Re: Report: Xbox Working On Massive Backwards Compatibility Overhaul Called 'Xbox Classics'

Jenkinss

I play a ton of esoteric games so as always, these projects are all or nothing for me. Xbox's current backwards compatibility program does nothing for me, I need to keep my old hardware if I want to play the bulk of my games.

My litmus test is if I can play Culdcept Saga natively, it's a worthy back compat solution.

I have the same feelings about their "play your own games on the cloud" initiative. Sounds exciting until you see them putting 10 games on there at a time. The games I play are never going to make their way there.

@GADG3Tx87 Geforce Now is a platform. Steam is a platform. A PC running Steam isn't a platform, Steam is the platform. This is not a comparison even worth talking about.

Valve is in the drivers seat here. If you think they're going to allow games sold on their platform to work on some PCs but not others, you're crazy. They'll have to start putting an asterisk next to every game saying what hardware configurations are blocked and which aren't? They'll tell Sony to take a hike. I'd take that bet 100 times out of 100, it's easy money. Sony doesn't make Valve a fraction of the money it would require to strongarm them into a change like that.

@GADG3Tx87

1) I have something like 800 games on Steam

2) there are still games coming out that don't have cross play that id rather have on Steam. ER Nightreign and Jump Ship off the top of my head

3) no, Sony can't easily block Steam games from some Windows devices running Steam. You would lose whatever money you're putting down. This isn't something I personally care about since FFVII was the only PS exclusive I felt I was missing.

That said, I'm still baffled by why Microsoft would want to include a store (Steam) on their next Xbox that will, more often than not, offer the same games, available on the Xbox, but at a cheaper price, and that includes day one of release, not just a few months later in a sale.

This gets asked absolutely everywhere, no one has solved this puzzle... except me. (joking smugface here)

Adding Steam etc generates a TON of excitement. Xbox goes from dying to everyone is excited for it instantly with the word Steam. Everyone gets this. The downside is, all those game sales are going to be on Steam, right? Microsoft loses all that money! Again, everyone gets this.

Here's what everyone is missing: Xbox gamers don't buy games. They've been conditioned to stop buying games for many years now. Once again, this is going to be a game pass machine. What Microsoft loses is beans. They're not going to cry when they lose their 30% of the 22,000 copies of FF16 sold. They are however going to totally rejuvenate the brand because hey, you CAN play Helldivers 2, God of War, and DOTA2 on it!

Having Steam on an Xbox console is a huge press win and a minimal revenue loss for Microsoft.

And is the next Xbox going to be manufactured by Microsoft or farmed out to 3rd parties? She certainly doesn't differentiate their console and handheld in that video, and it's widely believed their own handheld has been dumped. Many outlets wrote articles this week saying the Asus ROG Xbox is the future of Xbox consoles and this video IMO just added fuel to that fire.

Re: Hands On: Not Gonna Lie, I'm Enjoying MindsEye On Xbox Right Now

Jenkinss

I'm not going to play this game because it's not really my genre and I have no time, it's just not on my radar. I'm just here to say that over polished games suck. You can polish the fun right out of a game. I fell out of love with Blizzard when this happened decades ago. A lot of people don't just accept jank, they prefer it, and even seek it out. An easy example is all of us excited for the Gothic remake aren't here despite how unpolished Gothic was - we're here because of it.

Some more Xbox related examples:
I loved the first Two Worlds, and I bounced off the second
I loved Solasta, and seeing how the budget for the second looks many times bigger, I'm a little worried it will lose its charm.

Re: Xbox First-Party Handheld Plans 'Essentially Cancelled', Claims Report

Jenkinss

People still figuring out what is happening to Xbox hardware like it's February 2024.

"But they SAID there's another console coming! The biggest leap EVER!!!!"

We're getting a ****ing PC with emulated/streamed Xbox games. If you pray to Phil hard enough, they'll release an optional disc drive. Otherwise physical gamers, to quote a head of Xbox, they've "got a console for you"

FWIW I'm not against this idea even though it's fun to clown on. In fact it's the only reason I'm considering getting an "Xbox" next gen, I'm going back to PC anyway, might as well see what they're cooking. It's the people still eating up the obvious lies that I'm really dunking on. The only 4 games people

Re: Lots Of Games Are Reduced By 90-95% In The Xbox Deals Unlocked Sale 2025

Jenkinss

Has there ever been a sale that didn't include XCOM2? I hope everyone has it with even a slight interest in TRPGs because it's the king of the genre.

And while I'm on this tangent I'll also say I normally don't play games with mods (I'm a big "as the devs intended" guy) which makes it easy for me to play everything on console these days, but XCOM2 was an exception, I had so many voice packs. My favorites were the entire crew of the Normandy and the whole cast of Gears 1-3. Optimus Prime as SPARK was also incredible. Made the game go from a 10/10 all timer to a 20/10 for me.

I think the only reason they have done this is because they want to take the franchise to the PlayStation

It's far from the only reason. I feel for fans of 4 and 5, but an overwhelming number of us felt they (the campaigns) were dogs*** and the series was inarguably fading into total irrelevance. They clearly did the math and felt it was more important to bring us back than appeal to fans of 4 and 5. And as far as PS5 goes, Kait as a protagonist vs Marcus would go over with them just as well as it has with us.

Re: Poll: How Would You Grade The Xbox Games Showcase 2025?

Jenkinss

FF7 is an automatic A for me. It's been 28 years... If nothing else was shown, A. I'm not grading for anyone else.

Clockwork Revolution also looks amazing, I love the (new) Wasteland games. inXile's humor on full display, I'm so in.

Keeper and Outer Worlds 2 also both look great

Honorable mention to FFXVI, Grounded 2, and Beast of Reincarnation. Seeing Game Freak on the screen made me sit up really fast.

Out of my top 10 moments from this year's "e3" season, the only things that weren't from this show were Expanse Osiris Reborn (from Owlcat!!!), Atomic Heart 2, and a trailer for Chrono Odyssey.

Proper Warhammer fans will probably get much more from Space Marine's grimdark tale, but if you're a Warhammer newbie playing this simply for a fun third-person shooter, you're not going to get as much out of it. It might actually be better played alongside a rocking soundtrack than listening to these dudes talk incomprehensible war strategies for 8 hours.

I mean... alright but if you aren't turning the volume back up every time Grimskull is on screen, you're doing it wrong.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (June 7-8)

@Ricky-Spanish when I play solo my ceiling is getting to the last boss. I'm just not great at souls games despite so many hours in the Dark Souls series and Elden Ring, and lots of others like LotF and Remnant. I get through them through patience and sheer force of will, not skill.

I've beaten 3 night lords now in co-op with randoms playing ironeye. I'm still learning what to be targeting, how fast I need to be moving, etc. I do find the average skill in this 100x higher than the beta. It's all people who plunked down money for the game, not an open beta. Everyone is at least a little serious. You still run into s***ers but less frequently.

Most of my gaming is co-op with my wife or my friends, but I couldn't get any of them to bite on this with me despite several of them including my wife having beaten Elden Ring. I would definitely be a diff experience on a mic with people I know.

I'm pretty addicted to it.

ER Nightreign and Oblivion

@TapeLoader Loved the Grimrock games, the first one really brought blobbers back after a very long hiatus, sort of like PoE did for isometric crpgs. The first Wizardry got remade and I really want to find time to play it. It inspired pretty much every RPG that's come since, even JRPGs, Yujo Horii himself has said so. Deserves way more recognition. Tangent over
