This will have zero impact for most Xbox owners who get the console to play games. I brought 1 movie from the MS store as it was on sale but its not really a go to place for any kind of video media these days.
GTA 6 will be the turning point for Series X and PS5, from a CPU and GPU standpoint it will push those consoles to thier absoulte limts like RDR 2 did with the last gen machines. Even PS5 Pro will get a full workout.
@Fiendish-Beaver Hardware is scaled price wise while software is typically fixed (not with the recent $80 price increase though) hardware is typically $50 cheaper on main consoles so it wouldn't be unreasonable for a higher priced console to be £50-£100 cheaper in the UK.
@Fiendish-Beaver MS will go where the money is, as always. That's why they have the highest global market cap.
It might upset some hardcore Xbox gamers, but MS is really a software and Services company and that is where their abilty to make the maximum profit lies.
Hardware has always been experimental for them, with Xbox really the last fully backed MS division allowed to continue making hardware. I feel like after this next gen they will tap out, or get 3rd party PC manufactuers to do hardware for them like Asus.
I loved my Windows phone, but they just wanted to sell software, and they will always default to this.
@CaptainCluck If it's not sustainable for them, they will cut it faster than a master chef cuts salad. Prices have risen in line with inflation and increased output (Lots of AAA releases in 2025, case in point).
It's been proven time and time again that MS will ruthlessly cut anything that does not make an acceptable profit. If Game Pass is unsustainable right now, it would be cut today. If it becomes unsustainable in the future, it will be cut in the quarter that happens.
BARB legal team is doing everything they can to stop some (allegedly) major info from coming out via a large gaming journalist, but it's only a matter of time. It will all be coming out soon enough and no doubt a new article will be here.
It makes good business sense for a Software company to add its name to other hardware products and customize software where needed. They still will make consoles for the hardcore Xbox players and Xbox fans with new features and innovation but can save money on the expensive but not very profitable VR and PC handheld markets.
@Medic_alert For me, Xbox is my first place to play JRPGs when they launch on the system, but I have to rely on Switch for NIS and Nintendo exclusives, though. PS5 doesn't have any notable JRPGS anymore now that FF is coming to Xbox and Switch.
If they are smart, they will not try and shoehorn this onto current gen and make this a next-gen only title. They tried to do this with Cyberpunk 2077 PS4 and Xbox One, and it failed miserably.
I would be skeptical that they could get a solid 60fps bug-free mode of Series X and PS5, let alone Series S.
I know it's hard to leave that last-gen install base money on the table, but they would make it back easily across the next gen, and they would not ruin the goodwill they had to build back up.
This game is Gollum levels of bad right now with boring mission design, poor AI, and bugs/performance issues galore. With a year of patching those issues, it's still going to be a mid-game. You can have a few hours of fun with it if ever it does run well, but this will never be "an underrated gem" no matter how many monetized YouTube videos try to tell me.
Now IF they redesign the game with a proper free roam mode where you can get in other cars and improve the AI that may change. I don't think the studio is going to last, though.
I suspect £550 for the base and £750-£799 for the X. These are high-end premium bits of kit for hardcore gamers. Like the PS5 Pro, it is a luxury purchase for the few, not the many. I will consider getting the cheaper one.
Even the Steam Deck is not a mass market product, and it's cheaper. Switch 2 would have outsold the lifetime sales of all these handhelds put together by the end of the year.
You only get mass market appeal for sub £500, or if you have the level of brand loyalty like Nintendo.
There is a reason why the game has a price rise in the US, but not in the UK. It's very clear. I am glad it has remained the same price in the UK, and I am happy that MS is not punishing consumers outside the US for economic issues within the US.
I will buy the £90 early access addition, but I know I will get my return on investment as I am a big fan of the first game. I think unless you are a big fan, it's worth going via Game Pass or a sale.
I feel having the early 2026 game as the first $80 might have been better, as the Outer Worlds 2 does feel like a B-tier game objectively. Fable, Gears of War, Halo, Forza, those would have been a better first $80 game if you are going to do it.
It was the best show this year by a mile. Only Nintendo Direct comes close. This show was a solid B, a little weaker than last year on launch dates, but I would have never expected to see a Gamefreak game at an Xbox show!
@TapeLoader That's why I said "new E3." It can't replace E3 as that was a different era of gaming, but it's the closest thing in regards to the level of AAA game announcements you get.
What's certain - it's going to blow State of Play, Nintendo Direct and Summer games fest out the water for it's 1st/3rd party games announcements. It really is the new E3.
When 90% of gamers on Xbox are digital and 80% on Playstation why would MS bother with a physical edition. Giving out to LRG and taking a cut seems like the correct choice.
I will never understand why some people obsess over sales figures. It makes sense if you work in Microsoft's accounting department or are a shareholder.
Players always equal money (purchase or subscription) it doesn't matter if the player plays for 30 minutes or 30 hours.
Perfect Dark, Fable, Clockwork Revolution, Gears of War E-Day. Those are just a few games we know about. Persona 4 Review is expected to show up as a Game Pass launch too.
@GADG3Tx87 To be honest both have been successful in regards to product development and profits, even if they make choices that are unpopular. If you are a shareholder you'd be happy with the results. Business doesn't use emotion like we do it uses logic.
Sadly this is what all large corporations do to remain agile. The more agile you are the more scope there is to make successful choices or required pivots. It's why MS has the largest market cap. It doesn't make easy or popular decisions but it makes the right ones for business. At the end of the day it is ultimately a business doing business things and we should never expect otherwise from any large business.
A huge amount of players will pick this up on Gamepass, and enjoy it. When I look at the gameplay it makes me smile with happiness I got from childhood gaming. Simplistic yet very fun.
I guess Microsoft are dominating as usual. Money is in software not the hardware. Sony has been focused on hardware this gen and not enough software. MS has moved back to software and are making as much money as they ever could on their console plus more. Now they get to save even more by producing less consoles while tripping the software sales potential.
Sony can only hold onto their very razor thin margins and thin set of exclusives for so long before they cave in and start going third party.
Weirdly I think PS6 would still outsell Xbox even if their was no exclusives due to brand loyalty and most PS5 gamer's playing Live service and sports games. Let's see if Sony are brave enough to compete in the future or fail trying to hold onto the past.
Nobody can expect any game with that level of tech to be running on mid-level 2019 specs. 30fps is fully expected and very reasonable for anyone but the tiny number of fps snobs.

SE waited too long (I played this on PS5 2 years ago).
Also it's probably the worst FF game I have played and tbh it's the port most Xbox players didn't want/care for.
Xbox players want FF7 remake and the other 2 parts (that will sell better)

It's not really an (J)RPG - it's more like a Japanese action-adventure game.
Having played through the game on PS5, the demo part was the best part for me.

Re: Last Chance! What Are Your Final Hopes For The Xbox Games Showcase 2025?
My hopes for this showcase include:
Release date for Fable
A release date window for Perfect Dark
A release date window for State of Decay 3
NG4 Release date
The Outer Worlds 2 Release date
More on Gears of War E-day
More on Clockwork Revolution
A new Forza Horizon game
Persona 4 Remake (I strongly expect this)
More SEGA games
The Xbox Partnership Handheld
Any new hardware
I don't ask for much haha.
What's certain - it's going to blow State of Play, Nintendo Direct and Summer games fest out the water for it's 1st/3rd party games announcements. It really is the new E3.
