Talking Point: 20 Years Later, How Do You Feel About The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion In 2026?

One of the greatest games of all time imo. Still my favorite Elder Scrolls game.
I prefer the original over the remaster though.

They failed to ship the full game on disc despite releasing a “physical” version, so after holding out so long for what turned out to be deceit I went ahead and put on my eye patch and played the game on pc at a 100% discount. It was ok. It managed to improve some things, take a major step back in other ways (like butchering the aesthetic design choices of the original), and completely sidestep any work to fix the innumerable game breaking bugs and glitches that are a hallmark of Bethesda Softworks.

The remaster was very good obviously there's some technical issues but it's definitely not as bad as some would have you think it's very playable.
But after a while the bells a whistles wear off and it's basically the same game as before.
Granted I completed the original top to bottom aswell.
But it's great for new players I'd say playing this fresh not experience of the older version would be great!
But I voted Skyrim I mean that game is unreal I put weeks into that game I beat the Ebony warrior and legendary dragon and had multiple playthroughs on different versions it's an all time great!

Unreal engine looks really bad in the open world.

Oblivion was groundbreaking but Skyrim is so much more fun to play. Better dungeons, better combat, better music, more drama, more questlines, more environmental variety, more NPC variety.

Oblivion was by far my favorite Elder Scrolls game. Just hooked me more the Skyrim (and Morrowind). It’s a masterpiece despite the usual Bethesda buggyness.

As someone who bought morrowwind and spent 20 minutes on it before selling it back, and bought 5 different copies of skyrim but never played more than 5 hours into any of them, I can soundly say that oblivion is my favorite. Put hundreds of hours into that one. Just a good game all around.

Oblivion was really good. 20 years has gone fast! (And only one other proper elder scrolls in 20years is also sad)

It’s a shame the remastered version was poor. Deserved better.

2. Skyrim

Morrowind was by far my favorite as it was a real RPG, had the best setting, and made the player play the game instead of walking to map markers. Skyrim was my (distant) 2nd fav with the best storylines. Oblivion used to be a distant 3rd caught in a middle ground, like a worse Skyrim, plus its awful enemy scaling. The remaster was terrific and gave me a new appreciation for it. I still like Skyrim more, but it closed the gap some.

Oblivion was good but it was probably my least favourite of the three as the world was a bit generic. The shivering isles was incredible as a final DLC however. I think Morrowind has the more interesting world despite being dated. The lack of fast travel made it great to explore but it was a product of it's time. Skyrim however was probably the most fun to play overall.

Should have Oblivion separate from remaster I played it to death in 2006 and it's DLC and I went back to it again on pc like last year. Hated K/M controls and couldn't be bothered with mods. Family member got the remaster on Steam so I tried with my Ryzen 5600, RX6600 8GB 32GB RAM it was okay inside the sewer little stuttering here and there and I was about suprised. But when I got out nah tanked to like 12fps so I didn't bother thank got I didn't pay for it

For me though Shivering Isles was it's peak base game was meh now Skyrim there's a game
