Re: Two Games Are Available Today With Xbox Game Pass (July 17)

RiverGenie

I got Robocop in a sale after a few mentions on here about it being pretty good.

While I thought it captures the essence of the franchise really well I got bored of the repetitive game play and got distracted by other game so I never finished it.

Worth a look for sure but it just didn't quite hit the spot for me personally.

Re: Neverwinter Nights 2: Enhanced Edition Is Out Now On Xbox, Early Reviews Are Quite 'Mixed'

RiverGenie

If you have a pc there is probably no benefit getting this as you can already mod the existing versions beyond what this offer. However for us console folks who have an interest in old school rpgs you can have some fun with this.

It has some old school mechanical jank & its certainly not as polished as the likes of BG3. Even so I have enjoyed my time so far and will certainly be continuing my journey through this classic Obsidian adventure.

Not had any game breaking issues in the 7 or so hours i have been able to play so far.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (July 12-13)

In between trying not to drown in a puddle of sweat I might play a bit of the new season in Diablo 4 but its too hot at the moment to spend too much time gaming.

That and I don't want to commit to anything too time consuming with Neverwinter Nights 2 enhanced edition launching next week. Hopefully it won't have any technical issue & I can dive fully into the D&D goodness.

Finally playing through Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty. It goes without saying that I am having a ton of fun. Its refreshing to play a game that treats me like an adult and doesn't pull its punches when it comes to its narrative.

CDPR done good with this one and good on them for not giving up on the project after its rough initial reception (which it deserved.)

Re: State Of Decay 3 Has Gone Quiet, But Apparently It's Safe At Xbox

RiverGenie

@Ricky-Spanish and its not like Sony have a spotless record when it comes to game closures. What is the cancelled / limbo count on their live service games push?

Both companies are about equally ***** splattered in that regard, neither smell of rose petals & unicorn farts. As much as some folks pretend otherwise (side eyes Push Square)

Re: State Of Decay 3 Has Gone Quiet, But Apparently It's Safe At Xbox

RiverGenie

The recent events have solidified my reasons for not being excited for game that are more than a couple of months away.

Gaming has never had any guarantees for employees or consumers as much as I would wish it were different for both sides

Seems the only folks who get to smile at the end of the day are top execs (& for the most part share holders.). It's a tough world for most other folks though, sigh.

Will be finishing up Hordes of the Underdark in Neverwinter Nights Enhanced Edition.

Its been a fun but sometimes frustrating journey through this old school classic. Emphasis on old school which is where some of the frustration comes from. Still i had more fun than not so was worth my time. Neverwinter Nights 2 EE launches mid July and i am looking forward to diving into that.

Between now & then I am thinking of diving into Cyberpunk 2077 and finally playing Phantom Liberty. I also have WH40K Rogue Trader as a option too following a recent release of a new story dlc.

Definitely leaning towards CP 2077 at the moment though as I have played a lot of traditional crpgs recently so a change of pace would be welcome.

Re: Forza Motorsport Studio Said To Be 'Bracing' For Job Cuts At Xbox

RiverGenie

That would be a shame because with the last track update it really felt like they turned towards the positive. For certain I have been having an easier time finding full races even in non peak hours.

While its still not hitting GT7 levels in terms of easy access to multiplayer racing it seemed to me that it was going in the right direction.

Of course at the moment we shouldn't treat this as anything other than an unconfirmed rumour and remain hopeful for everyone involved at all these studios.

Re: Xbox Data Shows 'Most' Console Owners Are Playing On Other Devices As Well, Says Exec

RiverGenie

I own a Series X and a PS5.

The majority of my gaming is done on the Series X and most game purchases are for that console.

My PS5 is used for GT7 for the most part and I will buy the odd game in a sale if it's cheaper on that platform.

I will never get a handheld and while gamepass offers me value I have no interest in getting back into pc gaming.

So I guess I am not part of the "most" this exec is referring to.

Re: Bungie Delays Xbox Shooter Marathon After Mixed Feedback To 2025 Alpha

RiverGenie

Well it seems its taking a lot of time to remove all the stolen assests or something.

While its probably better to delay than have another Concord release I have a feeling this will be DOA regardless unless they have a major change in direction.

Still either way not a good look for Sony with yet another multiplayer game in trouble.

Re: Minecraft's Vibrant Visuals Update Officially Releases On Xbox This Week

RiverGenie

@Kaloudz the parity is the reason that Ray Tracing was dropped and received no further support from Mojang. They wanted something that works on all their bedrock platforms and yes that includes last gen consoles & mobile (I believe the only exception being the OG switch.)

Taking that into consideration I think they have done a decent job with vibrant visuals and set the game up with a good foundation.

In the near future I expect we will see mods appear (paid & free) that will push the visual eye candy much further on each platform.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (June 14-15)

RiverGenie

I have been on a bit of an old school D&D vibe this past week after playing through Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition on gamepass. So will be starting Baldur's Gate 2 over the weekend.

Also been playing Neverwinter Night Enhanced Edition on my PS5 and while that is a bit more clunky I am still enjoying my time. (Has me excited to get NWN 2 EE when that is released next month.)

Re: Outer Worlds 2 Director Responds To Xbox's Expensive $80 Price Tag

RiverGenie

I went the premium upgrade route and used my points to get money off that. It cost me £20 for 2 dlc & early access with base game via gamepass.

I will likely buy base game in a future sale which is something i tend to do when i get these premium upgrade options.

Yes the premium edition is expensive (UK £89.99 with base game only at £69.99), however there are options to ease that cost on xbox at least. The most obvious is gamepass or going the upgrade route if you want the dlc too.

I haven't not enjoyed an Obsidian game and I dont expect that to change with The Outer Worlds 2.

Re: Dune: Awakening Xbox Release Announced For 2026 As PC Reviews Go Live

RiverGenie

@Fiendish-Beaver while Funcom seem to want to avoid the term Its an mmo. I believe its pretty solo friendly and most things are achievable on your own. In end game I think there is an element of pvp, avoidable pvp but the risk is still there however small (I think you lose resources / inventory but keep equipped gear if you are player killed.)

I wish they had gone the Conan Exiles route so you could have private servers as I am so done dealing with mmo player nonsense these days.

It looks pretty cool to be fair but yeah mmo's 🤔
