Battlefield 6 Boss: 'The Only Reason COD Exists Is Because EA Were D*cks'

Call of Duty vs. Battlefield has been a long-standing rivalry in the gaming biz; two FPS titans that often trade blows as publishers Activision and EA hope to reign supreme. With BF6 out in the wild, veteran developer Vince Zampella has now had a major hand in both of these franchises - and in a new interview, he had some interesting things to say about them.

To give a bit of background - Zampella worked at EA on the Medal of Honor series back in the day, before moving over to Activision to start the Call of Duty franchise. Despite the vet designer now returning to EA to head up Battlefield 6, he's not holding back on his opinion of the BF6 publisher from way back when. "The only reason that Call of Duty exists is because EA were d*cks", he says.

Of course, what Zampella is referring to here is basically the reason he moved over to Activision; a disagreement over Medal of Honor that inspired him to go make a direct rival with the Call of Duty publisher. In the end, that move didn't work out either - Zampella famously fell out with Acitivision during the making of 2009's Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

Despite these frank remarks about EA, Zampella must have healed those wounds a while ago; the developer has now worked on Apex Legends, the Star Wars Jedi games, the Titanfall series and Battlefield 6 with the mega-publisher. To that end, things seem to be going a lot smoother between the two parties nowadays!

And, well, you can't deny the results. Pretty much everything that Zampella has touched at EA has been a hit, so it's probably best to keep him on-side in future. Battlefield 6 has now joined that list of hits, as Zampella continues to establish himself as one of the FPS greats.
