Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (September 27-28)

RiverGenie

I was surprised to find Dying Light: The Beast in my owned games. I apparently got it for buying the Dying Light 2 Ultimate Edition so yay me.

Only played a bit but my first impression is it feels much slower & more deliberate than DL2. It's more akin to the original game but i kind of enjoyed the fast & fluid pace of DL2 so definitely need more play time to see how I feel about that.

That said I probably won't be playing DL: The Beast though as I am not really in the mood. Also taking a break from Borderlands 4 this weekend after getting a bit frustrated trying to level up Amon.

I think I will mostly be on Diablo 4 season 10. Its been a bit of a week so some turn off the brain, turn up the music & blow sh.. um ... stuff up game play is just what I need.

Re: Forza Horizon 6 Heads To Japan In 2026, Day One On Xbox Game Pass

RiverGenie

I will have a go via gamepass and may even enjoy it for a short time. I probably won't go for the premium edition this go around though as i am mostly over open world racing.

I would expect FH6 will have a big focus on drifting & touge style races both of which I am not a huge fan of but a lot of other folks enjoy. Will have to see when some actual details drop.

Re: Roundup: All The Xbox Reveals From September 2025's State Of Play

RiverGenie

@Fiendish-Beaver I am in the same boat my PS5 is basically a dust collector at the moment.

The GT7 Spec 3 update looked interesting to me, 2 new tracks! Wolverine does have a lot of potential and will be keeping an eye on that.

The only other game that was interesting to me was Last Epoch which is seemingly a PS5 console exclusive at launch. The devs have said in the past they would port it to Xbox too so it might be a timed exclusive (maybe? need more info)

Re: Stalker 2 Update 1.6 Arrives On Xbox, Here Are The Patch Notes

RiverGenie

All these are good changes and can only make things better.

That said I am a little worried that there has been zero mentions of the dlc. They committed to at least two expansions and we will be nearly a year into the release shortly & no news.

I get that the engine update will be the focus and hopefully that is going to make this substantially better but yeah ... sigh

Re: Roundup: Here's What The Reviews Are Saying About Silent Hill F

RiverGenie

Love reading the comments in game reviews:

Person gets upset / annoyed at someone for scoring a game 7 / 10

Oh well what would you score it as then?

Well its obvious this is an 8 / 10 game at the very least.

Seriously! Some folks take a review score way too seriously and should probably see a doctor about a stick extraction 🍑

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (September 20-21)

RiverGenie

@Nightcrawler71 the minions are probably the easiest way to level Vex imo & will certainly carry you through the campaign. I focused the reapers to stop me be over run so much but I think the specter are better dps wise.

I did eventually switch to a non minion kill skill build spreading status effects (hybrid green / red tree) which is what I finished the campaign on. It was a much more straightforward run & gun style but it would probably be a struggle to get going right out the gate.

I don't think you can really go too wrong with Vex and she has a lot of damage & survival tools so try the options, respec and see what is fun for you.

(I started Rafa originally before trying Vex & I died way more on Rafa.)

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (September 20-21)

RiverGenie

Still Borderlands 4 all weekend.

I got my first character (Vex) through the campaign and had a fantastic experience. I have to admit that I am having a hard time getting motivation to engage with the end game at the moment. Mostly because I know its wasted effort at this point in the game.

I will slowly work on getting Vex to the current level cap but I am more excited to run the other heroes through the campaign right now.

A quick shout out to the B4 audio team for adding tinnitus friendly audio profiles to the game. I can't recall seeing this accessability option in any other game but its much appreciated that you made the effort.

I only really have some frustrations with the inventory UI which is just cumbersome on a controller. Clearly designed for pc & eff those console / controller peasants.

All in all though its just been a fantastic fun time so far for me.

Re: Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor Is Getting Huge Praise On Xbox Game Pass & PC

RiverGenie

Soulstone Survivors has been my go to recently for this sort of game. Very polished, tons of character and so many build options. Very easy to lose half a day doing the "just one more go" thing.

I will have to take a look at DRG: Survivor and see how it stacks up against my current king for this genre. That said I have no idea when I will give it a try as I have more gaming options than we have hours in the day to play them.

Good problem to have and I am a blessed gamer right now.

Re: Dying Light: The Beast Comparison Shows Difference Between Xbox Series X And Series S

RiverGenie

Can anyone who is playing this on Series X confirm or refute this for me please.

I have seen a few reports of the night being excessively dark to the point that a posted screenshot was literally black with no detail. Also said that adjusting options didn't seem to help.

I am a little worried as I typically turn up brightness a lot as my eye sight has a hard time with darkness in games (& real life too.) I am hoping its just an isolated pc issue and not how it is generally on console.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Re: Borderlands 4 Performance Degrades On Xbox The Longer You Play, Dev Suggests Workaround

RiverGenie

I can't speak for others but I have played through the story on Vex and am currently exploring end game on her at level 41.

Only issue I encountered in 49 hours of playtime so far that required me to restart the game was a quest item spawning under some stairs so I couldn't pick it up. Restart fixed it and item was respawned on a table next to stairs.

I am on a series X in performance mode for reference. Not seeing any problems in my game and hope that continues because its been a lot of fun for me.

Re: ZeniMax Devs Still Want To Make Something New Despite Microsoft Cancellation

RiverGenie

@Ricky-Spanish ZeniMax Online Studios (who the article is about) are an mmo studio though and were formed to create mmos. They are a separate subsidiary to Bethesda Games Studios in much the same way as Machine Games, Arkane etc etc.

Personally I would hope they get the chance to branch out into other games but I wonder if that is even possible given the recent lay offs.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (September 13-14)

RiverGenie

I am neck deep in Borderlands 4 and having a fantastic time.

The new open world nature of the game changes things a lot but for me it's a good change. I am finding it a bit hard at times and have died quite a lot . I think that's mostly on me for exploring places I am under levelled for.

BL4 isn't something you are going to finish quickly and it will take quite some hours to complete at least on your first character (you have the option to skip the campaign for future characters once you have done it once.)

The game story so far is just ok. It isn't as in your face crazy & over the top as BL3 but feels darker in tone. I have to be honest I do miss the crazy just a little bit.

Performance mode on Series X has been pretty flawless for me, no crashes or anything that has impacted my enjoyment of the game.

So yeah all in all a good time for me. I hope that continues through the weekend and beyond.

Re: Roundup: Here's What The Reviews Are Saying About Borderlands 4

RiverGenie

Have to take a break after 4 hours in B4.

Its been a good experience so far for me. Shooting is as good as its always been & that has been fun. The new open world nature of the game I like but I expect some folks will have issues with it. Its certainly a less focused experience and its easy to be distracted which I don't mind but as i said i can see this being an issue for some.

Performance wise I haven't had any issue apart from the cut scene slow down in the tutorial. This is in performance mode I did briefly try quality and that is not so good.

My initial impression tldr: I am having fun & I can't wait to get back in after I am done pretending to be a responsible adult for the next few hours.

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Dragon Age: The Veilguard On Xbox Game Pass?

RiverGenie

@Grippie I appreciate you might be going on 2nd hand information but Veilguard literally continues and brings to a conclusion the story set up from the previous game along with having returning characters from said game.

How someone can say it has nothing to do with Dragon Age just tells me they either didn't play the game or didn't pay any attention if they did.

You have the right idea in playing it your self & making up your own mind. Hope you enjoy your time.

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Dragon Age: The Veilguard On Xbox Game Pass?

RiverGenie

@Titntin absolutely gaming should be about enjoying the hobby and sharing your excitement for whichever game makes you happy plus being happy for other folks who might have that same joy with other games.

Sadly these day discussing games often feels like navigating a minefield in the dark while wearing a blindfold with someone actively trying to put a mine under your raised foot.

Its all a bit sad really.

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Dragon Age: The Veilguard On Xbox Game Pass?

RiverGenie

I played this at launch & I think the game got an undeserved kicking from folks pushing various agendas.

The overwhelming sentiment I saw from folks who actually played it rather than watched youtube was that its a good time. It isn't pushing gaming boundaries in any way nor doing any thing spectacular. What it does do is give you a good time if you give it a chance.

Sometimes good enough is well good enough & perfection is overrated (A solid 8 if you need a number.)

Re: Xbox Game Pass Helps Dead Island 2 To Huge Player Milestone As Dev Teases Sequel

RiverGenie

I really enjoyed Dead Island 2 because it just plain & simple fun.

Its not a complex, deep or morally challenging story nor is the game play mechanically complex. It is however something you can jump in and play for a couple of hours without thinking too much about it while having a smile on your face the entire time.

Its the gaming equivalent of a popcorn movie and I am all for it .

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (September 6-7)

RiverGenie

I am sitting in the Borderlands 4 waiting room. Its been a while since I was this excited to jump into a new game and I really really hope it sticks the landing.

I am passing the time playing Path of Exile 2 beta. The game is making progress and it is better than it was in the earlier versons but still plenty of room for improvement. I really wish they would work on some of the console performance issues when it comes to the end game mapping.

I do have fun when I play PoE 2 and it will be interesting to follow the progress through to the full release.

But yeah come on Borderlands 4 ......

Re: Poll: Are You Buying Borderlands 4 Next Week?

RiverGenie

@Wilforce as much as I am looking forward to B4 i would maybe wait on reviews of the switch 2 version.

While most prelaunch previews for the game have been positive for the pc, ps5 & series consoles the exception has been the switch 2 previews. A lot of folks have said it ran very poorly on the switch 2.

Obviously they are playing a prelaunch version and its possible that these issues have been fixed. Personally I wouldn't have preordered if I was on switch & would certainly check the launch review first.

Hopefully its all good for launch and we all have a fun time whatever platform we play on.
