Original story: 'Master Chief' has been trending on social media platforms like Twitter recently, and while you might think it's something to do with the recent multiplayer technical preview for Halo Infinite, the majority of fan messages we've seen appear to actually be about Nintendo's game, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
Nintendo's all-star brawler reveals its final DLC fighter today, and many Xbox and Halo fans are still hopeful it will be the system's OG mascot, Master Chief - who this year celebrates his 20th anniversary. While this is still arguably a long shot, depending on who you talk to, Microsoft technically has quite a lot of representatives in the game already.
There's Rare's Banjo-Kazooie, Steve & Alex from Minecraft and even DLC outfits based on Bethesda's IP, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and the Fallout series.

Honestly think master chief is the last character for smash, the main reason Microsoft allowed Ori to be on switch and why Phil included a Nintendo switch console in the background of his videos is this.

I just can't accept it not being Crash Bandicoot. It doesn't feel right for him not to be there.
Sakurai said some people may not know the character, so I'm guessing it's not chief.
@UltimateOtaku91 the original Banjo Kazooie is coming to Nintendo Switch Online library of N64 games. I think that's the reason why Phil had a Switch on his shelf and the stuff MS and Nintendo were discussing, that we learnt about from the Epic Games trial.
@RavenWolfe81 he wrote that in Japanese. Master Chief is probably not very well known in Japan.
That said, I don't think it will be 117. My guess is Waluigi. Fans are asking for him for a long time and he's not that well known, since he doesn't have his own game.
Ah man, there goes my prediction that it would not only be Master Chief, but that the Halo Master Chief Collection would drop on the Switch eShop straight after the presentation!

@UltimateOtaku91 And SMB 3D All Stars contained 3 games, that were discontinued just before the 4th month of the year, in month 3. The proof is all around us, people, open your eyes!
I actually really like the Sora pick. I know he’s another sword fighter but I’m curious to see what his B moved are. Actually I would rather they keep Sora, get rid of a couple fire emblem characters, and get a couple more, including master chief! (See I pulled it back to Xbox lol)
