Re: Deals: The Best Bargains In The Xbox E3 2021 Sale

Spaceman-Spiff

@Grumblevolcano It does seem suspicious doesn't it? I think you'd have to be a bit foolish to buy something like Doom 2016 before Sunday happens, when it will probably be added to Gamepass. And yes, I'm a fool because I've just bought it! Less than £5 for it was too difficult to say no to!

Re: Game Pass Gems: Help, I’m Stupidly Addicted To Hollow Knight

Spaceman-Spiff

I had some fun with it and couldn't put it down for a number of hours, but then realised that mostly my enjoyment came from the relief of finally beating a particular boss or difficult platforming section. The actual process of playing it was mostly filled with frustration and anger (not helped by the respawn points sometimes being miles away from where you died). I don't mind difficulty but having to replay the same section 8-9 times is not for me.

Re: Resident Evil Village's Graphical Options Revealed For Xbox Consoles

Spaceman-Spiff

@The_New_Butler Good point about the PS consoles. Maybe Capcom are anticipating VRR being added in the near future? Pretty sure Arkham Knight also runs at 45fps and that was pre VRR days, so clearly some developers think it's worthwhile doing despite the judder.

@Murray Looks like the range goes from down near 20hz up to 120hz on most TVs, so 45 FPS in theory should work fine.

Re: Xbox Fans Are Getting Hyped Over This Tease For Adventure Game Tunic

Spaceman-Spiff

I'm not really across this game - is there a reason it has so much hype? It looks charming yes and mention of Zelda obviously gets people interested, but there are lots of indie adventure style games that kind of fly under the radar, why is this one any different? Not saying it won't be great, just wondering if I've missed something that explains the level of hype it has.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (April 3rd)

Spaceman-Spiff

Still on Prey! What a game.

As a mostly solo gamer I'm interested to hear what anyone's thoughts are on Outriders as a story-driven single player experience. Are there levels that you complete and move on or is it more open world? Don't really want a grindy, repetitive, time-sink style game, but do like progressing through a good campaign.

Re: DOOM Eternal: The Ancient Gods – Part Two Arrives On Xbox Tomorrow

Spaceman-Spiff

@Krzzystuff I agree, I was also surprised when I saw that the Forza DLC wasn't included. I think it may have something to do with Playground Games not actually being a 1st party studio when it was being developed? Same with Obsidian and The Outer Worlds. Whereas Gears 5 and The Initiative were 1st party the whole time.

I would strongly expect that in the case of Doom Eternal's DLC it is only a matter of time until that gets added to GP though, along with Doom 2016.

Re: Crysis Remastered Might Be Getting An Xbox Series X Upgrade Very Soon

Spaceman-Spiff

Hmm. At this point every time Crysis is released for a new platform it just feels like it's another opportunity to see this badly optimised game run badly, regardless of what hardware you put in front of it. The whole "but can it run Crysis" thing is almost always answered with a no, at least not properly, thanks to how that game has been engineered. Hopefully I'll be proved wrong!

Re: The Future Of Titanfall Is In Respawn's Hands, Says EA

Spaceman-Spiff

Is it not heavily assumed that Respawn are currently hard at work on Fallen Order 2? Do they have multiple teams? Would love a Titanfall 3, though it's only the campaign I'd be interested in.

Titanfall 2's campaign provided some of the finest few hours of condensed fun I've had in gaming for some time.

Re: Control Ultimate Edition Patch Drops Today, Begins Addressing Xbox Series X Crashes

Spaceman-Spiff

@everynowandben I'm being overly harsh on Control I know - I have genuinely really enjoyed playing it and I'm looking forward to going back to it now that the crashing issue is being patched (I stopped for a while as it was really quite frequent). I think with the combat it's probably just a taste thing. I quite like the style of walking into an area with enemies and then being able to take a second to think about how to tackle them, maybe one at a time or trying to do it without alerting too many others etc. Control on the other hand is almost a bit like Doom Eternal where you enter an area and then suddenly a dozen enemies spawn on top of you, and then it's a frantic combination of shooting and moving until they're all gone. It's not a fault of the game, just a style that I favour slightly less.

Re: Control Ultimate Edition Patch Drops Today, Begins Addressing Xbox Series X Crashes

Spaceman-Spiff

@StonyKL I have gotten further into the game than you but I know what you mean. I also feel the game suffers from being somewhat repetitive, in particular the fighting and general exploration. I think the fact that the whole game so far has been set inside grey concrete rooms and corridors doesn't help - I would definitely prefer a bit more environmental variation. I do think it's fantastically atmospheric, beautiful, and well written however. I just don't think the actual gameplay is quite up there with the best.
