Despite chip shortages and people still struggling to pick up a next-gen console amongst scalpers, it's been said that the Xbox Series X and Series S are Microsoft's "fastest selling consoles ever".
The claim comes from Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, who made the comment during the company's recent earnings call (transcribed by The Verge). Nadella also reiterated that Xbox is "all in on games", something he and Xbox boss Phil Spencer also stated earlier this year.
“We're all in on games. The Xbox Series S and X are our fastest selling consoles ever, with more consoles sold life-to-date than any previous generation.”
Xbox hardware has seen a revenue increase of 172% in the past quarter, according to a recently published Q4 fiscal results report. This is said to have helped gaming revenue raise $357 million (11%).
Over the past few months we've seen the Xbox Series X and Series S becoming best-selling consoles in certain territories. Back in March, the Xbox Series S was reportedly the best-selling console in India, while the year kicked off with the UK boasting impressive results for both systems in January.
While there's no end in sight when it comes to chip shortages and manufacturing woes, it's clear the demand is still there to pick up one of Xbox's next-gen systems. With such a huge slate of titles on the way, including Psychonauts 2 and Halo Infinite, there's no doubt the company will continue to yield huge profits.

Be good when we finally get to play some of these games… a few have been a long time coming…. I’d still like more titles from all the studios they’ve bought…. They have a load of IPs to draw from now - they need to get cracking and spoil us
I’ve really been enjoying my Xbox lately, not because of big AAA titles but smaller games like Deaths Door and I’m looking forward to The Ascent very soon. My Xbox has become the place to play AA and indie titles, Microsoft is doing a phenomenal job at taking smaller projects and giving them a place to shine and I really appreciate it. Gamepass only adds to that, the value is great.
I feel I’m getting more value and use out of the Xbox compared to the other system. Hopefully the success continues
@The_New_Butler I absolutely feel the same way. I’m always on the other site and see them defending said company. I find it insane. MS ain’t perfect, no huge company is, but they’re definitely without a doubt, delivering value right now compared to their rivals. Enjoy it while it lasts right!
@The_New_Butler Completely agree. Don't get me wrong, there is plenty i like on other platforms but Microsoft is the only company offering value. And with some great games starting to drop it's a good time to own a Xbox.
While you can't just walk into a shop and get one, there really is no need to buy from a scalper in the UK. I signed up for Stock Informer around the start of the year and have had the opportunity to buy both the Series X and PS5 from major retailers semi regularly ever since.
I like both the next gen consoles and Microsoft look to be finishing the year strongly on the games front. Good luck to Microsoft, Sony and nintendo
I have been playing on Nintendo all my life and on Sony last generation and Xbox is absolutely the best hardware, controller and value (only on Xbox since Xbox One).
Go Xbox go!!! Puro Fuego!
See they do care about console sales and are letting us know it is the fastest selling Xbox console, like I have always said on here.
Because selling more consoles, sells more game pass and other items and gives far greater name awareness in the gaming market.
Well done Microsoft, now you just need to get the AAA games out and catch the competition.
This is all great for us as competition has put the games market in the healthy position it is in today.
@The_New_Butler
Currently Xbox is the king of customer focus by a long way. May they keep the good work up and also get the other two companies to wake up a bit and care about their customers.
That's quite impressive considering all those people who were adamant that a 'lack' of next gen 'exclusives' for Xbox, and the fact all games will be on PC too would seriously impact on the sales of Console Hardware. Delaying Halo: Infinite too was 'supposedly' another 'nail in the coffin' for MS. Who would want a 'Series Console' when they can play the same games on XB1 or PC?
Just shows that people have enough 'reason' with the numerous games updated to improve Performance and/or Visual quality, the feature set and of course, the MASSIVE potential of Xbox owned Studio's to deliver great gaming experiences. The 'first' first party Xbox new generation game has finally Launched (Flight Sim) and the future looks very strong for MS...
