I don't really know the difference between only certain titles and hardly ever on the poll, i picked hardly ever. I replayed Oblivion when the remaster came out, and I replayed Skyrim a few years ago with one of its rereleases. I replayed Remnant From the Ashes after beating Remnant 2 to recontextualize the story and that was very worth it since I didn't understand it the first time. I replayed The Last Remnant (I guess I like to replay games with Remnant in the title?) when it came out on PC and changed a lot of the systems for the better, but that's 15 years ago - so replays for me are very few and far between.
Ball pit, a Breakout roguelike is a genre combo I would have never imagined. Probably the first game since Nintendo's Tetris battle royal that made me just stop in my tracks because of such an unexpected mashup.
I'm 100% sure this is happening, retailers aren't going to carry a $650 console which can't possibly be selling at all because they couldn't sell it for $350 bundled with Diablo 4 when the hardware was far less stale.
@DennisReynolds game pass perks are paid advertisements from free to play games, in a way it's the opposite of them going out and paying for exclusivity. They're not going to turn down advertising revenue from shovelware. I wouldn't equate the two at all.
Everything Microsoft is doing right now is basically the same thing they did back then.
So Microsoft is "basically" shutting down Activision and selling the brand off for $300M? These are nothing alike and the bulk of these layoffs has nothing to do with ABK. Microsoft is cutting vast swathes of employees across all sectors as they are replaced with cheaper foreign labor and AI. Not axing an entire failed acquired company. Beyond laying off staggering amounts of people, there's no similarity, and neither was normal.
@DennisReynolds in case you missed it, Xbox threw in the towel. There's zero chance your hypothetical becomes a reality. And for perspective this is coming from someone who enjoys console competition and exclusivity, an era which started in the 70s and died in the last 3 years. I'm not like most people pretending to be above the "console warring," I'm lamenting its death.
@mikeangry Jez isn't a leaker, he's Microsoft pr. Let's all reminisce about how people said Xbox was no longer being sold in some middle east countries and Jez went nuclear on them (and was hilariously wrong)
@AverageGamer What you're referring to was a restructuring of the company because they bought Nokia a decade ago. "It happens all the time!" No it does not.
@AverageGamer I have never seen mass layoffs like MS has done over the last few years while they have something like 9000 work visa applications open and aggressively replace people with AI.
@ilyn loved every one of those, especially BG2 which was my favorite CRPG for 20 years. But to say no non D&D game matches the infinity engine games - IMO Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous surpassed them all, in both story and systems.
My wife loves this game and got every achievement, maybe I'll try out the coop with her. I know it had couch coop but this sounds way better not tethered on 1 screen.
Then again it might be moot, nothing is tearing her away from Deep Rock Galactic Survivors right now.
This is going to cost MS nothing for the hundreds of game pass subscribers in the EU, a region that so thoroughly rejected the Xbox that Jim Ryan named it Fortress Playstation.
I hope so, as awful as season 1 was I loved season 2. If Netflix picks it up they should actually delist season 1 as I think most people would quit a few episodes in rather than make it to new episodes, just like most people didn't make it to season 2.
@OldGamer999 The problem is, Nadella was shutting down Xbox (2014, not 2021 when he was about to again. or 2025 when is actually doing it). They (Spencer?) convinced him not to by pitching game pass.
Now, game pass has failed by their own metrics. It should have climbed to 100m users, but it stalled at 25 (or 34 if you want to use MS's fudged numbers that include gold).
Are the people who came up with game pass stupid because it failed? Or were they smart because it gave us 10 more years of Xbox? It's a real question, I know it sounds like I'm defending it but either answer is reasonable to me. The whole situation is just sad.
Edit: I'll also add that the last 10 years of gaming between the insanely subsidized Xbox consoles AND insanely subsidized game pass AND game sharing... I'm just glad I was on board this gravy train while it lasted.
Even if they didn't constantly lie, a company in this position would have to say this to keep selling anything at all this generation.
But the fact is these people DO constantly lie. I was the biggest fan in the world of Phil "we bought Bethesda to deliver quality exclusives on Xbox" Spencer.
Why are there 2 different GOTY categories, and E33 isn't on either? Clown shoes.
The only decent awards show was DICE and even that has gone downhill in the past 5 years.
I like Oblivion for remake of the year. Like many games that play like ass on other platforms this gen, it was nearly flawless on XSX with VRR when I played it and I am someone who is sensitive to frame drops.
Game Pass was the Netflix of gaming. Now it's the cable TV of gaming. People wanted a la carte cable packages for DECADES. They shovel all this **** on you, whether its 500 channels or ea/ubisoft/fortnite etc, because they know you'd never pay for it otherwise. Look at the game pass "perks" we get, f2p cosmetic trash. They will never unbundle any of this.
Watched my wife play a lot of it back when it came out but this genre is not for me. My two favorite people in the world are my wife and daughter so I was very happy to fund this.
The system that mass bans people constantly for zero reason, and you have zero recourse. Take it from me, at one time I had 500,000 points (roughly $500) and was temporarily banned for zero reason. Since then I've just been cashing it out.
Why did I have $500 stockpiled? I thought it would be fun to buy the next Xbox console with rewards points! What a time capsule that is. Assuming there was going to be another Xbox console and assuming I would buy it... it was a different time.
@Fiendish-Beaver But would that game even be on the $15 tier day 1? Who wants to rent a game for $30? The fact that Xbox is the only console I play on and visit Xbox centric websites daily and I don't know... they're not going to appeal to anyone with anything they do now with the current structure and pricing. And you can be sure as hell they're not shelling out for the only game that might temporarily undo the negativity, GTA VI.
When Game Pass first came out, I described it to my friends (who almost all bought in) as the Blockbuster game freedom pass, or Gamefly, but way better.
Now, I would unironically go back to either over game pass but "can't" since 1) Blockbuster doesn't exist and 2) Gamefly just isn't worth it for Xbox as we get so few physical games. This boat is so sunk.
I bought it but haven't played it yet because I just convinced all my friends to buy Helldivers 2 and all of us are loving it. Not ready to jump ship yet (har har).
@FraserG There's no way in heck they're paying $10 for ubisoft games per user, but I think it's marketing to get people to swallow the price increase.
My take on this is that they want to remove day 1 games from game pass, as Sony has said very publicly that it's not a sustainable model. I hate Sony, but I believe them on this. Microsoft is just comically full mask off anti-consumer now and there's no way I'm giong to pay $30 a month, you know conversion tricks are going to go away with a 50% price increase. Also the PC price going up to $17, rofl. Incredible.
I can see the intention here, which is to stop putting day 1 games out for the majority of game pass users. Users that want them have to pay the exorbitant $30/mo, and everyone else should switch to standard which is getting 200 more games. The problem is we all got used to ultimate, for many years at $15. They've clearly reversed on that.
