Re: Review: Alan Wake Remastered - Remedy’s Cult Classic Still Holds Up

BionicDodo

I fairly recently played through Alan Wake faster than any game in recent memory in an attempt to finish it before it was removed from Game Pass. I absolutely loved the atmosphere and Stephen King vibe and rather enjoyed the combat too. Which is all saying something as I generally find 3rd person cinematic action games fairly uninspiring and have failed to get into, or finish, many games that are highly rated.

Re: Talking Point: What's Your Favourite Video Game Sequel?

BionicDodo

There is nothing fantastic about Twitter.

Anyway, moving on, Street Fighter II had to be the biggest leap between a game and its first sequel ever.

As a child, the progression from Wonder Boy to Wonder Boy in Monster Land to Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap blew me away.

Another classic is Day of the Tentacle (the follow up to Maniac Mansion).

Others that were less revolutionary but still ended up being favourites of mine are DOOM II and Monkey Island 2.

I played through Alan Wake over the last week. Most I've binged on one game in ages. I think it really worked with the gripping plot and atmosphere. Don't think it would have worked as well with a protracted play through. I actually own it on PC but had started my playthough on Xbox so plowed through on there before its removal. Just started the follow up chapters on PC.

Re: Wait, Did Sony Just Trademark The Sunset Overdrive IP?

BionicDodo

Given current industry trends I would guess a polished up version of the original game for PS5 is far more likely than a sequel. Maybe a sequel would follow if the first game did well.

As for it coming to Xbox, I can just see the conversation...

"You give us Elder Scrolls VI and we'll give you Sunset Overdrive 2"

Re: Guide: New To MLB The Show? Here Are Five Tips To Help You Get Started On Xbox Game Pass

@UltimateOtaku91 I've only watched baseball recently and had never played a baseball sim until The Show 20 on PS4 when it was on sale for £6 a month or two back. It didn't take me long to pickup the rules for balls, strikes and strike outs etc (enough to be able to happily play/watch a full game anyway) and the game has multiple options for how you want each area to work and allows you to try each one out to find your best fit for pitching, batting and fielding. I was hitting multiple home runs by my second game and am really enjoying it so far. That said, I still get a bit lost with the base running and throwing to bases and find my players not doing what I want them to do. I'm sure that area will come soon though. I'd say give it a try if you have Game Pass!

Really enjoying it so far. Taking a little time getting used to not flooring it and actually using the brake (I've been mostly playing arcade racers for the last few years), but really satisfying when I manage to avoid bumps and crashes for a prolonged stretch. Loved an old version of this game on Vita, so looking forward to getting stuck into a full career.

Re: Phil Spencer Explains Why Xbox Originally Decided To Compete Against PlayStation

BionicDodo

@Kobeandodom I think we're kinda talking about two different things though. I'll grant you that ES6 on Game Pass is a massive win for Xbox gamers and PC gamers (with high spec setups) who subscribe, my issue was with the article suggesting that it somehow benefits gamers in general. It's not a win for PS and Nintendo gamers and both of those platforms shift an awful lot of consoles, so that will likely leave a lot of gamers who don't own a good enough PC or Xbox and so miss out. I'm not saying I don't get why Microsoft would do it, just that I don't think platform holders buying up large portfolios of existing franchises is good for gamers in general.

Re: Phil Spencer Explains Why Xbox Originally Decided To Compete Against PlayStation

@Kobeandodom Oh come on, Skyrim is available to PC, Xbox, PS and Nintendo gamers. You can't honestly tell me that ES6 moving to just Xbox, PC and Xbox's cloud gaming platform is a win for gamers in general. I'm not entirely sure it's even a win for purely Xbox gamers as they would have got the game anyway. It may be a win for Microsoft as a business, but I wouldn't call it a direct win for gamers of any kind and definitely not gamers in general.

Re: Phil Spencer Explains Why Xbox Originally Decided To Compete Against PlayStation

@MaxC I take your point, but the flip side of being bought up by a bigger company is often more creative meddling from the new owner and we'll have to see some more Double Fine games before we can judge if the purchase has brought about better games. I still think that the game player in general doesn't benefit from Microsoft and Sony buying up devs and making their releases exclusive.

Re: Five More Games Are Joining Xbox Game Pass Today (Jan 28)

BionicDodo

@themightyant Yeah, I use howlongtobeat as well. My '120+ hours' was basically the main story times for each game added up. I figure if I do ever get through all of them then some are going to be simple play through and with others - probably the ones I enjoy most - I'll spend more time on side stuff and mini games. Not sure I'll ever have time to give Yakuza 5 more than a main story run through!
