Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (October 18-19)

More Vampire Survivors and I've jumped back into Helldivers 2 because I don't want to start anything new that I won't finish before Tuesday, when I drop everything for Jurassic World Evolution 3.

For me it will be Keeper, Veilguard and the traditional career play in FM. Nice weekend whatever anyone plays.

Ghost of Yotei - loving this game, its just so much fun to play! The open world, apart from being absolutely stunning, really invites exploration and I constantly get sidetracked in a good way and the combat is good and imo its just as fun to play stealthy as it is to just openly challenge the enemies. Soundtrack is also very good! Currently hunting the Kitsune 🙂

Battlefield 6 - so, my plan was to wait for this to be in a deep sale at least before buying it (didnt want to support EAs new owners) but then some friends I played a LOT of Battlefield 4 and Destiny with reached out and wanted to get the crew together again and I simply couldnt resist. So, despite giving EA and co my money which leaves just a little sour taste in my mouth (apart from the small chunk going to the actual people who made the game, you are absolutely worth giving money too) we´ve had som much fun playing multiplayer. Its really the best Battlefield since 4 imo, looks and plays great and I cant wait to play more, especially awesome when you have a good squad 🙂

Playing Keeper. Interesting little game so far.

Sniper Elite 4, going back to it after it sat in my backlog for a few months, some more Dead Rising 4 and Alan Wake 2. Have a good weekend!

I'm going to spend a little time with Keeper. I've read nothing about it, no reviews or previews. I'm going in blind other than having seen a couple of trailers months ago. And I'm so looking forward to it.

Ahhh, Lies of P. Such a great game. I'm waiting for a sale on the Overture DLC to jump back in. According to my stats on the game I've put in 7d, 18h, and 38m. It's nuts, because I can't remember putting this much time in any FromSoft title.

On Xbox replaying Dying Light 2 and finding it a better overall experience than DL: The Beast. Everything just flows better from the parkour, traversal in general and the combat. The Beast just feels clunky in comparison.

That said I expect The Beast will get there eventually (DL2 certainly didn't launch like that.) but right now I am finding DL2 a better game for me.

On PS5 I have been doing some daily race multiplayer in GT7 just to keep my race craft in good shape. Can't wait to see how the spec 3 update shakes things up in a couple of months.

Just finished P4G. Now I'm starting P3R and Dying light the beast. All on Series X. I also want to try Keeper and Ball x Pit.

Keeper - finally got it working after a few hiccups and a reinstall.

Only an hour in and hoping it improves as it’s been pretty dull so far (reviews suggest it will).

Also AoE4 on XSX and Ghost of Tsushima & Pure Pool on PS5.

Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun

Finished Batman Telltale (the two seasons) a few days ago.
Now it's time for Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and Punishments and good old Vampire Survivors. That game always has something to do.

Im still working through silksong. Great game, definitely a little more difficult then the first and it took me a while to understand the whole crest system and how to :build: your character to fit your play style. But great fun.

Ill also be hopping on keeper to stroll through that on the side

I've just started over on Cyberpunk 2077 so I'm very much enjoying that atm.

I'll also be having another run at ARC Raiders for the server slam ahead of launch.

Chipping away at AC Odyssey. It just keeps going. A pretty and frictionless busywork game - sometimes what you need.

Keeper

Amazing art style, wonderful soundtrack. The vibes and atmosphere are on point. Packed full of charming little details. The gameplay is basic sure, but this is clearly intended to be an audio-visual experience first and foremost.

My only real critique so far is poor framerate on XSX. I downloaded the PC version and it’s honestly night and day smoother. I think I’ll have to continue the rest of the game there instead. Hope they can patch the XSX version. It really suffers from having no performance mode. The fixed camera perspective helps to a certain extent but it becomes tiresome for the eyes after a certain point.

The actual core game though is great.

@Tdx loved AC Odyssey. It is the only AC I've really played, but fantastic game. Now I want to play it again, thanks!

My 2 big games at the moment are Resident Evil 4 Remake on xbox, and Super Mario Galaxy 2 on S2.

I'm also playing Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia and Retrorealms Halloween

I'm 70 hours into my run of Ghost of Yotei, and am absolutely loving it. It is definitely a strong contender for Game of the Year, though my personal favourite this year has been Cronos: The New Dawn (and yes! I have played Expedition 33 as well).

With any luck, tomorrow, I might get another stab at a Master Horde with just myself, my youngest son, and my mate (and 2 bots!) in Gears 5 tomorrow as we haven't had chance today. It's proving really difficult, as we keep getting wiped on one of the boss waves, which on the map we are doing (Turbine) has a Matriarch on every single boss wave, and she's proving very, very challenging. We got to wave 40 a number of times now, but cannot quite get through it, but we will eventually...!

@FarmDog08 I'd really recommend Origins - a serious tone, handcrafted locations and cities, focused plot, excellent main character, and stealth/bow are viable for the entire game.

I just want to say i really enjoy this part of my weekend i don't always take part in conversation and comment but i am always keen to read what everyone is playing and enjoying hope everyone has a nice weekend and happy gaming. Its Battlefield 6 for me this weekend.

@Tdx I did play about half of Origins years later after Odyssey. It just never resonated with me. Odyssey is just too good.

I played a bit of The Casting of Frank Stone, but I wasn’t in the mood for something gloomy, so I switched to Ball X Pit which is very addictive. Might give Keeper a try tomorrow.

Deeprock Galactic Survivor, my 5 year old LOVES this game. She has gone from barely being able to use the analog sticks in stuff like the Bluey game and fall guys to a total pro. Parents of young ones, don't sleep on this.

@Tdx it's a great game with an amazing world but my god is it overstuffed. Love a bit of sightseeing but they really needed someone at Ubisoft to say "Enough!" at some point during development.

Anyway, decided this was the weekend to go back to No Man's Sky. That really has turned into an excellent game in the last few years.

My son is loving Palworld and I'm actually quite enjoying him playing that.

Dwarf Survivors mostly as I love the funny remarks the dwarf makes. I will also try Keeper and Balkxpit to see if I will like them… enjoy your weekend!

I'll be checking out the arc raiders server slam tonight. After that, who knows?

I have played some Keeper but not sure i will finish it before they cut me off.

Surprised MS haven't made more of an effort to get me back in. No offers, just a couple of emails warning me my sub is expiring.

I have started Keeper. Weird as, but I find it quite soothing to play.

Still getting through South of Midnight as well. Love this game.

And on Switch 2 playing a bit of DK Bonanza.

Supposedly only 6-8 hours and looking it up online i am 3/4 of the way through so I will probably finish it.

I'm not sure I'd buy it to be honest. Perfect gamepass game.

The Secret of Monkey Island "Talkie Edition" via ScummVM. A fantastic version of one of my all-time favorites, mixing the 1992 VGA graphics and CD-audio soundtrack with the 2009 voice acting. More fun (and useful) than a rubber chicken with a pulley in the middle!

This weekend I'm continuing to play Digimon Story: Time Stranger and JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle R.
The move to my new place is fast approaching meaning I don't really feel like focusing on too many games until I am set up in the new apartment.

I started The Last of Us Part 1 on PC, with Part 2 to follow in time for Hallowe'en.

I abandoned AC Shadows after 30 hours. I'm not sure if it was a case of AC fatigue after 400 hours back to back Odyssey/Valhalla, or whether it just isn't as well crafted a game as the other two. It felt more like a chore than a joy. Beautiful to look at, but some of the mechanics were hugely annoying. I'd had enough of it anyway.

Trying to finish Dying Light The Beast before The Outer Worlds 2 release.

Only Battlefield 6 ,rest of them doesn't matter !!!

Feeling very annoyed and aggrieved right now! After 4 or 5 weeks of trying, and probably upwards of 20 attempts, my son, my mate, and myself finally managed to beat a Horde on Master in Gears 5 as a trio (with 2 bots too). We did all 50 waves, and at the end our score came up saying we had scored something above 670,000 points, but when we checked the stats, it has not updated at all. That run took around 2 hours and 15 minutes, and basically it was all for nothing! Yes, I know that we know that we succeeded, but the fact that none of us has updated stats to show that we have is very frustrating. Anyone that has actually completed a Master run will know how difficult they are (because if you all die, the run ends), but will also probably have done it as a team of 5, so for 3 of us to complete it makes it much harder still.

I don't even know whether it updated the fact that we did a run at all, as I though I am currently number 88 in the World as a Mechanic, I don't know where I was before today, as it is not something I keep a regular eye on.

All very frustrating, and to think that I did the last 26 waves with absolutely no sound, thanks to some bug or other, meaning I couldn't hear where the enemies were, made it all the harder too. As much as I love the game, stuff like this should not be happening 6 years after the game launched...

I just finished Keeper. It’s so strange, weird, and trippy but 100% worth experiencing! It’s cliche to just state that a game is a work of art, but this game deserves such praise more than most. So much care and love went into crafting this little gem. The gameplay actually evolves in quite clever and interesting ways as you progress, it’s well paced and never gets stale. A short but sweet adventure. I can’t say I completely understand what the hell that story was about, but I had an absolute blast playing anyway and it successfully made me very curious about this world and feel a variety of emotions throughout the narrative journey. Looking forward to the YouTube lore videos haha! It’s just a great time all around. Double Fine delivers the goods yet again!

I’ll mirror what I said yesterday though and note that the experience is definitely better on PC due to a much superior framerate. A few shader stutters here and there, but overall way, way smoother and more fluid than XSX. The lack of a performance mode on XSX is really my main complaint here.

@somnambulance I’m glad I’m not alone on this. I’m mostly just seeing hate about this game but I’m really enjoying it. Granted, I’ve only played a couple of other Pokemon games, so I’m not a die hard like a lot of people, but it’s still fun. The graphics are nowhere near as bad as I’ve been reading, the windows look less than great but otherwise I like the art style. Overall, it’s addictive and fun.

Ball X Pit... It's an absolute gem of a game, very, very, addictive.
Also played lots of Battlefield 6 which is just too much fun online.

@somnambulance this is definitely some of the most fun I’ve had with a Pokemon game. I agree, there’s some issues and short comings, but the main gameplay loop (which is what I play for) is a ton of fun and I really like the concept of climbing the ranks. The tutorial can definitely be a bit much, but like you said, it’s meant to help the kids that are playing it. When my eight year old jumps into it it’ll be perfect for him.

I hear you on the coziness of it. I was planning on waiting until my winter vacation to really sink some time into it, but I’m hooked. It just feels like the perfect game for a cold, snowy day by the Christmas tree. I can’t wait that long after already starting it.

The environment itself isn’t anything special to look at but the characters and Pokemon themselves really pop and look gorgeous for the style they’re going for. I know it helps that I don’t play a ton of Pokemon games but I really don’t think my opinion would change if it did.

I still haven’t played Digimon but I’m hearing great things. I agree though, how about we just enjoy both for what they are, they aren’t trying to be the exact same game, so enjoy in their own way.
