I would love a reboot but not necessarily like God Of War. While the new version of God of War was fine as a stand alone game, it was nothing like the original games. I only bought the PS5 for God of War and was so incredibly disappointed. The ridiculous introduction of a child character as a side kick was dreadful and completely ruined the entire feel of the game. Don't even get me started on the axe. I never regretted buying a game so much. I doubt I'll ever buy another God of War game based on its current "reboot."
A Gears reboot would need to focus on the core of the original 3 games and go back to it's roots. There are so many directions they could take to continue the main story. While I tend to loathe prequels, a prequel could easily be a nice addition to the franchise in this scenario. Get rid of the silly bot upgrades and get back to the hardcore scare, gore, and killing.
All of the companies potentially up for getting banned can avoid the ban by completing the license process to avoid it. Why is MS the bad guy for enforcing it's existing policies for devices that claim to be "Xbox compatible?"
You should be asking why your 3rd party accessory maker is trying to avoid doing the right thing to ensure their products are guaranteed to work properly.
If your 3rd party accessory maker claims it's Xbox compatible then they just need to pay the licensing fee. These aren't low dollar companies.
It was clarified they are mostly going after 3rd party's claiming to be compatible without going thru the process to confirm that. Legit accessories will most likey end up getting on the white list.
The subscription numbers tell it all. GP is going gangbusters compared to PSP. And considering MS is #3 in market share, you'd expect PSP to easily have surpassed or at least be even with GP in subscriptions. They aren't even close.
Sony is still primarily focused on trying to squeeze as much money out of exclusives as they can. They spend a sh*t ton for exclusives, which would take longer to recoup on PSP. Having both consoles, I still end up on Xbox more often.
MS appears to be making many of their newly acquired solo player games exclusives and keeping many of the multi players cross platform. While I hate exclusives, it certainly edges GP that much further ahead.
I'm working thru the first one and oddly there have been a couple times where audio cut out. Funny that it has carried over to the 2nd one. I was going to wait for AW2 on GP, but hearing so many good reviews has me reconsidering.
I don't ever remembering MS offerongy this as a feature. I do remember reading about it but none of the official announcements mentioned it. Or did I miss that? I dunno, to me FPS seems like a bigger focus. Also, wondering if HDR had any impact on their plans to push it forward....
Some of y'all need to learn to ignore the trolls...lol
I doubt it will be a No Man's Sky redemption story but I'd definitely come back for more updates or DLCs that continue to improve the game. I'm still going strong with NMS and I originally just put it down and walked away at the release. GP changes the playing field for the success of games in the long term.
I think it's obvious he would say this fresh on the heals of the merger closing. Duh.
He definitely knows having future CoD games will sell more consoles, but console sales are no longer the primary focus for MS IMO. Streaming is the future and MS has seen the writing on the wall. GP will become the focus and he's already dropping hints about trying to get GP on as many screens as possible, including PS consoles. (Imagine for a moment, a future where there is no console battle. You buy a PS console, but play mostly GP games on it. 😂)
Nvidia could have become a much bigger competitor, but MS is already bringing GP to their platform. I'm guessing we'll see maybe two more console generations before they are obsolete. MS will continue to beef up it's streaming catalog and I'm betting they'll start offering similar back end services like Nvidia to guarantee fast streaming and lower lag.
My guess, MS will continue to lock down solo player games as exclusives, while allowing multiplayer games to be more cross platform.
This article is timely. I've been replaying the entire Gears franchise myself. I just finished off 4 two nights ago. I never thought of the game as a horror game but it would be cool if they went that way. Five was good in its own way but it's starting to add a bunch of unnecessary "upgrades" that just end up being annoying. I too want them to get back to their roots. I hear rumors they have 1 more in the works before moving on to a new game.
My 1st one did, but much later after the issue was well known. The 2nd never one did, presumably it was from a batch that didn't have the defect. I sold both and they were still going strong.
MS made it so easy to send in and get a repair. I had my replacement in just over a week. They actually sent me a different one as a replacement. I remember there being a mild scandal as two of their distribution sites were inadvertently sending out new replacements with the same glitch that hadn't been repaired yet.
I've been replaying since the patch and the AI is definitely better. It could still use some work but definitely better than before. (Less respawns right on top of a enemy or in the middle of a fight.) The randomness of enemy spawns missing in the original release seems better as well.
Overall, it's a solid patch and if you liked it before but were frustrated, i recommend trying it again.
The 60fps helped as well. I'm close to finishing the hard mode which can be quite challenging at times when you're in lairs.
@JokerBoy422 I am not sure what you're referring to but I still have game captures on my XSZx console from day one. If I go into the cloud I see stuff from years ago but I don't care or want those anyway so it's not going to bother me if they get deleted. But all of my captures seem to be present on my hard drive on my Xbox
I'm replaying on a harder mode so can't tell if the AI is being aggressive or just harder because of the settings. Either way I like it. I found the game too easy on normal mode. The game has come along way since release.
The annoying "always online" is still there though.
The bugs aside from launch, after patch 2 the game was quite fun. I played all the way thru and thoroughly enjoyed it. I wasn't a fan of the "art" style graphics but it was surprisingly entertaining.
I look forward to going back thru on hard mode now.
I uninstalled as soon as it required an additional account setup to use. I won't be playing as long as that's a requirement for a solo player like myself.
@NeoRatt I honestly don't get all the hate for Redfall. Yes, it has some bugs but no more than many other big games in the past. It was a legacy game from the XOne brought forward for the X/S. If you remember that then the game only mildly disappoints in key areas.
After the initial patches, I found it quite fun and even played thru a second time on hard mode. The constant attempt to make it a co-op game was the most annoying part for me. There were other little nitpicks I didn't cae for but overall I found the game enjoyable to play. I think how it was sold and the hype was what sank it TBH. The promises were vague and lacking.
I think we all knew it was when not if. I was a bit disappointed to hear CoD wouldn't come to GP until 2024, but I only play campaign so I can wait.
Glad this mess is finally almost over. While I'm not a fan of mergers, this was almost necessary for MS. They lost a lot of market share due to the disastrous XOne release and they needed to get it back. As many have already pointed out, having multiple big players competing against each other is much better than only one.
If you've used Nvidia's GeForce app for game streaming (not the free tier), you'll know streaming can work, even for fast paced games. I was shocked the first few times I streamed Destiny 2. The lag was so barely noticable as to be non-existent. Far better than even Stadia, when it existed. Granted even that very small lag would still be relevant for some high level PvP games, but streaming is the future.
None of this should really be a surprise. Stadia was the future too soon. MS paid attention and is moving quickly to leave Sony in the past. The biggest hurdle will be broadband availability. The US has terrible broadband coverage. It's getting better but slower than it should. One can hope as cable dies a slow death, they finally wise up and expand broadband faster.
While I tend to dislike exclusives in general, it's been said a few times by myself and others, moving forward it shouldn't surprise anyone that the single player games end up being exclusives and the multi players end up being non exclusive.
I don't really mind after the ridiculously childish antics of Sony as of late. They kind of deserve it, but exclusives are just bad for gamers IMO.
Slightly OT: I'm much more interested in the idea of the larger category of PC only games coming to Xbox via Xcloud. MS keeps teasing but it seems like it's in the works now vs just "a plan".
They've been busy milking the existing player base of every dime they have. I'm betting the new one will have a short campaign and just merge with the existing online service.
I wanted Starfield to be more action adventure like NMS, but it's solidly an RPG with a little action adventure mixed in. While the game is beautiful, I've already uninstalled Starfield. I'm just not an RPG guy.
Oddly, I still play NMS. I try to hit every expedition and run thru the new DLCs. It's easy to just pick up and start playing. I'm liking a lot of the new content.
Part of me likes the idea of MS screwing Sony as hard as Sony screwed MS, but I tend to agree with @themightyant. They'll most likely lock up the single player games.
I do hope they keep most multiplayer games cross platform. Exclusives are bad for gamers.
It's smart to remind folks games aren't necessarily going to drop on GP day one of the merger. MW is my favorite variant of CoD so I am looking forward to it arriving on GP.
NMS should be the gold standard for devs to follow on how to treat your fan base. It started rough (boy did it ever), but has continued to not only improve but also release a plethora of FREE DLCs, on top of the free Expeditions.
Don't be afraid to jump in. The game parses out quests. Some overlap but others don't start until your further along in tht game. If you check your "Log" menu you can switch between any active quest. Not to mention there are several layers to the game you can spend hours developing completely unrelated to quests.
If you havent purchased any additional 360 games by now, you obviously weren't going to, all the excuses notwithstanding.
