Today, the folks behind the Dragon Quest series treated us to a special 40th anniversary showcase, although it was only 10 minutes in length and included just two major announcements — you can watch it in full up above.
The first big announcement here relates to Dragon Quest 12, which is now officially known as DRAGON QUEST XII: Beyond Dreams. We were treated to a little bit of footage, which we'll throw down below, along with the reveal that the game has since restarted development and reshuffled its team due to hitting "a lot of hurdles" in the past.
The second announcement is for a brand-new game! DRAGON QUEST MONSTERS: The Withered World is officially coming to Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S (along with other non-Xbox platforms) at some point in the near future, with the game set to follow dual protagonists Bianca and Nera from Dragon Quest V.
Outside of the showcase, Square Enix has also confirmed today that DRAGON QUEST I & II HD-2D Remake and DRAGON QUEST III HD-2D Remake have both sold a combined 4 million copies across all platforms.
We'll leave you with more information and trailers for both of today's major announcements down below:
DRAGON QUEST XII: Beyond Dreams (TBD)
DRAGON QUEST XII underwent a restart in development under a new structure, with its title changed from DRAGON QUEST XII: The Flames of Fate to DRAGON QUEST XII: Beyond Dreams. Alongside this change, the game’s logo has also been completely refreshed. To accompany this announcement, messages from Yuji Horii, game designer, and Yosuke Saito, executive producer, have been released, along with in-development gameplay footage.
DRAGON QUEST MONSTERS: The Withered World (TBD)
The newest addition to the DRAGON QUEST MONSTERS series, DRAGON QUEST MONSTERS: The Withered World is coming to Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X|S and PC via Steam and Windows. The title follows dual protagonists Bianca and Nera, famously from DRAGON QUEST V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride.
