Back at the start of this month, it was announced that if you owned The Outer Worlds on Xbox One, you'd be getting a free upgrade to the Spacer's Choice Edition of the game by May 27th as part of the OG version's partial delisting.
However, that's now changed. Obsidian says that "unforeseen platform limitations" have caused issues for Xbox and PlayStation, with those two platforms now only getting free upgrades if you own the game's two DLCs as well.
Here's a look at the confirmation:
"Due to platform limitations with entitlements, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 players that own the game digitally will need to own the base game along with both DLCs (Peril on Gorgon and Murder on Eridanos) to be eligible for the free upgrade."
Fortunately, there is some good news here as well. Obsidian is looking into potential upgrade paths for physical owners of The Outer Worlds on Xbox One and PS4, although they're still only "investigating" the possibility for now, while the Spacer's Choice Edition is also now available as part of Xbox Game Pass as of yesterday.
There's understandably been disgruntlement over the terms of the free upgrade being altered though, and it remains to be seen if they'll find a solution that doesn't require both DLCs in the future. We'll keep an eye on it and let you know if anything changes — perhaps Team Xbox could step in and work some magic on their end? Let's hope so.
