Well, the rumours were true! Lucasfilm Games and EA have revealed that Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order has received its totally free Xbox Series X and S upgrade today, also available via EA Play with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.
This brings a variety of improvements to the game on next-gen systems, including:
- Higher Resolution Textures & Assets
- 4K/HDR Resolution
- Improved 60 FPS Performance
- Significantly Faster Loading Times
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order features two performance modes on Xbox Series X, which are 4K at 30fps or 1440p at 60fps, but the Xbox Series S version is simply limited to one performance mode - 1080p at 60fps.
Interestingly, if you own a physical copy of Jedi: Fallen Order on Xbox One and you want to play the game on the disc-less Xbox Series S, EA is willing to offer a free code which you can obtain over at the official EA website.
"Since the game’s initial launch, more than 20 million players worldwide have played the critically acclaimed Star Wars story of Cal Kestis across all consoles, platforms and subscription services. With this next-gen release there’s never been a better time to take up a lightsaber and become a Jedi!"

Unlike Control, this is how you do it.
I am not smart enough to understand the actual technology... But I can't understand why companies still cant make games that are 4K AND 60 FPS. Isn't that what the Series X was designed for?
Wow that's some pro consumer move from EA!
@OliverOwen This was marketing plows. This "next gen" will never support any thing 4k/60fps at AAA-level realism (can't even do current gen). They could have, but not at $499 as sold
@OliverOwen
It depends on the how much graphical effects there are in a game to see if it can run at 4K 60fps.
Especially if you added ray tracing as well.
If a game took 6tflops of power to run at 1080p 30fps then it would take 12tflops of power to run 1080p 60fps and then double that again to run 4K 60fps. It takes a lot of power basically.
Basically if you want more graphics and graphical effects something has to give.
@Dezzy70 4k from 1080p is 4x times the pixel count (this is a surface. Double both side side, you have 4 times more)
@endlessleep right?? Now I'm conflicted with that bf2042 announcement.
@Kamalen
I know I was trust trying to give a simple reason why you don’t always get 4K 60 FPS.
But thank you.
But this is the dilemma this generation
You could create a next generation game at native 4K 60fps and it may only just look as good as the best games last generation, running at upscaled 4K 30fps.
The general public then go, don’t think much of the new generation it doesn’t look any better.
Not being funny but Sony this new generation really are aware of this and up the graphical effects but use up scaling to get 4K and 30fps.
And they don’t care as much as Microsoft do about boasting a game runs at native 4K 60fps, which the general don’t care about they just go by what the graphics the human eye sees.
Xbox then loose out I have already heard general public say last generation with PS4 Pro over the Xbox series x.
Native 4K 60fps gamers great and sells some consoles.
Upscaled 4K at 30fps amazing looking graphics and effects, general public that looks amazing, selling millions of consoles.
What happens to my game saves?
You will be able to transfer your save file over from the Xbox One or PlayStation 4 versions of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order to Xbox Series X|S or PlayStation 5.
On Xbox Series X|S, the upgraded version of the game will be able to pull from your cloud storage or on-console storage automatically.
On Playstation 5, ensure your console has the PS4 save data on system storage (either from previous PS4 version playtime on the console, download from Cloud storage, or transfer via USB stick). From there, there will be a “Import PS4 System Save Data” prompt on the start-up screen. Simply select that option and you will be able to utilize your older save data.

@Kamalen Halo Infinite and most AAA from Xbox will be doing 4K60fps it’s not a marketing ploy they just need to use the RDNA2 and Xbox Velocity Architecture optimisations like Sampler Feedback, Mesh Shading.
Don’t expect anything from lazy developers though.
@OliverOwen It's a bit strange I agree. The previous update had the game running at 1440p60 on Series X anyway, so now they've kept it the same but with upgraded assets and higher res textures. It's probably just down to it not being native to the Series X and so still handicapped in some way.
@Senua What we have seen last time of Halo Infinite is certainly not "state of the art" in visual fidelity. (I'm still hopping it's gonna be upgraded). Plus, it's is also still planned for Xbox One. So it will be scary if it can't manage 4k60 on SX, but even there I still suspect dynamic resolution will be in the picture.
As for the others, we haven't seen them.
This is the same situation with the competition. Look as how the "groundbreaking" Ratchet & Clank can't handle both.
I wonder if they are going to announce a sequel during E3?
Don't see why'd they'd make the effort for the native version and drop it now at that matter and for free...
This is the same EA that wants to charge you separately for the new Battlefield. lol
@Senua
I hope you are right and you probably are.
To making a game pure native 4K 60fps locked uses so much of the series x power and the game will to the general public look no better than a top end last generation game running at 1080p up scaled with tricks to 4K 30fps.
This will not sell Halo as well, the general public want to see graphical effects etc way beyond last generation.
I’m sitting here now play ratchet and clank rift apart. No way is it 4K it’s probably 1440p upscaled then TA with tricks. But my general public eye thinks wow this is next generation graphical effects etc.
Microsoft need to learn this because this is what sells. This is one reason series s are sitting on shelf’s and series x is selling a lot slower now in the UK, usual a strong Xbox country outside of the USA.
Is this on top of the previous patch from January that targeted 4K30?

@Kamalen
I’m playing R&C right now as I type this.
Not native 4K 60fps. Clever tricks used to upscale to 4K and it looks amazing to the general public eye.
Microsoft need to get on this bandwagon and stop going look native 4K 60fps.
It does not sell consoles to the masses.
@Dezzy70
This graphical thing and of course the lack of games is why the series s and x got their bums kick again last week in sales in Europe 3:1.
With series s sitting on shelf’s.
Even in the USA, they get outsold, but only by a small margin though.
They need to get with the programme on graphical effects and AAA games.
And before someone say it’s about game pass, sell more consoles you sell more game pass.
@Kamalen “the "groundbreaking" Ratchet & Clank can't handle both.”
This is because of the boost mode due to which the GPU can’t run at full clock when CPU is in use. In fact Digitalfoundry has confirmed today that it’s a CPU issue.
“Plus, it's is also still planned for Xbox One.”
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is cross gen too and so are technically impressive titles like Metro Exodus, Hitman 3 etc. Even Flight Simulator which is even way way more technically impressive and resource intensive, is also planned for Xbox One at some point. Crossgen is also not going anywhere for upcoming titles like Horizon Forbidden West, God Of War 2, GT7 etc.
@uptownsoul Indeed but for some they won’t even notice that the save needs to be transferred or has happened already. 😅
Even on Series S this is bloody gorgeous!! I mean beautiful to the point my mrs walked in and asked which Star Wars film I was watching!!
Tried both and actually settled for the 4K/30 because it is so damn gorgeous in 4K. Work good in 30fps since it was designed for that. And I can change it at any time in the meny.
And the DLSS and similar stuff will very soon be used on consoles and it will help a bunch with 4K and RT.
@uptownsoul
Yes they seem to have got a good thing going on with their 3 modes. Native 4K 60fps or not,
More the case not. But to the masses that does not matter.
Because they know what they are doing and what sells to the masses. As simple as that and it is already starting to show.
So far R&C is great, only just started the opening level and the effects and amount in screen and particles is second to none. The picture is very clean and crisp on my 65” QLED but my brain knows it is not native 4K by the analysis but my eye probably can’t tell as they use clever TA tricks etc.
General public will go amazing next generation give me give me give me.
The game was already patched for Series consoles. I did it on Series X, and it was already 4K (or sort of) and 60 fps.
I'm really curious to see if there is any difference with this new version or if this is just a marketing way to put a new light on the game.
@PhhhCough should have followed suit by pricing the game at no more than $50 on PS5 & Xbox Series
@Senua the usual Xbox Series goodness. Smart Delivery is awesome & definitely not some gimmick.
@Dezzy70 in response to your comment #15; Series X is selling out in the UK, so saying it’s selling slower is, whilst true, not exactly fair. It’s selling as fast as it can all things considered. Not sure what data you’re going off of otherwise.
Series S is a bit different yea.
All these sales figures for Series X and PS5 are pointless at the moment because 1) they are bottlenecked by stock and 2) they will be bought by scalpers and a lot of them are sitting sealed in scalpers bedrooms.
@K1LLEGAL
Ok I’m Greater London UK, say 3 months ago when series x came in stock it went as quick as PS5 did and still does.
Now it is a lot slower, stock will drop and you have sometimes a good day to get the console.
There is still stock now at my two local Game UK shops as I type this. This is definitely a slow down in series x purchasing, compared to 3 months ago.
Sales data is taken from VG analysis and yes there is probably some guess work but these analysts do have their ways.
My local area sales website may have one or two series x for buying/scalping no where near like it was 3 months ago and only about £50 extra.
The demand has slowed for the series x in the UK, there is nothing wrong with that it is just a true fact if you look for it.
We should not be surprised, new games sell consoles and there aren’t any new AAA exclusives. It’s just fact.
Now being positive maybe near Christmas when they hopefully release Halo etc it should pick up.
@Dezzy70 Fair enough buddy. I just wasn’t sure where the figures were coming from. To be honest, I got mine on launch day so I don’t look at when stock comes in. But I do see posts on Hotukdeals/Facebook etc and see how quickly it sells out. But I see your point!
@K1LLEGAL
Got mine at launch as well and got GPU
The console itself form factor and GUI are excellent. But at 7 months in, as I like new experiences, remembering I have owned every home game console and played what I wanted to, it really needs new AAA in house games for me.
I’m currently on the new Ratchet and Clank, and it just needs new games simply as that really for me.
Amazing game, Can't wait for the sequel..
Series X still out of stock everywhere you try buying one it comes into stock on the Microsoft site for like 5 minuets then sold out.
https://www.xbox.com/en-gb/where-to-buy
@Dezzy70
Lets be honest here ratchet and clank is the first AAA ps5 first party exclusive to come out since launch
@trev666
Try Smyths toys sometimes they have shop store stock they drop randomly.
Game UK Uxbridge UB9 branch as stock in store right now. That not that hard to get now.
Good luck.
@trev666
Correct along with Returnal and Astro bots.
And Demon soul remake.
But they released some new cross generation games to.
Sack boy, miles morales.
See how it all adds up, new games on PlayStation since launch.
Returnal isnt a first party developed game
Demon souls isnt a first party developed game
Sackboy isnt a first party develpoed game
Miles morales isnt a ps5 exclusive
@Hexamex-Tex "Unlike Control, this is how you do it."
While I agree it is much easier to do it for games like Jedi Fallen Order, Witcher 3, etc. that far exceeded sales expectations and they're still living off the profit. Rumour is that Control did less well than expected and a second sales window might be necessary if we want a sequel.
this is the kind of upgrade i really want to see come to all 345 of my games. TWO THUMBS UP Free is always appreciated thanks Xbox
@themightyant I suppose... but they could also bring out compelling DLC to raise funds. I can't imagine them charging for a texture pack on the PC... which is all I see this as. Not like they did a lot in the XS version. Just too many games on the market to justify it.
So I have a beast PC computer, Ryzen 5900x/ RTX 3080. The game is poorly optimized and lag so much that I ended up playing it on my Series X, sitting in my couch. yeah it's not running at 4k, 144fps but at least it runs perfectly in performance mode on the console....
@Hexamex-Tex control ultimate edition DID include the 2 (really good) DLC.
Though I agree the base next gen version should have been a free upgrade.
I’m just saying it’s far easier to make those consumer friendly calls when you’re sitting on a pile of profit that will fund all the staff for your next game.
Rumour is Control was really expensive to make and didn’t sell up to expectations.
@uptownsoul Now they are caring. 😂
@uptownsoul “And nobody cares if the PS5 version takes an additional 45seconds & 6 button prompts”
FYI the PS5 version is not even upgrading, showing “Disc required” for an online game. 😂
Countless instances can be found like these which don’t make the upgrade process smooth and sometimes JUST DOESN’T WORK.
@uptownsoul That Xbox issue was related to Quick Resume (which was early launch issue and was fixed) and not related to the fundamental upgrade process that will NOT change throughout console generation. Xbox upgrade process is not even noticeable (due to free cloud saves) whereas good luck searching for your pendrive. 😂
