@somnambulance It's not a you thing. It's just that these are fairly cheap to produce (comparatively), are making decent money for them, and are really the only place where retro-styled turn-based role-playing lives. So while they might look similar, and I get that impression is there (it's not a you thing), they're all pretty different in concept.
(There was also that World of Final Fantasy game, which I think was turn-based, but everyone has forgotten about it, and I never played that one!)
@somnambulance people say overdone but how is one game per year overdone? We get like 90 fps every year and a call of duty every year and heaps of generic garbage. I have yet to see a generic looking hd-2d game.
@Sindayl try Octopath 0. Not bland anymore! I liked Octopath 2, too, but it still has that weird disjointed thing where everyone travels together but has no involvement with each other til the end.
@Tasuki @somnambulance there are no mobile mechanics. It’s a full $50 game. It uses story and design elements from brave exvius. That’s it. Persistent internet rumors are not based on fact. Octopath 0 had more elements of its mobile game in it, far more, and it turned out great and has zero gatcha mechanics and no dlc.
I was super excited about it til I played the demo. It’s definitely more soulslike than Zelda like. Don’t get why absolutely everything has to be a soulslike anymore.
Great, more high-budget "AAA" expensive tech to suck all the money, creativity, and design out of everything and power a new generation of very attractive checklist games.
I’m all for game pass being modular. There’s a lot of stuff on there I don’t need, but I keep ultimate because of the parts I do want that premium doesn’t have.
@CaptnTedo I keep getting many sign in attempts to my Authenticator! Of course it never works because I’d need to tap the correct number for them, and I always tap deny… I asked MS support about it and they weren’t concerned
I am constantly getting notified by Microsoft Authenticator that someone is trying to log in to my account… like multiple times daily. I always tap deny. I should probably figure out how to get a passkey system going.
They sell physical games, so of course they’re against it. They aren’t aware of their own bias. Anyway, physical games are little more than game keys at this point…
@LeonR Sorry, I lost your comment somewhere. You had mentioned that there will be some hits and that the charts dictate it. That's kind of missing the point. Not every game needs to be a huge hit. Especially with games that have lower budgets, it's not necessary to ride the charts or sell millions of copies. That's not the barometer we should be using. And just because something doesn't top the charts doesn't mean it's trash. I'd rather have 100 indie games, of varying interest and quality, than one AAA checklist game that blows a huge budget on graphics and is exactly like everything else.
@CaptainCluck There is a wide gulf between "philanthropic organization" and "takes money for reviews". And there is a huge difference between actual journalism, and people on youtube who get sponsorships and payment for reviews. You might not agree with IGN's reviews, or with their money or corporate practices, but they are legitimate journalism and hire legitimate journalists to do their reviews. They make their money from clicks and views, not from the company giving them money, unlike many youtubers.
@LeonR what , more call of duty garbage instead? AAA means budget. It doesn’t mean quality. Their biggest game last year was expedition 33 which certainly wasn’t AAA.
A lot of whining over a game that’s $20 retail, available on game pass, and managed to really hit it off with some critics. This is like making a fuss every time a call of duty game gets a good review for doing the same thing year after year and costing a billion dollars and forcing thousands of employees into indentured servitude.
I was so looking forward to this game, but the demo was more souls like than it was Zelda when it came to combat. Why does everything have to be a soulslike now?
Wish they'd remove some other stuff from it too and drop the price some more. I don't want fortnite crap and whatever else. I probably don't even need Ubisoft or EA Play.
@Scrubchub That's probably how I should treat it too. For me, it's a list of games I want to play that are currently on there, plus what's coming, and I can't possibly play everything on the list anyway. That said, my mind immediately goes to: where did you get the cheap keys?? lol If I could get a few more months and kick the can, I would. I should have bought some $20 cards that were still lingering around, but I was used to being able to get a month for $12 the previous time I renewed! I play more games in Japanese these days, and have less time for Game Pass, so you'd think I'd just try letting it lapse for a while, but... nope.

Re: Six Games Are Confirmed For Xbox Game Pass In July 2026 So Far
Not sure I care about any of these. Oh well.
Re: 10+ Games That Have Been Revealed For Xbox Game Pass In 2027 Already
Vivarium looks interesting

Re: The First Review Is In For The Adventures Of Elliot: The Millennium Tales
Famitsu has gotten kind of weird over the last decade or two tho lol
Re: Here's A Look At The Updated Xbox Game Studios Roadmap From June 2026
It’s a good thing I’m not here for the first party games. Casually hopefully for clockwork, and curious about fable.
Re: Roundup: All The Biggest Xbox Reveals From June's Nintendo Direct
@RadioHedgeFund it’s not. It’s based on one, but it’s completely redone and zero gatcha. $50, pay once, similar to Octopath 0
Re: Poll: Which Was Your Favourite Gaming Event Of The Past Week?
@darylb24 you got it.
Re: Poll: Which Was Your Favourite Gaming Event Of The Past Week?
Nintendo direct was my favorite by far, Japanese stuff, and the best of it is all coming to xbox.
Re: Roundup: All The Xbox Games From The Latin American Showcase 2026
Deep Dish Dungeon might be interesting.
Oh that’s the game pass one! よかっただろう!
Re: Asha Sharma On Removing CoPilot For Xbox: 'Our Console Players Aren't Excited About It'
I was kind of curious to try it. The version that worked in the Xbox app was not great tho.
However the fact that she’d ditch something she believed in is… a good sign? Or wait.
Probably it was just crap, and this was a good opportunity to pretend to follow gamer wishes lol
Re: Five Games Are Leaving Xbox Game Pass In Early June 2026
Sad to see shredders revenge leave after all this time.
Isn’t Scott pilgrim on the Ubisoft classics thing that comes with game pass anyway?
Re: The Lost Wild Not Coming To Xbox At Launch, Along With A Few Other State Of Play Titles
I’m not sure it’s anything I care about. I do have a ps5; I just don’t turn it on very often… (no Microsoft rewards on ps5)
Re: Three Games Have Just Received Xbox Game Pass Release Dates For Next Month
Friendslop x3??
Re: The Outer Worlds Dev Alters Free Xbox & PS5 Upgrade Due To 'Platform Limitations'
I have the season pass but not the game, so what do I get? lol
Re: Two Games Are Available Today With Xbox Game Pass (May 27)
So is spacers choice on there for good, or is it on there for a year?
Re: Mina The Hollower Hits Xbox This Week, And It's Metacritic's 'Best Game' Of 2026 So Far
I was super excited about it til I played the demo. It’s definitely more soulslike than Zelda like. Don’t get why absolutely everything has to be a soulslike anymore.
Re: Two Major Announcements Revealed At Dragon Quest's 40th Anniversary Showcase
@Tasuki it was vaporware. They rebooted it. Be glad. It probably would have been a mess.
Re: Two Major Announcements Revealed At Dragon Quest's 40th Anniversary Showcase
I’m glad they rebooted dq12. Did not like the dark heavy action game route it was going. Final fantasy already went down that chocobo killing pit.
Re: Unreal Engine 6 Revealed By Epic Games, Will Likely Power Lots Of Project Helix Titles
@TrollOfWar excellent points

Re: PSA: Microsoft Is Removing SMS Authentication From Everyone's Xbox Account
@Banjo- Yeah I need to figure out how to do that. The sign-in attempts get annoying.

Re: Roundup: All The Biggest Xbox Reveals From The Warhammer Skulls Showcase 2026
They’re killing it. Very nice to see effort being put into an IP.
Re: Two Huge Free Demos Have Just Gone Live On Xbox This Week
Been looking forward to Elliott for ages. Nice to finally have a demo when the previous demo was switch 2 only!
Also love that demos can be sorted by newest added now. That was a nightmare briefly.
Re: These 13 Games Are Coming To Xbox Game Pass (May 20 - June 2)
@awp69 no.
Re: These 13 Games Are Coming To Xbox Game Pass (May 20 - June 2)
Man. I knew spacers choice would come to
Game pass as soon as I bought the dlc pack for the original version.
Re: Digital Foundry Labels Sony's PS5 Exclusivity Pivot As A 'Defensive Move Against Project Helix'
They must be time traveling then, because PlayStation had already slowed and then stopped its first party pc ports.
Their stuff is all American anymore anyway, with not much gameplay. At least Microsoft makes RPGs sometimes.

Re: Outbound Is Available Today With Xbox Game Pass, And Here's What The Reviews Are Saying
That’s a little disappointing. But I’m not much into crafting anyway. Somehow thought open world van life might sell it for me.

Re: Elite Dangerous Players Warn Of Downsides With Console Version On Xbox Game Pass
It’s also a $5 game most of the time, so it’s not that great of a value even if it was up to date as far as a game pass add.
Re: The Outer Worlds To Be Partially Delisted, Free 'Spacer's Choice Edition' For Those Affected
Well that’s annoying. I only have the dlc, not the actual game, since the game is on game pass and spacers choice isn’t.
Re: HyperX Unveils New 'Premium, Hot-Swappable' Wireless Xbox Controller
Also seems like most of the wireless ones are pc only which makes no sense
Re: HyperX Unveils New 'Premium, Hot-Swappable' Wireless Xbox Controller
They’re always so expensive. I’d love a good wireless controller, but I’m not paying $100+

Re: Microsoft Rewards Announces Major Changes For May 2026 Across Multiple Regions
@SmokeEmAll it’s not ideal, but I stil get $10-20 free per month…
Re: Microsoft Rewards Announces Major Changes For May 2026 Across Multiple Regions
I wonder if ultimate will still give more points than premium.
