Re: The Best Xbox Soulslike Games NOT Made By FromSoftware

Jenkinss

Remnant 2 isn't just my favorite game on this list; it's my favorite co-op game of all time. Incredible design, the secrets are amazing, infinitely replayable, and the expansions are even better than the base game and integrate flawlessly. It also has my favorite story of games on this list. The closest thing I can compare it to is the fantasy elements of Halo, which I love. Go at it with 2 friends and it's a real ride.

Re: Four Games Are Confirmed For Xbox Game Pass In June 2025 So Far

@Fiendish-Beaver Not entirely sure on that, I only played the intro of the Oblivion remaster when Clair Obscur took my attention. No knock on Oblivion, but when there's two 11 out of 10 games at the same time, you've gotta pick. All my comments were more based on the originals. I believe Digital Foundry has a video on the performance issues which I haven't gotten a chance to watch myself yet.

For my part, Oblivion was by far my least favorite of ES 3-5 mainly because of severe issues with the way level scaling worked (and to a much lesser extent, I like the settings of Morrowind and Skyrim more than Cyrodil). I hear it's been fixed, so I can't wait to go through it without all that frustration. The only thing I can think of to compare it to was The Last Remnant on 360 which also had atrocious level scaling issues, which then were somewhat addressed on the PC version.

Anyway, glad it's on your backlog, it's a 20 year old game - no need to drop everything to play it. I just wanted you to know that (IMO) the big modernization/accessibility jump happened after Morrowind and much less after Oblivion, so if you really love Skyrim, I don't think you're going to dislike it for that reason.

Re: Minecraft's New Graphics Upgrade Is Now Available On Xbox

@themightyant I legitimately believe that Minecraft with RT at Series X launch would have changed the entire history of video games and MS would still be a legitimate contender in the console space. I'm not even a Minecraft guy but there really isn't a more important game on consoles, it would have been THE killer app this gen.

I just cannot see me getting round to Oblivion because I have a feeling it will look new, but play old, and I like my games to feel modern. I've not played it before, but I just have this sense it may not be for me despite having loved Skyrim...

I think you would love Oblivion if you still love Skyrim, but not Morrowind which is my favorite but definitely "plays old.". I had a notebook I used to get me through Morrowind because its quest log is completely useless, but I was used to that having mapped so many blobber crpgs. I don't know if I have the patience now.

Don“t worry (if you REALLY worry) about 3rd party support on the next Xbox. It will be, basically, a PC, so thirds will have to do nothing, just release the game for PC, and it will run directly on the Xbox machine under the TV.

You can find posts from me on this site from last year saying MS has no choice but to do this if they are going to continue making hardware.

Re: Xbox Handheld Gets Leaked, First Photos And Details Revealed

Jenkinss

@Millionski depending on what the Xbox handheld actually is, it matters a lot. If the Xbox handheld plays existing Xbox games, it's a big deal, while this thunder stealing nothingburger isn't.

Also not that I care because it's pretty irrelevant but your steamdeck numbers are wildly off, like 50%~.

Re: Opinion: If Xbox Is 'Just' A Game Pass Machine, That's Still Enough For Me

I'm more than fine riding out this gen with Xbox which is indeed more than a gamepass machine. But there's too little info for next gen to pretend there's no chance I'll go back to just PC gaming.

Taken literally, "just a game pass machine" is not enough for me. The most important games to me are usually not on game pass. If 3rd parties without game pass deals pull support in increasing numbers (which is the natural state for any console with declining sales, see the Saturn, Dreamcast, Gamecube, Wii U to name a few), then no, a game pass machine isn't for me.

My most played games on Xbox in 2024 were Remnant 2 (purchased long before it was added to game pass), Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth, WH40K Rogue Trader, Dragon's Dogma 2 (my GOTY), Elden Ring (DLC), WH40K Darktide, Diablo 4 (purchased before game pass), Lords of the Fallen, Dead Island 2, and Space Marine 2.

So in my top 10 most played games, 3 were on game pass (when I played them).

if I'm deciding between Xbox or PlayStation right now, I'm leaning 100% towards Xbox.

Well this I can say for certain I would choose the same.

Re: Xbox Handheld Gets Leaked, First Photos And Details Revealed

When info started coming out on this months ago, here's what I said

Releasing this low demand device's main consequence will be customer confusion when they release their dedicated handheld in the next few years. This is the most Xbox move possible, creating L's when no one else would even see an opportunity for one. I would bet this is Aaron Greenberg's brainchild.

And here we go. Article headline "Xbox handheld gets leaked" and not "Asus handheld gets leaked," obviously because of click potential. By the time thee real Xbox handheld comes out, no one is going to care after a year or so of stories about this thing that no one wants. What a total disaster this company is, how did it get this bad? It's so frustrating to watch. I hate myself for still being invested in this.

Re: Talking Point: Will Xbox Game Pass Get A Price Increase This Year?

Jenkinss

Looking back, Xbox Game Pass last received a price increase in July of 2024, when Xbox Game Pass Ultimate jumped from Ā£12.99 / €14.99 / $16.99 per-month to Ā£14.99 / €17.99 / $19.99 per-month. It hasn't even been a year since that announcement, so it surely wouldn't be a great look to announce yet another increase in 2025 as well.

Yes they'd have to be real piles of **** if they increased the price only a year after their July 2024 price increase. Before that, they hadn't increased the price since... July 2023. Oh...

Re: Xbox Achieves Record-Breaking Results In Latest Earnings Report

Jenkinss

As promised, the stats

Q3 FY23 -30%
Q3 FY24 -31%
Q3 FY25 -6%

This isn't bad, this is catastrophic. Those are years 3, 4, and 5 for a console which should peak in years 5 and 6. Remember these percentages are YoY, not off of some baseline, that's why negative anything at this point is horrific. So if Series consoles peaked in year 2, they dropped 30% off peak, then 31% off that lower number, and then 6% below that.

We'll make up a generous number to start with, let's say they sold 2 million consoles in Q3 FY22. That means they sold 1.4 million in Q3 FY23, 966k in FY24, and now 908k in FY25 (when sales should be peaking historically). Xbox 360 sold 2.7 million in Q3 FY211.
