Re: Reaction: Xbox Games Showcase 2025 Was Just OK, But Next Year Should Be Amazing

RiverGenie

Coming in 2026 was certainly the theme of all the showcase this year including Xbox. Its also why I have rated all of them below average pretty much.

With Xbox specifically I was also disappointed with the lack of news about some of the previously announced big hitter such as State of Decay 3 & Fable among others.

Good job I have The Outer Worlds 2 to look forward to at least.

Finished up the new dlc for Atomfall this morning. Its more Atomfall which is good but it really does feel like they ripped this out of the main game just to have a dlc to sell. 7/10

Will be making a start on Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition. Its good for me to play this again as its a timely reminder that I don't need cutting edge high fidelity visuals to enjoy a game.

Give me an intriguing story, exploration plus a decent sense of progression & I am good to go. Having a miniature giant space hamster helps too, GO FOR THE EYES BOO!

On PS5 I will probably finish up with Destiny 2 The Final Shape. It was ok but yeah it hasn't blown my socks off and glad I waited for it to come to PS Plus rather than buy it.

Re: The Witcher 4 Dev Says Tech Demo 'Doesn't Represent The Game' In Bizarre Interview

RiverGenie

@Kezelpaso I haven't forgotten the Cyberpunk launch but I have moved on from it. CDPR made it good in the end so I am not going to continually hold it over their heads.

Much the same with No Man's Sky & Hello Games. They also screwed up their launch, big time. Hello Games also made good on their promise too.

So no not forgotten but when a company earns their redemption its time to move on. Life is too short to hold grudges especially over silly stuff like gaming.

Re: The Witcher 4 Dev Says Tech Demo 'Doesn't Represent The Game' In Bizarre Interview

RiverGenie

I don't get the issue here.

I watched the presentation and it was clear to me that this was a tech demo only set in the Witcher 4 to showcase Unreal Engine not a representative demo of the game. Its similar to the first Ciri trailer in the sense it sets a mood rather than expectation of the actual game.

A lot of this "controversy" feels like its just being used as an excuse to throw stones at CDPR for reasons. Perhaps folks are still bitter about Cyberpunk or something.

Re: Xbox Quietly Releases New 4TB Expansion Card For Series X|S

RiverGenie

Never needed extra storage on Series X but I might have been tempted more if I stuck with the S.

At the moment I have 14 games installed ranging from 180Gb down to 2Gb in size and I still have about 200 gb space if I need it without needing to delete anything. Even then for me it's easy to just delete & download as necessary with good internet speeds that I have these days.

14 games is more than enough to keep me well entertained and I just don't see any need for these expensive storage expansions for my circumstances.

On Series X I am playing the new season in Division 2. Finished the new Brooklyn dlc already, its ok for the cost but nothing spectacular. Have been surprised to see log in queues which I guess is due to gamepass but its good to see honestly for such an old game.

The Final Shape for Destiny 2 dropped on PS Plus so I will make my annual 2 week visit to the game over on PS5. I played a little this morning and it quickly reminded me why I only play for 2 weeks .

Its such an obtuse game with a quest narrative that feels like they are just picking random words from a dictionary and jamming them together. I enjoy the shooting part of Destiny 2 and try to tolerate the the other stuff.

Re: Tom Clancy's The Division 2 Is Available Today With Xbox Game Pass (May 27)

RiverGenie

The latest dlc Battle for Brooklyn also drops today at a reasonable £12.99. It supposedly adds 8-10 hours of new story missions. It also has a skip to level 40 but I wouldn't use that personally unless you already played through the game and want to create a new character.

Also the new season content launches today which is available to everyone. This comes with a bunch of new gear and weapons via the free track on the battlepass (plus a bunch of cosmetics on the paid version if that's your thing )

All in all a good time for Division 2 players old & new.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (May 24-25)

Mostly Titan Quest after getting it in a sale. I enjoy Path of Exile 1 & 2, Diablo 4 but its very refreshing to play an arpg that isnt constantly trying to sell you a battle pass or the latest cosmetic bundle.

Titan Quest is old, the ui & controls are wonky but heck despite that its still a lot of fun. I often think the D4's & PoE's we have now forget that part of the equation in their rush to sell you stuff or be the hardest hardcore that ever hardcored.

I am also chipping away at Doom, doing a chapter every couple of days or so but not in any real rush with it. Its a fun time but for some reason the game just makes me tired.

Re: Lies Of P's New Difficulty Update Is Causing A Stir On Social Media

RiverGenie

Just goes to show hardcore anything be it souls like, pvp or whatever are the minority. Though they usually whine the most & loudest when things are changed to appeal to a wider audience.

I really don't understand the objections either you all can still play at bash your head against the wall difficulty if that is what you want. Other folks can make their own choice to suit them.

Everyone wins with no downsides.

Re: Atomfall Was 'Immediately Profitable' Despite Launching On Xbox Game Pass

RiverGenie

@Fiendish-Beaver Atomfall, Avowed, South of Midnight.

As to the order its all personal preference but for me Atomfall was so refreshingly British that it put it over the other two by a hair. Avowed just edges out South of Midnight as it offers more variety in game play, combat & environments.

All are very good games though and well worth your time.

Re: Xbox & Bethesda Say DOOM: The Dark Ages Is id Software's 'Biggest Launch' Ever

RiverGenie

@Titntin so i can ask a relevant question related to the article, first short sentence. To be extremely clear the question: As a gamer what is the point of being concerned about sales figures & player count?

I am already doing everything I can to help by engaging with said game or buying if applicable. Everything that happens & decisions regarding the game / dev team is out of my hands. So to me its a waste of time being concerned about it.

Beyond this particular article I am tired of folks using a games relative success or not as a tool to bash others with. Look at Push Square using Steam as a metric to say it failed (Pure Xbox are not innocent in that regard either with other games.)

I guess its all stems from me just being old & tired of seeing the same nonsense playing out over & over every time a AAA or any game is released, sigh.

Re: Xbox & Bethesda Say DOOM: The Dark Ages Is id Software's 'Biggest Launch' Ever

RiverGenie

@Kienda why does it matter? are you a stockholder?

Me I am just a gamer so I just play the game, its either fun or it isn't (Doom is fun to me in short bursts.) The number of other folks playing it is completely irrelevant to me and has no baring on my enjoyment.

I really don't get this obsession with sales metrics that many folks seem to have. Its really frustrating to me that I want to talk about games, the mechanics and so on but all we seem to get "but it didn't sell well on x, y or z platform". Yaaaawwwnn!
