im supposed to care but I don't. It seemed overly generous and from the comments I guess I wasn't far off. The occasional free Starbucks card was nice but never something I strived for.

They are probably phasing it out form abuse or just feel it no longer adds value to the system. On a couple other forums the teeth-gnashing was epic. "I'm going to quit Xbox now.." or "Xbox just lost a customer..". Gurl, bye. Seriously. 😂

Re: EA CEO: 'Microsoft & Activision Is A Great Thing For Our Industry'

Moby

Me thinks EA is wishing MS had bought them instead. While i think regulators would definitely block it, EA would be a good fit under MS. They would move to a close 2nd behind Sony and really put the heat on Sony to be more competitive. IMO EA is more likely to merge with Ubisoft before being acquired by Sony or MS. The latter I definitely feel would be bad for gamers though.
