Personally, I keep playing the old school way as I'm waiting for a physical edition to buy.
I bought the first Hellblade, like that. Just after having played it on Gamepass. And i'll do the same for the second one if it ever comes to physical.
Also, I'm waiting for that Limited Run Hi Fi Rush edition. But now I'm tempted to get it on PS5, over Xbox, just because reasons...
People who are trying to defend those decisions are making guesses, maybe educated ones, but guesses nevertheless.
This decision was SO UNPOPULAR and generally perceived as SO EVIL (including by myself) that Microsoft NEEDS to be absolutely crystal clear on its reasons, on this one.
The general opinion absolutely cannot be satisfied by their usual "Trust me, bro, it's all for the greater good".
Not after Hi-Fi Rush, the ONLY game that saved their year in the general opinion.
I'm loving my Series X, I really do. I have tons of incredible games to play on it, from various generations, and I'm keeping this superb piece of hardware close to my chest and I'm never letting it go.
But I swear this is the last time I buy a Microsoft console. And I'm saying that as a proud owner of every Xbox ever released.
But this is just too much. This was the final call.
I also have the others consoles from Nintendo and Sony. And I shall continue to play only on those, from now on.
But we all know that even Star field is going to release on Playstation, so...
I don't get the hate about that, really.
The game is clearly designed to look like a movie, so even if it is a technique to save up some resources, I'm all fine with it.
30 fps, black bars on top and bottom. Short length. It's a cinema scope adventure. And I'm all-in for that.
And yes, it really reminds me of The Order 1886. A game (interactive movie ?) that I loved very much.
I'm all in for the 30 fps / Quality team, but I don't know, for this game, I'm eager to test this 60 frames mode. Maybe because we can play the game in first person view, and I think for this kind of game, 60 is probably the way.
I'm quoting the great philosopher Dua Lipa : "LET'S GET PHYSICAL !!"
God damn it, it's not hard to understand : for a game of that caliber, and at this price, you need to put it on shelves, so people can see it in shops, and you know... buy it.
I know that I'm still waiting myself. And I know that I'm not alone.
@ZYDIO I honestly don't understand what's happening with this game, right now. I can only think it's all about the "live-service" thing, which disappointed fans of the franchise the second it was announced.
And I can understand that. Truly, I can. It's all on Warner : live-service, 20 bucks skins (20 !!!), etc.
But the truth is that Rocksteady actually delivered a hell of a game. I play it only solo, with IA as partners (and you can switch between the squads anytime) and this game just amaze me.
It's a real cinematic experience, with great, great (really great !) cut scenes, a truly very good - and surprising - DC story, and some amazing performances from the actors (especially Tara Strong, excellent as always in the role of Harley Quinn, and Daniel Lapaine, who delivers an extraordinary version of Captain Boomerang - and let's not forget it is the last work of the great late Kevin Conroy as Batman). I'm rooting with these characters, eager to see what's coming next for them, and from time to time, laughing my a** out loud to some really good jokes I did not see coming.
This game even made me want to buy (and I did) some DC animes I did not own, at the time, in bluray - like Suicide Squad Assault on Arkham or Hell to Pay.
Plus, the gameplay loop is really addictive : every character plays differently, I mainly play Harley myself (lvl 20 for now) and I already know that I'm gonna lvl all the others characters.
I may even dive into the multiplayer thing for the endgame, but as I play essentially for the story, we'll see.
I sincerely believe that this game will be given a second chance the second it enters the gamepass program. Which, honestly, has to happen soon if Warner intends the game to survive.
I know it's all about Helldivers, right now, but I'm personally completely hooked to Suicide Squad. It simply is the most fun I had in gaming since a very long time.
Sure, as DC fan, I cannot be totally objective, but the gameplay is so good, the game so beautifull and these incredible actors so devoted to their roles that I'm just always thinking about it.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, for sure, but as far as I'm concerned, I'm freakin' loving this game so far.
The graphics are really, really good, the gameplay is fun and addictive as hell, and the cut-scenes / general acting is just stellar. I'm playing this as a DC fan, and it makes me want to watch again some DC films as soon as I'll have completed the game.
As for the Live Service thing, it's all on Warner, not Rocksteady, and I don't bother as I play this game solo (and a real offline mode is coming soon, so we'll be able to keep the game if / when they shut down their servers).
I'm lovin' it.
Edit : Hell, it even made me buy Gotham Knights, cause now I want to give this one a chance, too. And I'm sure I'll enjoy it also.
@Banjo- Yeah, the way this game is generally considered (as a semi-failure) is beyond me. The only grip I can genuinely make about it is the promise of multiplayer campaign in split-screen, which never happened an became, well... a lie. Sure, this function seems almost irrelevant nowadays, but they should not have promised that in the first place.
Outside of this question, Halo Infinite remains for me one of the true jewels of the Series X.
Glad to see Halo Infinite getting some love as I've always routed against the general negative narrative on this one. I loved every second of its campaign and enjoyed quite a lot of multiplayer games (a thing I usually never do).
It still remains one of my go-to games, and I suspect it will stay that way for a long time.
I think they're on the right path - they really seem to have listened to the critics. It will stay something different than the games (the famous "silver timeline") but still, maybe something that more fans can enjoy.
I believe it will be good, doing its own thing.
I really feel like a kid who suspects his parents are gonna divorce, and they take me apart, whispering to my ear : "Next week, son. We're gonna tell you everything next week. But don't worry, kid. Just... wait. Next week. You'll see. Trust me. Everything is gonna be all right. There's no such things as problems. Only solutions. You'll see..."
@UndyingInsurgent95 "EXcLuSivEs (...) do matter and they're the reason why Nintendo is still around and crushing it." That is the truth, pure and absolute, my friend. And I think what's happening right now is a form of confession : Xbox lost this battle. So they'll go the Sega way. And that makes me feel sad, cause I do love this brand since the very first Xbox with its impossible Duke controller and this extraordinary exclusive title, which I had bought the console for and that was called... HALO.
I've tried it at launch, and went back very quickly to Forza 7, which I find a lot more fun, accessible and beautiful. So, for my racing purposes, I stick to FM7 and Horizon 5 on Xbox, and GT7 on PSVR2 (VR is really cool for this kind of game).
But Forza 7 stays my favorite. A shame it cannot be bought by new players nowadays, except if you find a used copy of it... and on the condition you're not playing on Series S :/
@PJOReilly I just wanted to thank you for this excellent review, which managed to completely reverse what I thought of this game. Now, I've bought it, and that's entirely on you !
Yes, yes, the online-live-service thing, yes. But correct me if I'm wrong, Rocksteady confirmed they would soon patch the game to make it accessible completely offline. So, even if they pull the plug one day, the game and its story won't disappear like some vaulted Destiny thing.
And to be honest, for a DC fan (that's me), the story and its interpretation, here, seem really cool.
Oh, and I very much liked The Division 2 and even Anthem (despite its evidents flaws)
Anyway, to sum up : thanks for giving us your real opinion, even if it contradicts what seems to be the general expectation ("Yo this game suxx, yo").
You convinced me that I would like the game just the way you did.
Everything I can get physical, I get. I'm waiting right now for my Tekken 8 copy, for example. And I know : I would already play it if I had gone the digital way. But I buy digital, too, from time to time. When there's sales on the Xbox store, sales so good that you just can't say no...
But it's inevitable, I know. For the Xbox brand, at least. The gamepass model just accelerated the process. I give Sony one more generation before the all digital era. Xbox, it's gonna be their next console, that's a given.
I'm feeling like Duncan Mc Leod, right now. Among the very last of my kind. Still buying my games on disc, even on Xbox, every time I can. I have Starfield on disc, for example. And I'm waiting for my physical copy of Baldur's gate III, still on Xbox.
Also, I'm still buying movies, on bluray, and on bluray 4K. And even on that market, it has become incredibly hard : right now, you have to be quick, you have to preorder a movie as soon as it is announced, because it'll be very quickly established "out of stock". The Mandalorian, for example, is sold out in my country, even before its official release date. And it's an old series, that every fan has already seen.
But it is what it is. The next Xbox, if any, will be all digital. We all know that. Playstation ? Maybe a generation more, but at most.
So, I know. This is the future. I have to accept it.
He already said that he's essentially playing in the evening, instead of watching TV, like most people do. It's his passion, and it's his job. You've got to respect the man on that !
I'm torn apart about something really stupid, and that's the design of this WD card, that I don't like. The Seagate just feels more natural for the console design, while this one really feels like something that should not be here.
But, hey, it's on the back on the console so... and there's a 50 bucks difference at the moment, in my usual shop, so... maybe the hell with it.
@BacklogBrad I couldn't agree more with what you just wrote.
Cloud gaming is a doomed idea, from the beginning, for me, just because of... phones, really. When you see the power of those phones that everyone is buying, the concept of cloud gaming, in itself, just becomes irrelevant.
Plus, they're often comparing it to streaming services, like Netflix and co, but for this kind of streaming, they don't need a huge computer running something for every user that is accessing the service. Streaming videos and streaming video GAMES are totally different things, structurally.
Can't wait to finally make the jump into Cyberpunk... Three years of waiting should absolutely pay off ! Have to finish my first Starfield run before, thought. I'll try to stick to the main story, and I'll play more with the world and game mechanics later, on a new game +.
I know that discs and disc-drives are going to disappear, but until they do, I'm gonna hold on to them. I keep buying games on disc on Xbox (bought Starfield, recently), but also, I'm a huge fan of 4k bluray movies. They play like a charm on Series X.
Digital Foundry warned everyone months ago : the race to the best graphics (and / or the largest universes) possible will put 30fps as the norm again.
And honestly, I'm among those who are perfectly fine with it.
Loved every second of A Plague Tale Requiem, of Jedi Survivor, of Spider-Man Miles Morales and now of Starfield. And I've played all of these games in 30 fps.
I like the cinematic feeling of it, and the possibility to play with the best graphics available on my hardware.
But I can hear the voices of those who want to have a choice, and go the fps way.
Performance RT seems the way to go, then, but I'm willing to give a try at this Quality mode, since I play Horizon on that mode, and given that my favorite race game from the previous game was a 30fps game (Driveclub).
@FraserG It's all good and I'm more than beyond happy but... where's your review, guys ? I was dying to read yours comments on this fantastic experience... I know they didn't send you codes before launch (I honestly cannot understand why, as you're the best Xbox-ressource website avalaible, in my opinion)... but surely you got at least an early access, right ? Where's your review ? I want to read it ^^
@ZuneTattooGuy Oh, I know that. It will come to an end, and that's the natural way of things (nobody on PC seems to regret it).
But for the moment, I'm sticking to physical whenever I can, cause I'm seeing it as as a sort of "physical-tranportable-and-untied-to-any account-licensing". Like : I still can lend games to friends, or family, I can still decide to keep it in my collection or resell it to my local store.
Maybe someday we will be able to that digitally (I'm not particulary up to the page on it, but isn't that what NFT is supposed to be ?).
But I know physical is going to disappear, and I've accepted it, don't worry
I just found a brand new copy of this good old Phantasy Star Universe, before its price eventually skyrocket. Been wanting to replay this one for a long time, now. And this article motivated me to not wait anymore.
Since I bought the physical edition (yes, the one with an actual disc - with probably nothing on it, but still) I'll have to wait a little to join the fun. One of the downside of resisting the all-digital era, I guess. Not a problem. This one is worth it !
I stopped months ago, because... BACKLOG, you know. It was just impossible, for me, to continue like that. And I'm still playing mainly on Xbox. But too many games, man. And not enough time.
Also, I plan to buy Starfield. I want to buy that one. Not rent it.
I totally agree with him. Consistency is the key, here.
And, you know, I dont know exactly how, but... there's good 30 fps AND bad 30 fps. It depends on the game, on the feeling it provides.
Like : Spider-Man, on PS5. Everybody is praising its performance mode, or its RT performance mode, but personally, I just could not stand it. The picture quality was not that great, in these modes, in my opinion. But in Quality mode, (so 30 fps) the game was absolutely outstanding. The picture was gorgeous, but most of all, the game never felt "laggy" in my mind, 30 fps or not. It was very smooth, very constant. And I'm planning to play Spider-Man 2 like that.
Oh, and Starfield, too. I know I don't have the choice for this one, but still. 30 FPS for that game will be great. It really will be.
This is really great, but I can't help myself to think that Everwild will probably never see the light of day... Come on, Rare ! Sea of Thieves is great, but give us something else' already !
I don't know why some people even thought, for a second, that this beautiful and open world could ever run at 60 fps on a current machine. It's really not a resolution question.
Something of that scale was always supposed to run at 30, and that's perfectly fine. I did A Plague Tale at 30, Jedi Survivor at 30, even Miles Morales, on PS5, at 30,etc... and it was fine. Really, it was (I'm personally among the few people who always choose fidelity mode over the performance one).
Digital Foundry themselves explained it sometime ago : we have to get used to that, and it's not a question of power. Because when the new consoles will be launched, developers will push even further their game's graphics, and the "problem" (which is not a problem, in my opinion) will remain the same : 30fps fidelity or 60 with very reduced assets and / or resolution.
But let's be honest, here : of all the genres that could be affected by that phenomenon, RPG is probably the one for which it is the most ok.
It's not a problem, for a RPG, where the main goal is to explore and to wonder, to discover beautiful landscapes, universes and to immerse yourself, well, in other worlds.
Off course I bought one. I had to. Cause I think I've never been so excited by a game and its possibilities. The amount of passion, and details, that has been poured into this "space game" is outstanding.
Nobody is ever going to toggle something like that on a console he bought for so much money.
Everything about the "turn off completely" feature is good (I'm doing it all the time) but something that will effect your gaming experience is a total nonsense, in my opinion.
It has to be done. The only one episode not avalaible on Xbox.
I also tried to get into the game many times, but never suceeded in it. The game is just too old school in its mechanics, I presume. At least, for me.
So right now, I've not yet played any Witcher game. I have 2 and 3 on my Xbox storage, but I was waiting to finally get the strenght to finish the first one on steam, before.
Not a problem anymore, I guess, and that's cool.
Oh, but I did read the books, all of them. And they're just extraordinary. To every fan of the games, you should definitly try to read them.
What I found amazing if the fact that if you look closely, you'll see that there is something of Chris Pratt in this Mario face, and something of Jack Blake in this Bowser.
Clearly, the animators had these people in minde when they established their design. It's very subtile, something in the eyes, I don't know what, that match particulary well with these voices.
It's just that I liked the fact that my disc had an actual purpose, outside of its collector value. But Golden Eye will probably be 10, or 15 bucks, so...
I don't want to be that guy, but what about the three of us who own rare replay ON DISC ? Is there a way to get it for free also, but to be able to play it only if you put the disc on the console ?
I know that my question seems so last decade, but still. xD
All of the fun of this multiplayer was in the fact that it was a split-screen option.
As for the online on Switch, it has nothing to do with the game, it is a function built within its emulator, since the beginning (which allows to play Mario Kart online, for exemple).
BUT one thing that I'm glad for, on Xbox, is that I'll be able to OWN the game, not just RENT it.
It's on gamepass, yeah, but we'll have the option to buy it, too. Hell, those of us who already posess the Rare Collection (my case) will be able to get it for free !
On Nintendo, there is absolutely no other way than NSO+ to play this game. And that, for me, is a BIG difference.
@Snake_V5 My understanding is that Sony is the publisher for console version, not for PC.
Also, I'm not sure about it, but I think I've read somewhere that Sony itself is publishing its PC versions, now ? So if it's the case, a Death Stranding sequel would never follow this path and come to Gamepass.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (October 14-15)
Curiously, after having tried the new Forza, which didn't really hooked on me, I've begun to play again... Forza 7.
I don't know, maybe I'm wrong, but everything in this entry seems better, from my point of view, than the new one.
Maybe I'll dig further, another time, but for now, I just want to play Forza Motorsport 7 !
EDIT : Oh, and off course, I keep playing in the Starfield !
Re: 343: Halo Infinite's New Forge AI Toolkit Is A 'Huge' Game Changer
Wait... so basically, we can create our own Halo levels ? Like, for a solo player ?
That sounds incredible !
Re: Talking Point: Will You Be Buying The Early Access For Forza Motorsport?
No, but I'm seriously considering to get back into gamepass for this game. You know, to check it out.
Re: Ubisoft CEO Explains Decision To Buy ActiBlizz Cloud Rights From Xbox
@BacklogBrad I couldn't agree more with what you just wrote.
Cloud gaming is a doomed idea, from the beginning, for me, just because of... phones, really. When you see the power of those phones that everyone is buying, the concept of cloud gaming, in itself, just becomes irrelevant.
Plus, they're often comparing it to streaming services, like Netflix and co, but for this kind of streaming, they don't need a huge computer running something for every user that is accessing the service. Streaming videos and streaming video GAMES are totally different things, structurally.
Re: These 30+ Games Are Coming To Xbox Next Week (September 25-29)
Can't wait to finally make the jump into Cyberpunk... Three years of waiting should absolutely pay off !
Have to finish my first Starfield run before, thought. I'll try to stick to the main story, and I'll play more with the world and game mechanics later, on a new game +.
Re: Xbox Series X All-Digital Console Refresh Planned For Late 2024
I know that discs and disc-drives are going to disappear, but until they do, I'm gonna hold on to them.
I keep buying games on disc on Xbox (bought Starfield, recently), but also, I'm a huge fan of 4k bluray movies. They play like a charm on Series X.
Re: New Starfield Test Suggests It Could Run At 40-60FPS On Xbox Series X
Digital Foundry warned everyone months ago : the race to the best graphics (and / or the largest universes) possible will put 30fps as the norm again.
And honestly, I'm among those who are perfectly fine with it.
Loved every second of A Plague Tale Requiem, of Jedi Survivor, of Spider-Man Miles Morales and now of Starfield. And I've played all of these games in 30 fps.
I like the cinematic feeling of it, and the possibility to play with the best graphics available on my hardware.
But I can hear the voices of those who want to have a choice, and go the fps way.
Re: Forza Motorsport Launches With Three Performance Modes On Xbox Series X
Performance RT seems the way to go, then, but I'm willing to give a try at this Quality mode, since I play Horizon on that mode, and given that my favorite race game from the previous game was a 30fps game (Driveclub).
Re: Call Of Duty's Biggest Ever Xbox Sale Is Now Live, 40+ Deals Included
Ok, I'm willing to finally let myself discover this franchise, but only for single player content (I'm very not into multiplayer).
Which ones of those classics have the best campaigns ?
Re: Ready For Launch! Starfield Is Now Available On Xbox Game Pass
I want to read it ^^
Re: 'Xbox Console Wraps' Are Launching This Year, Pre-Orders Available Now
I must admit I'm very much tempted by the Starfield one.
Would be perfect to match the game and the controller.
Re: Starfield Preloads Now Live, 100GB+ Download Size On Xbox & PC
Re: A Bunch Of Great Xbox 360 Games Will Be Delisted Forever Next Year
I just found a brand new copy of this good old Phantasy Star Universe, before its price eventually skyrocket.
Been wanting to replay this one for a long time, now. And this article motivated me to not wait anymore.
Re: Starfield Preloads Now Live, 100GB+ Download Size On Xbox & PC
Since I bought the physical edition (yes, the one with an actual disc - with probably nothing on it, but still) I'll have to wait a little to join the fun.
One of the downside of resisting the all-digital era, I guess.
Not a problem. This one is worth it !
Re: Poll: Will You Stay Subscribed To Xbox Game Pass After The Price Hike?
I stopped months ago, because... BACKLOG, you know. It was just impossible, for me, to continue like that.
And I'm still playing mainly on Xbox. But too many games, man. And not enough time.
Also, I plan to buy Starfield. I want to buy that one. Not rent it.
Re: Todd Howard Explains Why Starfield At 30FPS Will 'Feel Great' On Xbox Series X|S
Re: Here's The Latest Xbox Game Studios & Bethesda Roadmap (June 2023 Version)
This is really great, but I can't help myself to think that Everwild will probably never see the light of day... Come on, Rare ! Sea of Thieves is great, but give us something else' already !
Re: Digital Foundry Posts Huge Breakdown On Why Starfield Runs At 30FPS On Xbox
Did I mention I just cannot wait for this game ?
Re: Xbox's New Starfield Controller Includes A Special Dynamic Background For Series X|S
Off course I bought one. I had to.
Cause I think I've never been so excited by a game and its possibilities. The amount of passion, and details, that has been poured into this "space game" is outstanding.
For all, into the Starfield.
Re: Microsoft Exploring New Graphics Options To Reduce Power Consumption On Xbox
Nobody is ever going to toggle something like that on a console he bought for so much money.
Everything about the "turn off completely" feature is good (I'm doing it all the time) but something that will effect your gaming experience is a total nonsense, in my opinion.
Re: 'The Witcher Remake' Announced, Development Has Already Begun
I knew it !
Re: Xbox Exec Gives His Thoughts On The Super Mario Movie Trailer
What I found amazing if the fact that if you look closely, you'll see that there is something of Chris Pratt in this Mario face, and something of Jack Blake in this Bowser.
Clearly, the animators had these people in minde when they established their design. It's very subtile, something in the eyes, I don't know what, that match particulary well with these voices.
I loved it !
Re: These 11 Games Are Leaving Xbox Game Pass Today (September 15)
I bought A Plague Tale in physical, just to keep this gem in my collection (and to support the devs).
looking for the sequel, now !
Re: Gallery: Here Are The First GoldenEye 007 Screenshots For Xbox
@Banjo- You know what ? I will, probably ^^
It's just that I liked the fact that my disc had an actual purpose, outside of its collector value.
But Golden Eye will probably be 10, or 15 bucks, so...
Re: Gallery: Here Are The First GoldenEye 007 Screenshots For Xbox
I don't want to be that guy, but what about the three of us who own rare replay ON DISC ? Is there a way to get it for free also, but to be able to play it only if you put the disc on the console ?
I know that my question seems so last decade, but still. xD
Re: Xbox Issues Statement About Lack Of Online Multiplayer In GoldenEye 007
Re: Death Stranding Officially Joins Xbox Game Pass For PC Next Week
@Snake_V5 My understanding is that Sony is the publisher for console version, not for PC.
Also, I'm not sure about it, but I think I've read somewhere that Sony itself is publishing its PC versions, now ? So if it's the case, a Death Stranding sequel would never follow this path and come to Gamepass.
