I wonder if Sega could be one of the companies being bought? They’ve been splitting off certain divisions and getting out of the arcade business lately, which might indicate preparations to be bought out by a company that doesn’t want those parts of the business.
While GoldenEye does have some twin-stick control schemes (by plugging two N64 controllers in) I always preferred to play it with the default control scheme, but that’s horrid on modern controllers as they always map the N64’s C-buttons to the right analogue stick and it’s always horrid to use.
I’ll probably buy this just from curiosity but I’ll likely just carry on playing GoldenEye on the N64 as it’s perfect on there.
@Arcnail Definitely. Depending on the age of the kids there could be tears on Christmas Day if the console is broken and you don’t find out until they open it on the day. Of course if it’s a Series X or PS5, the store may not have a replacement available. 🙁
I wonder if they’re using the Legendary Edition engine as a starting point? That could certainly help to maintain the feel and look established by the trilogy, although I wouldn’t mind if they kept Andromeda’s jet pack.
I could see this being worth it if it's like the Wii U gamepad and has some sort of low latency direct connection to the Series X/S so you can carry on playing when someone wants to use the TV.
But for streaming remotely, like others have already said, my phone can already do that and the latency is so high that most games are unpleasant and awkward to play.
I thought maybe he was trying to create some artificial scarcity so he can sell them for big money on eBay, but there’s loads of them on there so it’s not that. He really is just a bit mad! 😂
This review seems pretty much spot on for me. I think FH4 is the best looking game I’ve ever seen and I had lots of fun playing it, but it definitely had flaws that really needed to be addressed.
I might have been down for another Horizon if they’d innovated more or had set it in Japan, but FH5’s location just doesn’t really excite me. Pretty much every screenshot I’ve seen has been brown. At least FH4’s seasons ensured it never looked samey. Ah well, maybe the next one will be better.
I genuinely like them to continue what they started with Blacklist, with its Mass Effect-lite structure where the game was more open ended rather than being a straight path from start to finish. I also really liked the team they assembled on the plane that you could interact with between missions.
The stealth gameplay and unlockable equipment was also very good, you could even properly ghost a level. I really liked that there were options to go in more heavy handed or even all guns blazing too. So, yeah I’d really like another one like Blacklist.
@LtSarge Saint’s Row only really got good from the second one onwards. The first one was a bit too much of a straight San Andreas clone with little of its own identity. It was also riddled with bugs at launch. The second one is where the series started to embrace the craziness more and developed its own unique style.
Easily the second game. The first was hilariously buggy but pretty good fun anyway. The second really perfected the formula, fixing the bugs and performance issues of the first while adding a whole slew of great new features.
Part three wasn’t bad, but the story was utterly incoherent, half the missions were locked behind DLC and it was much lighter on content compared to SR2. It was like they just took the side missions from SR2 and made them the main missions and didn’t include any of the main missions, making the game much smaller.
It was missing some of the funnier side missions from SR2 as well, like driving a sewerage truck to spray sewage all over buildings to reduce their value for a real estate developer. Or the bodyguard missions where you’d protect the celebrity by throwing obsessed fans into the helicopter blades or off the top of the building.
SR3 was also the start of the SR games being over the top all the time. The more grounded style of SR2 meant the over the top stuff in SR2 was that much funnier thanks to the contrast.
Just gave this a try on my iPad with an Xbox controller and it works really well. There doesn’t seem to be any sound and the picture was a bit squashed (I assume it’s been framed for 16:9) but it ran at full speed and even after a refresh my save had been kept. Definitely worth bookmarking if you’re ever in need of a quick game of Mario 64.
I would be very happy with just a Wii U-style controller for the Xbox. Basically a low-lag screen with sticks and buttons to carry on playing on the Xbox when the family wants to use the TV to watch something else. That’s mostly how I used the Wii U back in the day.
I don’t really want an internet streaming device as that’s fairly easy to do with any old phone and Bluetooth controller and from what I’ve experienced of game streaming it’s always been too laggy for me to enjoy it.
I didn't realise it was running Linux. How many games out of the average Steam library will be compatible with it? I've got loads of old games I'd want to play, but I'd bet most wouldn't be compatible.
@Royalblues I totally agree, gyro aiming on the Switch (when done right) is absolutely brilliant. I actually waited for Doom Eternal on the Switch purely because I find the gyro aiming so satisfying.
I really hope the Xbox controller gets updated with a gyro module because if developers start implementing gyro aiming on the PS5 it’s going to make multi-platform shooters much more attractive on there. That said, developers seem to be completely oblivious to the fact that Sony’s last three controllers have had a gyroscope module, even though they often implement gyro aiming in the same game on the Switch!
It’s very understandable how they ended up with the Xbox One. They obviously looked at the usage stats of the 360 and saw huge amounts of Netflix usage and assumed everyone wanted a streaming box, when the reality is the majority probably just had Netflix on in the background when they weren’t playing games.
Likewise, they wanted a gimmick to distinguish themselves from Sony and Nintendo and thought the Kinect was the answer to that. But the extra cost of that meant a weaker GPU had to be used and Kinect just didn’t deliver the experience gamers wanted.
Plus there was that always-online debacle that really soured a lot of people on Microsoft for that gen. Plus don’t get me started on the stupidity of basically giving the console the same name as their first one.
They really have learned their lessons though, which I think started with the One X being such a powerhouse. Then with all their innovations this gen like quick resume, framerate boost, VRR, etc, they’ve made a strong start. The only thing I think they could have tried to be a bit more innovative on is the controller, as I think the DualSense has some great features.
I hope this happened some time after lunch today, as I was playing Horizon 4 on my iPad and the lag was terrible, and this was on a 200mbps connection too!
Personally I like City best with Asylum close behind it.
I wasn't that keen on Knight, it just felt off somehow, I think they changed writers which might explain it. Plus if they wanted to use the Joker again they shouldn't have killed him off in City. The lack of playable Catwoman didn't really help either, it actually made the game feel smaller than City in some ways.
@BlueOcean No, in fact quite a few people complain that they're too easy. Part of the beauty of IntiCreates retro games IMHO is they perfectly recreate the retro aesthetic and gameplay but with much more balanced difficulty and plenty of quality of life improvements.
Blaster Master Zero 1 & 2 are amongst my most played Switch games, and the third one is probably my most anticipated game for this year. It’s great this is coming to Xbox too.
When I saw the trailer, I thought it looked like Prometheus: The Videogame, and I mean that in a good way. Hopefully it will be as amazing as the potential of the concept suggests it can be.
Honestly, I felt Horizon 5 was a bit underwhelming. It looked good, but it didn’t feel any prettier than Horizon 4 and I didn’t see any evidence of the seasons changing like they would in 4. That said, it’s Mexico so the seasons are basically hot and hotter.
In fairness the video quality of the feed was really low, so maybe the actual game will look more impressive without compression ruining it.
I’m probably going to pass on this, they really needed to rework ME3’s story for me to come back. ME1 and 2 were so good that I just don’t want to put myself through the disappointment of ME3 again.
Hopefully Ninja Gaiden Black and Mirror’s Edge will be added soon. Although Ninja Gaiden might be a bit hard (well even harder than usual) with the streaming lag.
Definitely the first one. It still looks amazing today in 4K on my One X, it’s another example of good art direction being timeless. I also really liked the strange/real setting of the first game.

Interesting, it looks similar to the Halo Anniversary remake where it’s running new higher detail graphics over the top of the old engine. I love my Xbox consoles, but he’s not wrong. I still think Xbox One is an even worse name because we now have to write stupid stuff like OG Xbox when talking about the real Xbox 1.
As for Series S/X, it is somewhat annoying as before I could talk about the X and everyone would know I meant the Xbox One X. Now I have to make sure I write One X or Series X to be clear about what I mean. Even OX could be misinterpreted to mean Original Xbox. I know it’s only a bit of extra typing, it’s more the issue of having to be extra vigilant to make sure I’m being clear about what console I’m referring to.
Just calling the new consoles the Series Y and Z would have been fine I think. All this hassle just because Microsoft didn’t want the Xbox 2 on the market alongside the PlayStation 3...
Given the promising Star Wars games that were announced and then cancelled (1313 and Amy Hennig's game) it's probably best if these games are perhaps only announced when production is in full swing and management is comfortable that development is progressing smoothly enough that the game won't need to be cancelled.

I'm actually not sure, but 3-5 years sounds about right. Most 360 games I'd want to play are backwards compatible with my One X so I don't really need my 360 any more. That said, there are a few delisted games I'd like to be able to play so I might fire the good ol' 360 up over the weekend.
I use Enerloop rechargeable batteries in my Elite 1 controller, they don’t last too long but I always have a second pair ready to go, so flat batteries are never an issue. I can’t say I’ve experienced a single use of the touchpad on the PS4 controller that has convinced me it’s worth having. Most games just use it as an extra button.
Gyro on the Switch on the other hand is fantastic for shooters and it’s disappointing Microsoft didn’t add that to the controller for Series consoles. I waited for Doom Eternal on the Switch because I find the gyro aiming so much better than just regular analogue sticks on their own.
