There's some interesting stuff happening with The Outer Worlds in the near future, as it's just been announced that the game is getting partially delisted, with the Spacer's Choice Edition now becoming the main version of it.
It's a little bit confusing, so bare with us — the "base edition" of The Outer Worlds will be delisted on May 27th across "most store pages", but we think the Xbox Store version might survive, as it's mentioned that the only platforms not affected by this are Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch".
In any case, when the partial delisting takes place on May 27th, anyone who already owns the base version of The Outer Worlds will be treated to The Outer Worlds: Spacer's Choice Edition for free, with the Spacer's Choice Edition being a remastered version of The Outer Worlds that was released back in 2023.
Here's the full confirmation of this:
"Starting May 27th, the base game edition of The Outer Worlds will be delisted and the Spacer’s Choice Edition will be the single version of the game going forward. For those who already have the original version of the game in your libraries, it won’t be going anywhere. After May 27th, however, the only version of The Outer Worlds that will be available on most store pages will be the Spacer’s Choice Edition. The only platforms not affected by this are Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch.
But wait, there’s more! If you have at least the base edition of The Outer Worlds in your library before May 27th, you will be receiving the Spacer’s Choice Edition free. That’s right, free! This is for all platforms that the Spacer’s Choice Edition is on (Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Steam, Epic Games Store, GOG). After May 27th, The Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Edition will be available for $39.99."
So, as you can see here, they mention that Xbox One is one of the "only platforms not affected" by the delisting on May 27th, but considering how the Xbox One, Series X and Series S all share the same Microsoft Store, you should theoretically still be able to buy the Xbox One version after May 27th for all three consoles. Told you it's confusing!
Interestingly, they're also dropping the price of the Xbox One version after May 27th. The Outer Worlds will then retail for $24.99 on that console, with the DLCs reducing to $14.99. If you end up buying the Xbox One version and all its DLCs after the 27th, you'll automatically get a free upgrade to the Spacer's Choice Edition as well.
The biggest impact of all this will likely be to PC players who won't be able to purchase the base version of The Outer Worlds going forward, but for us here on Xbox, the main news here is the free upgrade to the Spacer's Choice Edition!
